Raising Chao was my life at 7 years old. This is an all time game for me. The Chao progression with the animals for racing and flying was so great and I loved how you could evolve them to unlock the hell/heaven rooms
Also grinding in order to make your chao similar to sonic or whatever you are trying to obtain as i made one similar to sonic good times. I was lead to believe chao were cannon because of the game but i never once saw them afterwards
My favorite thing about this game was how the audio was synced to the japanese dub so the english dub sometimes has the characters talking over each other which is the funniest to me and gives this game so much unintentional charm
And inexplicably, the Japanese staff demanded that the English dub keep faithful to the Japanese exclamations despite the Americans explaining that this made no sense. Which is why we have things like Sonic shouting "teriyaaa" and Eggman constantly exclaiming "yoush."
I always felt like the characters sometimes interrupting eachother feels a lot more realistic because if a villain gave out a long winded monologue I wouldn't be very cordial in my asking him to stop
Strange to hear Eggman saying his actual ingame lines instead of him talking about how he misses his wife, trying to call the police, and vomiting on his defeat
One thing I love about SA2, is Sonics sense of speed even in cutscenes. He has zero patience or tolerance to the point where he'd rather jump out of a plane than wait for it to land and gets frustrated easily due to impatience. Theres no long drawn out scenes of dialogue with uneccesary quips.

Shadows VA was top notch and I love the fact that they talked over each other, much like how a real argument would go. On top of that I love how serious Sonic is in this game. Theres no silly quip to break up the tension or slap stick moment. He just rolls in genuinely (and reasonably) mad, being framed for crimes he didn't commit. In the modern games he'd casually walk up, call him darky mc-ego pants, start stretching mid sentence, while Shadow stands in the corner being brooding and edgy making everyone cringe.
I spent over a thousand hours on this game as a kid. Mostly in the Chao garden, or just raising Chaos in general. I could still dump a bunch of time into this damn garden if I didn't have a hundred other games to play all the time. But this was still one of my favorites ever 😭❤️ They could easily remake this game, give it a better multiplayer system, and expand the Chao garden a bit, and it'd be incredible. The Soundtrack is so fucking perfect. 12/10

Jesus, the fucking nostalgia this instills in me…I spent hour upon hour trying to make the perfect Chao, as well as getting all the medals in the game. Despite its flaws, this one’s one of my all-time favorites.
I love how Charlie is just completely wrapped up in the insane universe of Sonic the Hedgehog. So many people try to take it as seriously as possible, poking at Sonic stories when they aren't realistic. As a Sonic fan, I do like when Sonic takes itself seriously, but it's great to see someone just accepting Sonic for who he is and just enjoying himself playing it.
I’ll always prefer a lighthearted Sonic story to a serious one. There’s only so much drama you can add into a game starring a mutant, way-past-cool blue hedgehog before it stops being what it is: a cartoon. Over-seriousness was one of the many, MANY things that went wrong with _Shadow the Hedgehog_ and especially _Sonic 06._

I’m playing it now, I like the game but nah, it’s frustrating in a lot of areas and 2/3 of the game sucks (knuckles and tails). I played adventure 1 last year and I like that better. My favorite is probably generations or mania

Another thing that frustrates me is that all the ports crippled many of the lighting effects. I remember owning the game for Dreamcast, playing SA2:B for Gamecube at a friend's house, and feeling that something was off. Seeing the Speeps Highway comparison video really confirmed it to me, although the lighting bugs in SA2 ports weren't anywhere near as terrible as what happened to ports of SA1. The SA2 ports were a little disappointing in the graphics department, but the SA1 ports were downright ugly. I'd say the extra features make up for it though, and SADX at least has a beautiful Dreamcast lighting restoration mod.

For anyone else out there having issues with controller, there is controller support, but you have to select your input device in the launcher. For some ungodly reason it's set to keyboard by default, even if you have a controller connected on launch.
I played city escape all of the time on my friends game cube, its in my top 5 favorite games. I could barely remember SA2 but the city escape song was crystal clear. Song is such a banger

This game had everything. Great gameplay, memorable story, the cast we know and love, and a kickass soundtrack. Nothing would ever reach its level since time has shown us.

I've replayed the story modes several times thoughout my life and I always loath playing Rouge's security vault level because of that _damn_ 5 minute time limit. I've raged quit more than once after failing it.

@@lks19 because in default sonic adventure 2 you have to find each emerald ONE AT A TIME because the Rader only lets you find only one. so it gets really tedious when you aren't allowed to find whatever emerald you find nearest to you
@@Looker0 the day stages have some of the best levels in Sonic history and the Werehog was fun and a nice change of pace from the traditional regular Sonic gameplay. Exploring the levels was also a blast and I enjoyed the combat a lot. Not to mention the story was fantastic. Cry me a river
I still remember the good old times. Adventures, Heroes, Unleashed, Black Knight, the one from 2008, free riders. Thing's just haven't been the same since they stopped doing games like these
@@Looker0 Hey, to each their own. I've played only Unleashed out of those titles, but even then, I thought it was cool. Mainly because I've always been a fan of werewolves, and Sonic's werehog form was like a hack and slash when combat came around.
I started replaying this game a few weeks ago, it is still by far my favorite in the Sonic franchise. I'm still spending so much time just in the chao garden having fun raising them! I do see how some people might not care for the game and it's controls or buggy camera movements but this game will always hold a special place in my heart!
Really hope you keep this series up, I'd really like to see you get better & just blast through the levels. Also, if you're having trouble connecting the controller and are playing on steam, you can change the controller type on the first menu before the game starts up. Hope that helps.
This is a sensory overload of nostalgia. I haven't played this game for well over 10 years, but every single song and sound is familiar. It's almost comforting.

The bank looking stage with the timer and the space ark stage with Rouge are still pains in the god damn ass, even 'till this day. I remember spending an hour or two on those stages because of how confusing the layouts were. Throw in Knuckles and that Goldmine stage as well.
I felt so accomplished getting all A rank on all stages, getting every costumes for each character in battle mode, my chaotic chao kicking ever others chao’s asses…indeed best sonic game to date.
sega is known fo rmistreating workers, so a lot of the developers who worked on sa1 and sa2 left the company. you'd think a triple a studio that has been around for 3 decades could have a lot of experience under their belt, but no, workers come and go. this was the reason sonic 06 flopped along with many more games

I spent literally too much time learning all of the mechanics in the chao garden. Literally all of the different aesthetics, colors, happiness values, stat letter increases, whole nine yards. It is easily the most useless information that I am happy I acquired.
I played this game many of times, got all S ranks on every mission except the shadow rail mission...but I never notice Big in jail...Froggy probably finally put a restraining order on him for constantly following him and putting hooks through his mouth
A small detail I notice now compared to when I was a kid is during the first cutscene the first line of dialogue says "Sigma Alpha 2 heading due south over the city". Sigma Alpha are used as a form of Military alphabet, meaning he's saying S A 2. A.K.A: Sonic Adventure 2.

Honestly this is my favorite game ever as a kid me and my brother would play like every day with my dad racing and playing in the chow garden we always thought there was some like extra secrets we just couldn’t find with the chows and the music was amazing just brings back the beast memories for me

this game was one of those that brought your whole friend group together. the memories on memories right now. insane
The graphics are pretty good considering how old it is. Dreamcast should’ve survived and we’re all fools for not giving it a chance.
Another thing that frustrates me is that all the ports crippled many of the lighting effects. I remember owning the game for Dreamcast, playing SA2:B for Gamecube at a friend's house, and feeling that something was off. Seeing the Speeps Highway comparison video really confirmed it to me, although the lighting bugs in SA2 ports weren't anywhere near as terrible as what happened to ports of SA1. The SA2 ports were a little disappointing in the graphics department, but the SA1 ports were downright ugly. I'd say the extra features make up for it though, and SADX at least has a beautiful Dreamcast lighting restoration mod.

This is the PC release, which they messed up the colors, effects and lightning, so it somehow looks even better in the Dreamcast
For anyone else out there having issues with controller, there is controller support, but you have to select your input device in the launcher. For some ungodly reason it's set to keyboard by default, even if you have a controller connected on launch.
Usually when there's something Charlie can't figure out, it has an easy fix.

Yep, same. All of the later hunting stages are a pain. The music makes it a little more bearable. Knuckle's space stage (Meteor Herd, iirc) tune is especially amazing.

@@lks19 because in default sonic adventure 2 you have to find each emerald ONE AT A TIME because the Rader only lets you find only one. so it gets really tedious when you aren't allowed to find whatever emerald you find nearest to you

@@Looker0 the day stages have some of the best levels in Sonic history and the Werehog was fun and a nice change of pace from the traditional regular Sonic gameplay. Exploring the levels was also a blast and I enjoyed the combat a lot. Not to mention the story was fantastic.

I recently stumbled upon the Real-Time Fandub of this, then got hooked on City Escape. Easily one of the best game theme songs I've heard.
I started replaying this game a few weeks ago, it is still by far my favorite in the Sonic franchise. I'm still spending so much time just in the chao garden having fun raising them!
I do see how some people might not care for the game and it's controls or buggy camera movements but this game will always hold a special place in my heart!

Really hope you keep this series up, I'd really like to see you get better & just blast through the levels. Also, if you're having trouble connecting the controller and are playing on steam, you can change the controller type on the first menu before the game starts up. Hope that helps.

The bank looking stage with the timer and the space ark stage with Rouge are still pains in the god damn ass, even 'till this day. I remember spending an hour or two on those stages because of how confusing the layouts were. Throw in Knuckles and that Goldmine stage as well.
I felt so accomplished getting all A rank on all stages, getting every costumes for each character in battle mode, my chaotic chao kicking ever others chao’s asses…indeed best sonic game to date.

sega is known fo rmistreating workers, so a lot of the developers who worked on sa1 and sa2 left the company. you'd think a triple a studio that has been around for 3 decades could have a lot of experience under their belt, but no, workers come and go. this was the reason sonic 06 flopped along with many more games

I spent literally too much time learning all of the mechanics in the chao garden.
Literally all of the different aesthetics, colors, happiness values, stat letter increases, whole nine yards.
It is easily the most useless information that I am happy I acquired.
I played this game many of times, got all S ranks on every mission except the shadow rail mission...but I never notice Big in jail...Froggy probably finally put a restraining order on him for constantly following him and putting hooks through his mouth

A small detail I notice now compared to when I was a kid is during the first cutscene the first line of dialogue says "Sigma Alpha 2 heading due south over the city". Sigma Alpha are used as a form of Military alphabet, meaning he's saying S A 2. A.K.A: Sonic Adventure 2.

I have been really really wanting to replay this game but I took my GameCube controllers apart to clean them and replace buttons like…. 2 years ago… and haven’t done anything else with them yet lmao.
