Chicago Cubs fan here-I never thought the Cubs would win a World Series in my lifetime. After the Steve Bartman incident, I genuinely believed the franchise was cursed and didn’t think I could bear to watch another game. Then, in 2016, I got to see them finally do it. There’s nothing like it. I’ll remember exactly where I was, who I was with, and how I felt for the rest of my life. If the Leafs lose on Monday, it will just make the moment sweeter when it finally comes. I know it’s hard to think like that right now, but I thought maybe a little empathy from a fellow human who cheers for a perennially “unlucky in the post-season” franchise might help provide a little perspective. Let’s go! Leafs in 7.
@@Hockeyhobo89 Yeah, but it’s foolish to ignore the century of losing before that win... My grandfather died before he could see the Cubs win the World Series. An entire lifetime of cheering for a team to never see them go the distance, but his love of the game and the team transcends the wins and losses. The win will come-the question is when.
They lose Monday and you change everything. Dubas, fired. Keefe and staff, fired. Shanahan, Fired. Marner, Traded. Matthews, Traded. Nylander, Traded, Reilly, trader, Dermott, let go to Kraken. Start from ground zero. How much worse can it get, than to lose the the worst team to make the playoffs in decades, in a season you never played a single top 10 team.
I like Bieska’s insight, but don really remember him a a special player. Go on CBC HNIC and your an expert. Who the hell is Anthony Stewart too. 4th liner on what teams
Thank you, Steve, for once again PERFECTLY articulating EXACTLY how every Leaf fan feels this morning. Please don't give up on LFR. It's every Leaf fan's therapy...mine included.
I think Steve nailed it when he said this team is simply 'Haunted'. Staff changes. Players change. Same result. Same feel. No finish. No killer instinct.
Not really..... y’all have had the same 11 mil players for what 5 years now? They’re the issue. They’re not getting paid can do money, they’re being paid maybe money. You need to ship out one or two of the core pieces for can do players. Y’all shipped out your last great can do player in Kessel, just you didn’t surround him with other players to assist him like you did with Mathews. Funny how the fans chase players out of Toronto and then they play ten fold better out of the franchise. Keefe needs to go, you need a trotz!
Problem is the template for the team...Dubas fault keeps doubling down on a failure of a blueprint he built a team that does well in reg season but no heart for playoffs
As much as I laugh at the leafs sometimes as a bruins fan this team passes me off. With the off-season they had and the roster on paper tells me this team should at least make it to the second round in the playoffs. It's getting ridiculous and I'm saying this as a BRUINS FAN I hope steve finds more then peace in after next game cuz steve (and also leaf fans in general) need it.
The last "What would you change?" part of this rant really hurt to hear. It's the realization that this may be this teams last real shot at a good cup run at what you could consider a very talented roster that's at their peak that has simply underperformed at every key moment in their current stint. I'm a Coyotes fan. There's nothing, but we know that. Leafs have what it takes, but they just never seem to get over that hump.
and that's precisely why, as a coyotes fan as well, I would kill to have an org like the Leafs to support over the Coyotes. But I stick myself to them and wish for the best that has hopefully yet to come.
To be honest Steve, I’ll follow any content you do, if moving to more broad content will let you be happier and have more creative freedom, then I’m all here for it.
As a Leafs fan, personally I hope they loose cause there needs to be a major overhaul of the organization, starting with the two geniuses at the top and dumping a few of those top players

If habs beat Toronto I wouldn’t be surprised if they beat Winnipeg, as for if Toronto wins I don’t think they can beat Winnipeg unless the top line wakes up.
As a Habs fan - I watch this every day. I actually pitied Toronto..... which is sad. Look at it this way, Montreal shut down every top line in June - T.O. was just the first. Not haunted, just increasingly overmatched and out coached.
I'm an Avalanche fan who literally SCREAMED IN ANGER when Marner committed that dumb penalty WHILE ON THE PK! I follow some Leafs fans on Twitter and Dangle is why I was angry at the Leafs for playing like garbage, because I wanted Dangle to celebrate and be happy. Look what the Leafs have done to him. It's heartbreaking
"What would you change?" Honestly, at this point, the one thing I would change is ever becoming a Leafs fan. I've never been so close to crying during a hockey game before this. Being a Leafs fan is like being in a toxic relationship. Being a Leafs fan is setting yourself up for disappointment and heartbreak. At this point, man, i'm angry and sad and all of the above and I know there's no point. I had this underlying numbness and lack of hope settling in my heart as soon as Montréal scored those 2 goals in the first. I can't even begin to explain how frustrated and depressed I am because of this. I've dedicated all my life to this team. It's a toxic and vicious cycle of loyalty and commitment that I can't help but feel will only lead to being disappointed over and over again. I don't know whether these feeling's are towards this hockey team, or myself for still blindly believing in this hockey team. I'm just so tired.
Honestly couldn't have said it better myself, I've been a leafs fan for as long as I can remember, but honestly, this constant let down, this constant false hope from being up 3-1 in a series and still being eliminated, it drains u man, it really does, honestly I don't even wanna watch game 7, cuz in my head, I know what's gonna happen
As a Winnipeg boy growing up with no NHL team, I cheered for the Leafs as they were usually the team CBC would cover on Saturdays. The second they announced the Jets were getting a team back I dropped the Leafs like a bad habit. Haven't missed them for a moment. I'll make you a guarantee, the Leafs will never win a Stanley Cup again. Yes technically you can argue they have a chance every season, but I'm telling you this now as honestly as I can. It's NEVER going to happen. This isn't like the Red Sox, this isn't like the Cubs, this isn't like the Cavaliers, this isn't like Liverpool FC. The Leafs are cursed in a way beyond any franchise in pro sports and it's going to stay that way for the rest of our lives and the lives that come after. As soon as you make peace with this, the sooner you'll be able to heal.
I did exactly the same thing. In fact, I had my arm up and yelled “NOT MEEEEE”. I’m not sure I can watch game 7 at this point, but like the idiot that I, I probably will.
Shoutout to the hockey guy! On another note are we really surprised this is how the series has turned out? It doesn't even hurt anymore I'm just numb to the pain
Nah, it still fucking hurts. I can't pretend that it doesn't. As Leafs fans, we'll never get used to this. This team and this fanbase is definitely cursed.
I sat there and watched them all game, they fought back, I thought maybe just maybe they would squeeze something out before end of regulation .. once OT hit I knew we were screwed... the young end of the D Corp is not reliable enough.. Dermott, Holl, and Sandin... one of those 3 needs to go for someone solid. Doesn't matter L or R... just need more reliable D
Even as a Habs fan I thought Leafs in 6 at start of series. Leafs have had 2 chances to put away Montreal. Anything can happen tomorrow in Game 7. Price is in beast mode & his numbers are insane in elimination games
All I can say at this point is thank you Steve. You've said everything there is to say. I wish I could keep believing in this team, but I can't until they give us any kind of reason to. If they win on Monday, great - if not, I don't know what to say. Probably have to follow the Kraken next year.

I don't know what hurts me more the loss or Matthews with that big smile enjoying it. Where are they? Spezza, 37yo, making 900k/Year is worth more than Matthews and Marner combined this series. Even Thornton is getting points and he can barely skate. If poor babies Matthews and Marner need players around them that make them feel 8 feet tall, they don't deserve half of what they're getting. Don't risk your health over the performance of any sports team. Toronto has to want it more, they have to win the puck battles and let Montreal know they are there, check the body, play physical. They have the talent, it's the will and desire that makes the difference. Game seven should be epic.
Thank you Steve. Watching your video was a cathartic experience. You vocalized all that I was feeling and thinking. I’m on the same page. They lose, again, in game 7 and I wash my hands of this team. I’m done.
As a Caps fan I am excited to see more Steve Dangle content, reviewing others teams games seems like a great idea! Also as a Caps fan, I feel for you, we’ve been collapsing in game 7 from 2009 to 2018, we’ve lost the series to Montreal after being legit cup favourites and leading 3-1 in 2010. There were so much humiliation, memes with Ovie hoisting the golf bag and every other fanbase laughed at us. Seeing Pens winning it every time they crushed us in the second round... It so freaking hard and painful. I am pretty sure Leafs will close this series and I’m certain that this core will eventually make it. Good luck Steve and Leafs fans!

Yet in every aspect of the game, he comes through when it's needed. Hits, blocks, assists, goals, faceoffs, fights, smart plays, leadership... everything.

"What would you change?"
Honestly, at this point, the one thing I would change is ever becoming a Leafs fan.
I agree with everything you’ve said here.... sadly
If Toronto doesn’t come out and DOMINATE game 7 in every damn way, I’ll be done as a Leaf fan.
