Chris I’m with you....Majorette is a hidden treasure trove of classic Euro. I love everything about this, especially the car itself. The instrument panel was well done! -David
My dad fell in love with the Renault 5 turbo, after hiring one on a holiday in Spain, in the early 1980's, which, according to my mum, made him drive like 'A bloody maniac.' He wanted to buy one when they got back, but mum put her foot down, sadly. He then got the biggest Cortina he could find (he hated Sierras, for some reason), and then, in 1988, swapped that for a big Audi. Which he drove like a bloody maniac. Hurrah!
Great resto !!!! I remember my father, who had a local Renault dealership, once had a Turbo 5 in his showroom. As a little boy I spent hours behind the steering wheel pretending I was driving it...😉
Very nice! Amazingly, we had the 5 here in the US for a few years in the late '70s and early '80s, when American Motors imported them and sold them as, I kid you not, "Le Car". Of course, we only got the _boring_ models, including a hilariously named "Sport" version that had--brace yourself--51 horsepower. It was a bleak, bleak time for cars in the United States. :)
Haha thats a stereotype right there LOL! Mind you I had a 1.6 Sierra that was 2 or 3 times the size of that little Renault and that had 65bhp!! You guys more than make up for it in throbbing V8's and mostly RWD machines 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Thank you very much Sean I really appreciate that and glad I could offer the hand into the hobby. Hope you get the same enjoyment I do out of it. All the best :)

Thanks Rob..... they're little diamonds I think, some quirky Euro stuff from the era that I hated when they were on the road but kind of like now :) All the best buddy
Excellent. I never liked the Renault 5 but I love your videos. Will watch at the weekend. As a dedicated F1 fan since Ricardo P was at Williams, I have watched all of your videos so far this year and none of F1 races for the last 2 years!
Hi great choice, always loved the cartoon bodywork on the 5 maxi turbo's, wasn't expecting another video so soon after the Rover touring car, keep it up and thanks for the sneak peek at your other projects, Rich
Thank you for another great video. I often think if the car has a good body style without many blemishes, why hide it under lots of spoilers, side skirts and excessive decals. The balance here is absolutely perfect. I hope all is well in Stoke!
treasure trove indeed. Majorette made models of everyday cars which most have long since vanished off the streets... they also added many details from late 70's on, like gloves on the rear deck, a golf bag in the back of a Golf, suitcases, umbrellas, and so on. and the springed suspension proved to be nigh-indestructable; all I have seen were only corroded, not bent. you might be right about the baseplates being galvanized, must have ocurred around 79 or something. then again the zamac was special, I only encountered one baseplate with zinc sickness in all these years, which crumbled away under my fingers. even the old ones refuse to corrode... I still have the leftover body. XD wonderful work on another rallye car for your collection. interesting and rare colour scheme, too. the ref you showed seems to have used a Mk2 front parts to make room for the massive (takes deep breath) HEADLIGHTS. love the wheels, too (though the rear ones could have been twice as wide XD), and the stance. lowriders won't work on a rallye track... ;)
Same tastes Lothar for sure. I don't think there were many Majorettes i didn't like probably more down to the quirkyness of some of them. They did have litle wacky detaisl didn't they :) Many thanks 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Thanks for this surprise!!! I do love this kind of simple builds, but the result just speak to itself. Also I want to point out the decal of the rear quarter, is from an ad from 1989 for the Barcelona olympics, "Hechos para el 92" meaning "Ready (built) for 92" maybe predicting the next generation of the Renault 5 turbo... Anyway I've always been a huge fan of Majorettes lovely details and very good times spent with those bouncy suspensions. Nice build my friend!!!

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish Chris. I love the 1980's rally cars. I've got a Tamiya 1:24 R5 Turbo Rally I bought back then. Your R5 end result looks terrific in the red and black, and wow, that dash board. Yes, lower looked more realistic, but nothing wrong with how you left it. I love it! Cheers, Ady.
Thanks Ady..... Yes the Tamiya version, it was very special and detailed indeed, I think I still have an unbuilt one in the loft. I havn't built 1/24th for a long, long time 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍

Thank you and for the correction on the model..... I always thought the 'Maxi' referred to this mid-engine wide body beast, by the sounds of it, it was like an Evo 2 version of the original. All the best

Fantastic stuff as always, When I was a trainee mechanic many moons ago there was a guy that had a very modified R5 GT Turbo which he somehow managed to explode the engine on twice in a month, Good times, As an aside I always liked Majorette models for some unknown reason the one I remember most was a blue Citroen Acadiane, No idea where that ended up.
Thank you 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍 All us petrolheads know someone similar to the that guy..... it was usually me in our circle 😂🤣 No there was one guy worse than me actually, forever tinkering and breaking in equal measure LOL
Very nice! I like that you kept this one more simple. it gives me hope for my builds. :P Seriously though, it turned out brilliant. I've started to really like Majorette's stuff too. Even some of the old Yat Ming stuff has started to grab my eye since they did more obscure cars. Great video as always, Chris. Excited to see what's next.
A beautifully finished modelled. Great take as the blue car is the most common... fingers crossed for a shell sierra (yes australian raced sierras) haha
Thanks Jarrod.... I'm a big Dick Johnson fan, there maybe one but there are a couple of BTCC ones that I obsessed over in my youth that will come first. The Bathurst days were amazing!!! 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
@@SidewaysKing75 Can't wait!!! I am feeling an Eggenberger Texaco '87' Bathurst Sierra would be on the cards haha... Great to hear you are a Dick Johnson fan....such a legend
Hey wait a minute i did not know that today you are release new video but anyway great job SK75 on this Renault 5 Maxi Turbo it's definitely nice retro pocket rocket form the era of group b rally cars (just a little underdog that almost could keep up with legendary names like ford rs200,audi quatro, lancia 037 and many more) so yeah i could go on all day talking about them but for me i got to go so see you next video bye now. P.S. oh i almost forgot tell you that nissan was involved in rallying back in the 80s with nissan 240RS rally car but unfortunately there were not successful as they weren't ready for all wheel drive conquest that was coming to group b rally completion.
Fantastic job Chris, looks better than the "real" cars did. I never trusted the ordinary, production cars in corners. The suspension was weird and the car would lean at some alarming angles; never actually rolled one though. Did drive a Gordini a few times; quick car but that suspension could be scarey. 😁 The Majorette springs look far better. 😂
Wow the Gordini, i'd forgot about that one yes! A couple of friends had 5 Turbo's, one of which was the Raider editon, I remember them going quick 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Thank you.... I use this 2 pack finish from Zero Paints. Its epxensive but worth it and will alst a fair few cars at this scale.... www.hiroboy.com/Diamond_Finish_2_Pack_GLOSS_Clearcoat_System_2K_Urethane_220ml--product--10301.html 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Hi buddy, I don't know if you remember I asked if you could do a decal sheet Nissan headlamps, i came across your video again, so checked your site and boom they are there. Fantastic I will be ordering a few sets next Monday... me and my three year old had a routine after nursery we go to the shop and buy a new hotwheel, normally every day. Because of the kungflu we haven't bought any and it slipped my mind. He is having withdrawals I think 😝, and I must admit I enjoyed buying them with him too. And if you have another spare Peugeot 205 I'd buy one off you, I owned 4 of them at one point had a xs 1.6 gti and a 1.9 gti and because I loved them I had to have a convertible as well. I paid less than a grand for each one I am not rich but this was 10-15 years ago, they was being scrapped at an alarming rate.
Yes I do remember.... ill get round to doing more headlights again soon too. The 1.9GTi was a great car and arguably looked the best Hot Hatch in standard trim than all the rest of that era. Whilst I was an RS Turbo man a couple of pals had the GTi and they were great 👍
I'm just going to have to embrace the fact I annoy some people, this one holds the record now for a thumbs down 20 seconds after the upload was complete and by the time I had refreshed the screen 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
It looks spectacular! Nice restoration. I have the same car but I believe it's late 80s. Same suspension, different wheels, but mine is yellow, a #22, Elf and CIBIE sponsorships, and opening doors. Not sure if the hatchback opens made by Tomica
I love watching your videos so much that I decided to give diecast restoration a go myself. However, I've hit a snag, and that's to do with getting the primer to stick to the bare metal without chipping off. Granted, I'm not using the Tamiya fine primer that I think you use, I've used Vallejo gloss black primer, which is acrylic, and got a lovely finish using my cheapo airbrush. But while wrestling the spring-loaded doors back into place the black primer chipped and peeled off far too easily, suggesting I start again and find out how the experts (like your good self) do it! How are you finding the Tamiya for adhesion? Any issues at all with it peeling off if masking? I've also read about etching primer as being the 'correct' primer for bare metal and wondered if you'd had any experience with that? And do you use a degreaser like acetone (or similar) on the metal before priming? All in all it's not too frustrating as I love the learning process behind the art form that is diecast restoration. I'm locked and loaded on Amazon...my basket has both Tamiya fine primer and Autotek etching primer, but which one do I buy? No pressure, Mr Sideways, but any advice gratefully received. Keep up the great work because I could (and do, during self-isolation) watch your videos all day.
Glad that you've decided to give this a go, its a very rewarding hobby that will give hours of enjoyment. I use automotive primer from Halfords on all these diecast cars. The Tamiya surface primer is great for the plastics but I've never had any troubles whatsoever with the automotive sprays I use on these. Any further help please dont hesitate to ask. All the best
@@SidewaysKing75 Hey, thanks for the reply, I'm very grateful. Went with the etching primer in the end, but haven't used it yet as I've had The Bat Flu and still recovering. Have been told to look after my lungs and avoiding spraying stuff for a few weeks. Will always come back to your videos for tips.
Thank you..... Use either EPO-Putty or Milliput, they are both two parts, simply mix equal ammounts together then apply to the car, let it dry then cut and sand away to the desired shape.

I hope you can do the Lancia Delta S4
Thats on my radar for sure 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Woooow! Good job bro! 👍😀
Nicely done!
Many thanks 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Thank you very much, we definately have the same tastes for sure. 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
LOVE IT! And yes I was shouting.
Hehe... Many thanks 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Very cool, well done.
Many thanks 🚗🚙👍🏻
Looks great I used the corgi casting for my build :-)
Many thanks 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
First time watching one of your videos. I’m very impressed. Such a cool car 🚗. So cool 😎!!!
No hesitation to subscribe and click the bell.
Thank you very much for watching 🚙🚗😁👍🏻
Thanks as always Lilliana, glad you could watch and comment again its appreciated 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
@@SidewaysKing75 no problem my friend anyway have good day bye now.
Excellent as ever and what a fantastic collection! Perhaps a TR7 V8 at some point? Happy to send you a donor.
Many thanks James.... it very nearly was the TR7 this time actually so one is coming up fairly soon for sure.🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Another great little car finished fantastically, well done! Just wondering what clear coat you use on your customs?
Thank you.... I use this 2 pack finish from Zero Paints. Its epxensive but worth it and will alst a fair few cars at this scale.... www.hiroboy.com/Diamond_Finish_2_Pack_GLOSS_Clearcoat_System_2K_Urethane_220ml--product--10301.html 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Mind-blowing! Love this video! Is so c😎😎l!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👌👌👌👏👏👏🤯🤯🤯
Maravillosa restauración 🤩🤩👍🇬🇹
Many thanks 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Hi buddy,
I don't know if you remember I asked if you could do a decal sheet Nissan headlamps, i came across your video again, so checked your site and boom they are there.
Whilst I was an RS Turbo man a couple of pals had the GTi and they were great 👍
Gorgeous rally car!
you need to find an Audi Quattro! Nice work as always
Its on the list of 'to do's'
I have heard it both ways dee-cowl and deckel so say what ya like hell call em' transfers and really ruffle some feathers lol
Many thanks. I dodn't know Tomica made one so I will take a look at that 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
Nice tured out beautiful
Thank you 👍
Just a week apart? Amazing work, also wasn’t the SD1 red?
Shhhh I forgot about that one.... the one before it 🙈!
@@noodldoodl1970 oh man I hope you get better.... health and family first above all else so please get better.... cars can wait 🚗🚙👍🏻
Awesome car! I’m trying to get into doing body work on the cars, what do you use to do a wide body
Thank you..... Use either EPO-Putty or Milliput, they are both two parts, simply mix equal ammounts together then apply to the car, let it dry then cut and sand away to the desired shape.
Thanks 👍🏼
Great job as always with amazing detail, I have only seen the Renault 5 maxi turbo at Renault World Series (Silverstone) great cars.
Thanks Phil.... Theres always at least one at Race Retro every year doing the rounds.... gret to watch and listen too 🏎🚙🚕🚓🚗😁👍
@@SidewaysKing75 how's it going? Are your dioramas keeping you busy?
@@GENERALWA5TE all good thanks... yes and lots to come, I've learned the hard way now to keep things under wraps, teaser stuff on Instagram and Facebook have resulted in others making and launching so its all on the hush, hush now until I reveal.... oh and someone downloading this channel and uploading it to theirs and not even changing anything 🙈.... 🤣 You couldn't write it LOL
@@SidewaysKing75 seriously, that it crazy. Surely Google should have spotted that.
Can't wait to see what you have in the pipeline, I have you on FB but I don't have Instagram.
Really do think you should enter a few cars into 3Dbotmaker king of the mountain 👍
