I'm a paramedic and working on my nursing. I just learned of Dr. Farmer's and PIH today. I'm saddened by the loss of the good doctor but also grateful to learn of PIH. It's my goal to find a way the benefit and contribute proportionately to PIH as I grow in knowledge and partake in the associated compensation. Today, as a student, I learn. Tomorrow I'll share what resources I have.

I came here from John Greens video, moved by the connection he felt. Previously, I hadn't heard of Paul Farmer, but now that I have seen this video I am starting to grieve along with John (in a much smaller way, of course). It is a strange but beautiful thing. Partners in health seems like a wonderful organisation that brings not just concrete changes but hope for humanity.
When I learned of his passing Monday before last, I was facilitating a presentation, and I grieved silently in front of a couple dozen people who were unfamiliar with him or his work. I felt grief for my new found loneliness in a world without him. I felt grief for those who've yet to be introduced to his work, and then those who will never get to meet him, including me. Yet then, I was suddenly fortified by the gratitude for the exemplar left behind. In his legacy of uncompromising generosity there is certainly a model for the highest heights of human conduct. Though they are lofty shoes to fill, at the very least, we've got an informed vantage from atop the shoulders of this giant. As any good Farmer would, he left the world better than he'd found it.
