  • This is the sixth instalment of the Q&A, to answer questions from students partaking in the beginners online couture beading courses and live workshops. I explore the fundamentals of tambour embroidery using tulle to demonstrate the basic chain stitch, starting and finishing knot and an overview of the key areas to consider why the thread is breaking or why it doesn't lift through the fabric. Thanks Michelle for this question, I hope this helps.

This is amazing, you are very good at explaining the correct way of doing this. I have tried learning in person by others and online tutorials, bbut this is the best by far. Thank you!

I just received some tambour hooks and had previously seen some videos about how to do this technique. I thought, how hard can it be? Turns out it's not easy or intuitive, even for fairly skilled sewists and embroiders! But thanks to your video I realized I was wrapping the thread around in a full circle instead of 1.5 circles. I think that will make a big difference in how it goes next time I try it. Thank you.

Can you recommend where to buy tambour needles? Amazon doesn't have the best quality ones.

I do realistic animal embroidery. Is there a chance to do long and short sticht instead of the chain stitch ?
