Rarotongans and tahitians can agree with the Tui manu'a to us we call them Manuka Tere Manu'a - tere (Great manuka). We have no stories of going there and paying tribute to them cause of some umiti but we sing old songs of Havaiki,Kuporu and Manuka Tere. Songs and stories rarely sung and told today because we mainly speak on old legends and Christianity. And on fiji the first people to fiji was not black they were the same people as the rest of Polynesia. This is where the wars broke out in fiji over the control of the lands this is where samoa come in cause samoa recognized the original people of fiji as their own. Fijians today will claim they are the start of our people I'm not fijian but get a couple fijians into this podcast and they'll say their empire came before any other empire in the pacific.
We do not dispute the existence of the Tui Manua. We dispute whether a real political, religious, or actual Tui Manua empire existed. Hawaii/Savaii and other areas in Polynesia refer to the origin of Tangaloa and Maui before they settled in Tonga-Hawaii is their origin, which is a faraway land (Samoa isn't far from Tonga). Lastly, Tongans have shared that Fijians have been in Fiji for a very long time and have never expressed that there were people in Fiji before the Fijians arrived. Any links that share more on your information would be greatly appreciated, Malo.
@PolynesianEyes you dispute that but come up with laughable stories about Tongans coming from the Americas and the Tongan empire covering all of Polynesia? Yeah right 😂
Nobody will ever know the truth about our Polynesian history because it wasn’t written down, so it’s better to just live our lives as 1 people and be happy life’s short especially for us polys 😂
If I am not mistaken those were battles in Haapai and before he became the TT. I also heard some rumblings that the Catholic records contrdict the Methodist records. Where the Methodist records says Tupou I won in Haapai but the Catholic records say Laufilitonga won - I suspect politics is playing a major role in the contradicting accounts
@PolynesianEyes interesting, where can I get the Catholic information? It's funny because the same goes with the Pea fortress. My father will have some debatable discussions with the Pea. Their side of the story is way different from ours (Wesleyan), and we are the descendants of Valu from Utulau. The only argument is that the Wesleyan history was written by Tongans and Englishman, and the Catholics were written by the Frenchman only, am I right?
So technically, if the political, titles, land inheritance are passed down through the eldest male, that would make our current King, from Tupou the fourth a Tungí or Tu’i Ha’atakalaua instead of Tupou. They’re basically using their mother’s last name..

This is where you guys need to understand about our people and our diet. We had no pigs or horses lamb and cows to eat. Our diet was based around the sea. Our people are sea people and so what if samoans brought seafood to tonga to pay tribute to the tongan king. Ypu forget the food the sea provides. All types of fish l, samoans were experts of catching tuna fish. You got crabs tukumisi eels sharks etc. That's why we based our die at around the moana. The only land food we had was rats birds chickens and dogs plus the plantation back then food was worth far more then gold. And another thing theirs no stories of eastern polynesians saying they were under the Rule of the Tui Tonga or paying any tribute to them for so called Inasi.
Pigs were in Tonga before European contact. No doubt, seafood was an essential part of the diet, but this does not confirm anything. The only real evidence of an empire seems to be in Tonga. None of the other references have physical evidence to confirm Tonga.
