    Gorgeous, and along with Lindsay Wagoner and Linda Carter, paved the way for young girls... The show was pitched as a poor man's Mary Marvel, but it grew to be much more than that...

    • @angelbabycards3595
      @angelbabycards3595 3 роки тому

      Honestly, Michael - it wasn't. Here, if you actually take your mind back to that specific period (I'm 55 now), you will begin to recall all the hype about Egypt, King Tut, groups like Earth Wind and Fire, movies soon to release in just a few summers like The Wiz, etc., lol. " There was this near obsession with Egypt. Later, those same people who were so very excited, even postulated the notion of creating a Egyptian Pyramid style hotel in Las Vegas, and so for many years, we are able to travel to Las Vegas and stay at The Luxor, etc.. etc.. Television science fiction shows such as Battlestar Galactica clearly were preoccupied with Egyptian influences and overtones. Yup, it's all there. All you need to do is sit back, pay close attention tot he period, and within a few minutes, the Mighty Isis premise simply copied most of the elements of female superheroines from as early as the post Rosie the Riveter era, to the impetus of the feminist movement during the mid-sixties. Kinda makes sense when you think about it. .. Honestly, I think, - if they really wanted Mary Marvel, they would have just done it, the way they did with WonderGirl in the late 70's WonderWoman show. - Hope this helps, Michael - Peace! :) \\//

    • @dgold6891
      @dgold6891 3 роки тому +2

      @@angelbabycards3595 Actually, Michael's correct. Filmation, producers of "Shazam!," knew they wanted to create a spinoff for their successful Captain Marvel show, and they knew they wanted a female hero. So they asked DC Comics for the rights to the Mary Marvel character (sister of Billy Batson/ Capt. Marvel) but DC refused. So Filmation then decided to create their own superheroine out of whole cloth - and they came up with Isis. You're right too, in that Egyptology was a trend in the 1970s, so that likely was a factor in Filmation's designs for their original character. But Mary Marvel definitely was part of the origins of the production of "The Secrets of Isis."

    • @ronald3419
      @ronald3419 3 роки тому

      @@dgold6891 I had thought that Filmation was able to make their own character for less money than what the license would have cost. Also, Filmation avoided having to hire another actress to play Mary in human form, not to mention a female mentor and voices for female Elders.

But because of the cost involved in getting the okay to do that series, Filmation chose to produce the show we now know and love. I found it also remarkable what Joanna did after her days in Hollywood in the healthcare and marketing businesses respectfully. RIP to a wonderful woman and the memories she left us.

    So heartbroken to hear of her passing. NEVER missed an episode of Isis.A few decades ago I was working at a local animal hospital and a beautiful brunette walked in and I asked the doctor if I could check her in because I had a question. When she walked I said "This is probably a random question but were you ISIS back in the 70's?" To which she smiled and said "Wow you have a memory". About a week later at the high school my mother worked at they had a career day and this pretty brunette came in to speak to the kids and my mom walked up to her and asked the same question and got the same answer and got me an autograph on her business card.

    Dang! That Sucks!
    I wasn't a big fan of "Isis", but man my little preteen heart would beat pretty fast for Joanna....
    After having (unfortunately) several people I've know in Hospice Care, it's really awesome that she spent some time doing service there. It's not an easy job, but SO incredibly important and meaningful. Not only for the dying, but for the loved ones of the dying. To see someone you love made comfortable and peaceful in their last days and hours is so incredibly wonderful. And you can take those last moments to tell them how much you love them...
    Thanks Dave.
    Also, James Michael Tyler died today... He was "Gunther" on Friends. I hope he had a peaceful flight to the stars as well....

    Oh no no no nooooo. Why? Such a truly beautiful lady. Curtailed her career as an actress, to become a nurse, saving lives, and later on, as a business entrepreneur. A great role model for youngsters, back then and even today. Very sad event. May she rest in eternal peace. GOD bless her soul.

    Lovely tribute, Dave and thanks for this. I was a fan of Isis. Joanna was such a beauty. As time marches on, we are losing more and more of our childhood. Zephyr winds that blow on high, lift her now so she can fly...RIP, Joanna.

    I am speechless. When your thumbnail came up, i was immediately shaken down to my soul, and i cried as if someone had just lost a dear loved one. And i hesitated clicking on your video-but i knew i must for closure. My God..i cannot believe this. Such a classy and beautiful lady like Joanna. This ruins the rest of my year. My childhood memories of her and of Isis will always be cherished, now even more so. I am deeply, deeply saddened-this hit me worse than Tanya Roberts and Tawny Kitaen and all those who i have held dear all combined. She was the bastion of saturday morning and the goddess of my dreams. May she go to where the zephyr winds blow on high and be lifted up so she can fly. My heart goes out to her family and her precious fans and to you Dave-Rest In Peace my beloved Joanna.
