I'm more interested in this Sci-Fi lore than Star Wars not gonna lie. To talk about factions fighting over a planet for their own political ideals just sounds way better than some mystic magic that turns people into demons (The Dark Side).
Personally? I think the themes for each empire perfectly define who and what they are. The VS's techno-style music portrays a sense of looking forwards, with new ideas and establishments, but forget the past and traditional values. The NC's theme, with its guitars and other similar instruments denotes brash bravado and individuality, but brings with it a sense of...how do you put it...blindness? A refusal to see one's own flaws? I guess that's it. The TR's vast orchestral theme, however, provides a sense of unity, strength, and discipline. Any TR player knows the feeling of struggling over a capture point when combat music kicks in. The music really sets the mood for TR players to fight harder,unlike the other 2 faction OSTs
If we start losing and I hear this song I know we're fucked because time is running out. If you hear that song then you have about 30 seconds to either "impress the brass" or "Fail the republic"
Meme Lord TR combat music always tends to give that "Hold your ground!" type of feeling. The same type you feel when you are overpopped 10-1 and defending a lone CP while hordes of NCs come rushing in with Jerkhammers. The feeling of "Better to die here defending the point than giving it to the enemy".

Actually, some of the losing soundtracks are exactly that. They force soldiers out foom spawn rooms to make the last chance, no matter what. Some of the tracks are more fitting on situations when you are running towards NC outpost liberators flying over your head and prowlers going around you.

Look, while being a self proclaimed "Special Operative" in the NC, I love all three of the factions music. The TR theme makes me feel like the whole planet will explode if I fail the mission at hand. The NC theme makes me feel like the biggest badass Auraxis has ever seen. Lastly, the VS theme makes me feel like a super secret agent on a super secret mission for super secret stuff. It's all awesome. While I'll always wear the blue and yellow, the music from every faction is fantastic.

Every victory I am part of for the TR fills me with pride. ...but the bodies I must climb over...every NC freedom fighter...each VS scientist...every dead enemy fills me with nothing but regret. For though they are our bitter enemies, I know that these men and women could have - SHOULD have - been my comrades.
Cadetdude True to an extent. But if I were the TR, I wouldn't look at the VS and NC as separate entities from me, but see the war more as a civil one. Brother vs. brother. Just going to put this out there. TR music is epic and awe inspiring. NC music Is the tough guy rock that makes you feel like a one-man army. VS music makes me think of technology and cyberpunk. I personally prefer the TR soundtrack, but that's just me.

I used to be NC, until i found out that I was fighting for pirates and capitalist corporations who lured me with freedom. In the end I understood that freedom lies in a strong government which protects it's people with law and equality. When you are NC, you are enslaved by your own greed and thirst for money. Really? FOr me its absolutely The Theme of The Last Stand. That music is what brings me feel of the rush from spawn room at last moments to turn the flow of the battle, defend the base and make a glorious counterattack.
Yeah.. Really, atleast for me only TR has music that actually makes you really feel the phrase of faction. Some rock&roll isn't making me want to fight for freedom. Some techno isn't gonna make me think is wise to borrow technology that may not be suitable for enviroment instead of researching your own.
It's not easy creating music to create the atmosphere of "fighting for freedom" or "borrow technology" etc - It was most easily done for the TR to emphasise loyalty, patriotism and nationalism, but not so for other factions. If you were in charge of creating the music, what music would you compose for Vanu and and NC to emphasize their respective ideologies?
Vanu needs more action to their music. I'm a huge fan of the genre of music they use and it fails represent action. A small addition of dubstep during the final moments of a capture point would be a welcome addition. The NC are a different beast altogether. Their bluegrass/heavy rock is pretty boring and they need a new genre altogether.
Overall, I think the game needs more music. Also while TR really has some great clips, "Terran Republic" from latin would translate to "Republic of the Universe", then why does the orchestra have such a small amount of people? Of course there is financial reasons etc. but if (and when) music gets reworked, I would really appreciate getting much more of the feel of something gigantic. NC&VS music is just, well boring... NC faction selection theme has some brilliant tunes, but that's about it.
Vanu music sounds like what you'd get if you gave synthesizers to a bunch of cultists strung out on eXtacy. NC music is the twangy anthem of the ignoramus and the anarchist. Only the grand orchestra of the Terran Republic speaks of stability and might.
Ok, I have no problem with the music. The music is cool on all side (not sure about vanu). Its the ideals i dont agree with (mostly vanu). NC i can understand.
EndsBeginning You are wrong. TR is a socialist empire on earth which is only there to serve the people, this is no illusion. People always had the choice to downvote the republic, what they never did, because the republic is a good thing. On the discovery mission to Auraxis however, insurgents (which later become NC) attacked the TR fleet, killed many people. The TR leaders of this mission were mostly military, so they used their military might to prevent the rebels from taking over, which led to restrictions for all and that fuled the war later on. NC is rooting from terrorists, Auraxis-TR (oppressive TR) is rooting from Earth-TR (good TR).
The VS don't use bullets, they shoot plasma out of their weapons while the NC use railgun technology, which means they don't use gunpowder, rendering the casing of the bullet obsolete. The TR are the only ones who stick to their roots with bullets and bullet casings.
As a French Horn player and EU Terran Republic soldier, (I'm not great at either, probably a better horn player), I would love to play this with a full orchestra one day... :) We have the most heroic music, let's face it. (salutes)
3:25 Every time this song comes on while capturing an area, i'm usually in the thick of the fighting, while in a dead sprint. It always help push me to fight better. XD
Eventhough i dont play TR much, i do really like the epic feel of their soundtrack. The travel themes really remind me of the nostalgic days of world of warcraft.
I agree, this music would be more for in the middle of huge battles where almost everything is at risk. The NC music is short, quick and to the point. Though both sound tracks let you know that you need to keep fighting to capture, or you need to step up your game in risk of loosing what your striving to defend.
I feel like Jeff was alot better at orchestral music when he made this soundtrack. The quality of the TR sounds so much higher than the NC and VS. It actually makes the game feel serious.
In German, while I was playing VS...we called the Terrans "Pumuckls" (redheaded character from a childrens TV show) and the NCs Smurfs. Apparently, the enemy called us eggheads. Fair 'nuff.
Yes it is, most of the server names come from characters in the lore, Matterson was a leader of the NC in the original expedition to Auraxis, Miller was a council member of the TR(the highest authority in the TR apart from the presidents) that had joined the mission but others are just names of places in Planetside or related to the planetside universe in another way.
lmfao AOD is pretty much the shittiest outfit on Matherson. They would be better off as a server if that shit tier outfit disbanded so people would get funnelled into useful/tactical groups.

The base got hammered real hard by scythes, Vanu converged on the place with a dozen people plus change. Two riders came in on quads. I sniped both of them. One of the TR infils hacked the weapon term and suddenly nearly TR troop came out in a flak MAX. I tagged about a dozen VS soldiers before they even got near the base. About 15 minutes later, it was theirs. They walked up the road to greet me, I stuck with them for a bit, they thanked me, and I left before other TR showed up. It was cool.
The other night, Vanu had Esamir completely captured. I was a bored, lone little Infiltrator, sneaking around in Vanu territory. I saw a TR team coming out of their base bravely in a Sunderer, going for the shipping depot. I looked for a name of someone in their team and asked them if they needed help via /tell, explained that Vanu had NC spawnlocked too and any hurt on Vanu was good for both sides. They agreed to not fire at me, and I provided sniper cover as they captured the base.

When I first got the beta, I went for Terran as I liked them the most, their morals for fighting and such. When the game was publicly released I went Vanu because my best friend was playing as them. However, after all I've been through, I still think Terran music is best.
Tr shows true strength. We have a high rate of fire which makes it harder to fight at ranges longer than closE range. Nc does more damage so they're more effective and vanu has no bullet drop so its easier to aim. Basicaly if your good at tr, then your pretty badass and show true skill.
Than 3 months ago i decided to give another try and started playing as NC. I have to say i was horrible at begining and i always felt that no matter the weapon i used i couldnt hit almost anything, than after some time and spending time at VR training realised where the error mostly was. It wasnt me as much as the naked weapons i used. With so much recoil i couldnt hit strait, and no matter all the attachments i, you, anyone could missfire at critical situation.
nc weapons are much more difficult to use than tr or vs, but once you understand how to use them you can hit very hard.. this is the reason why the gauss saw has been named "the Godsaw" ;) try to use them in very short bursts not to lose the target.. something like using the machinegun as a battle rifle..

I used to be NC, until i found out that I was fighting for pirates and capitalist corporations who lured me with freedom. In the end I understood that freedom lies in a strong government which protects it's people with law and equality. When you are NC, you are enslaved by your own greed and thirst for money. TR might not be perfect, but it sounds like the best choice in PS2. Long live the Republic!

An Authoritarian government; one in which political power is concentrated in a leader, (or leaders,) typically unelected by the people, who possess limitless political power. But, the Terran Republic beleive that no-one is above the law, and will punish those who disobey it, even their own leaders. This is all done to ensure complete peace, with the best interest of the people.
Please keep in mind that this is all speculation, as the PlanetSide Lore, only states that we are a "Republic".

NC is my home but I do enjoy playing TR. The announcer and music just make you feel like a complete badass!
Same here. I play mainly NC. But the patriotic, orchestra music and commander's voice sounds makes you feel epic.
Yeah.. Really, atleast for me only TR has music that actually makes you really feel the phrase of faction. Some rock&roll isn't making me want to fight for freedom. Some techno isn't gonna make me think is wise to borrow technology that may not be suitable for enviroment instead of researching your own.
It's not easy creating music to create the atmosphere of "fighting for freedom" or "borrow technology" etc - It was most easily done for the TR to emphasise loyalty, patriotism and nationalism, but not so for other factions.
If you were in charge of creating the music, what music would you compose for Vanu and and NC to emphasize their respective ideologies?
Vanu needs more action to their music. I'm a huge fan of the genre of music they use and it fails represent action. A small addition of dubstep during the final moments of a capture point would be a welcome addition. The NC are a different beast altogether. Their bluegrass/heavy rock is pretty boring and they need a new genre altogether.
Overall, I think the game needs more music. Also while TR really has some great clips, "Terran Republic" from latin would translate to "Republic of the Universe", then why does the orchestra have such a small amount of people? Of course there is financial reasons etc. but if (and when) music gets reworked, I would really appreciate getting much more of the feel of something gigantic. NC&VS music is just, well boring... NC faction selection theme has some brilliant tunes, but that's about it.
Vanu music sounds like what you'd get if you gave synthesizers to a bunch of cultists strung out on eXtacy. NC music is the twangy anthem of the ignoramus and the anarchist. Only the grand orchestra of the Terran Republic speaks of stability and might.
Ok, I have no problem with the music. The music is cool on all side (not sure about vanu). Its the ideals i dont agree with (mostly vanu). NC i can understand.

EndsBeginning You are wrong. TR is a socialist empire on earth which is only there to serve the people, this is no illusion. People always had the choice to downvote the republic, what they never did, because the republic is a good thing. On the discovery mission to Auraxis however, insurgents (which later become NC) attacked the TR fleet, killed many people. The TR leaders of this mission were mostly military, so they used their military might to prevent the rebels from taking over, which led to restrictions for all and that fuled the war later on. NC is rooting from terrorists, Auraxis-TR (oppressive TR) is rooting from Earth-TR (good TR).
Did anybody else realize that TR is the only faction to have bullet casings coming out of their guns? I know why, but did anybody else realize?
The VS don't use bullets, they shoot plasma out of their weapons while the NC use railgun technology, which means they don't use gunpowder, rendering the casing of the bullet obsolete. The TR are the only ones who stick to their roots with bullets and bullet casings.

Every time this song comes on while capturing an area, i'm usually in the thick of the fighting, while in a dead sprint. It always help push me to fight better. XD
The third combat theme and deployment theme both scream "Medal Of Honor" and i love it so much.
To be fair, when you have two organized factions of separatists tearing up your home planet, martial law is standard protocol.
Eventhough i dont play TR much, i do really like the epic feel of their soundtrack. The travel themes really remind me of the nostalgic days of world of warcraft.

I agree, this music would be more for in the middle of huge battles where almost everything is at risk. The NC music is short, quick and to the point. Though both sound tracks let you know that you need to keep fighting to capture, or you need to step up your game in risk of loosing what your striving to defend.
I am a dedicated NC player but I gotta say you guys got some pretty good epic orchestrals.

I feel like Jeff was alot better at orchestral music when he made this soundtrack. The quality of the TR sounds so much higher than the NC and VS. It actually makes the game feel serious.

Combat theme 2 is giving the adrenaline for the victory while it starts at 20 seconds before we cap or defend.

Yes it is, most of the server names come from characters in the lore, Matterson was a leader of the NC in the original expedition to Auraxis, Miller was a council member of the TR(the highest authority in the TR apart from the presidents) that had joined the mission but others are just names of places in Planetside or related to the planetside universe in another way.

control over the continents have been shifting constantly between all three factions. its kind of interesting to watch
The base got hammered real hard by scythes, Vanu converged on the place with a dozen people plus change. Two riders came in on quads. I sniped both of them. One of the TR infils hacked the weapon term and suddenly nearly TR troop came out in a flak MAX.
I tagged about a dozen VS soldiers before they even got near the base. About 15 minutes later, it was theirs. They walked up the road to greet me, I stuck with them for a bit, they thanked me, and I left before other TR showed up.
It was cool.
The other night, Vanu had Esamir completely captured. I was a bored, lone little Infiltrator, sneaking around in Vanu territory. I saw a TR team coming out of their base bravely in a Sunderer, going for the shipping depot.
I looked for a name of someone in their team and asked them if they needed help via /tell, explained that Vanu had NC spawnlocked too and any hurt on Vanu was good for both sides. They agreed to not fire at me, and I provided sniper cover as they captured the base.

When I first got the beta, I went for Terran as I liked them the most, their morals for fighting and such. When the game was publicly released I went Vanu because my best friend was playing as them. However, after all I've been through, I still think Terran music is best.

This is one of the things that decides who you play.
We are soldiers. We are heroes. It does not take a hero to lead men into battle. But to be one of those men.
Tr shows true strength. We have a high rate of fire which makes it harder to fight at ranges longer than closE range. Nc does more damage so they're more effective and vanu has no bullet drop so its easier to aim. Basicaly if your good at tr, then your pretty badass and show true skill.

im glad someone who knows how good Planetside 2 is has good taste and plays Terran (and what i mean by that i mean your a man)
Than 3 months ago i decided to give another try and started playing as NC. I have to say i was horrible at begining and i always felt that no matter the weapon i used i couldnt hit almost anything, than after some time and spending time at VR training realised where the error mostly was. It wasnt me as much as the naked weapons i used. With so much recoil i couldnt hit strait, and no matter all the attachments i, you, anyone could missfire at critical situation.
nc weapons are much more difficult to use than tr or vs, but once you understand how to use them you can hit very hard.. this is the reason why the gauss saw has been named "the Godsaw" ;) try to use them in very short bursts not to lose the target.. something like using the machinegun as a battle rifle..
