Your work is truly incredible Peter. I am in awe from across the pond. I have followed you for several years and can submit only one complaint, we never get to see how your clients take over your work and set up in their own homes. It would be fantasic to have a "where is it now" video especially on this mega project.
Once I finish a project and hand over a railroad, I can only produce videos if the owners send me the content. There have been a few such offerings in the past, but not as many as I would like to publish. Maybe there will be more in the future as the owners have time to work on their layouts.
Superb work Peter. And to think that there is another level to go! I might have to start a new model railroad club in Sydney just to run this behemoth 😁
Ever since you described to me the type of railroad you wanted, I've assumed that this has been your intention. There have already been a few locals express in interest, and I'm sure you'll have no shortage of modelers wanting to be a part of it as soon as it's know that you have this.
I've wondered who was getting this art work! It's going to be amazing, wish I was back in Sydney to join the club!! instead I will have to admire from Texas. (The shipping is going to be interesting!! I designed mine to fit on a pallet stacked.. Made it from Sydney to Dallas no issues.. I think you'll need a full 40ft container though!!)
@@CGngauge All the benchwork sections are sized to fit efficiently in a standard 40' container. Most of the sections are 7' long (using Pythagoras to ensure that there's room to tilt them) , allowing them to stand on end with the staging yard sections sliding into the space on top.
G'day Peter. WOW, that's some amazing bit of layout right there. Back a few shows you said he was going to have long trains, you weren't kidding. There's a days work just sorting out the freight. He'll be playing Casey Jones until the cows come home. What a masterpiece.
It's always best to have the staging tracks a few feet longer than the trains you plan to run. My previous home railroad suffered from staging tracks that were too tight and a whole operating session could come to a standstill if someone parked a short train in one of the longer tracks (instead of reading their operating instructions).
@@mpeterll G'day Peter. I'm trying to layout my marshalling yards and I wan't to incorporate 2 emergency run off lines. I have 7 main lines coming in joining down to 3. 1 is the main line to my Intermodal yards and stacking lines, the next one heads into the marshalling yards to be broken up and the other into the light cargo and service lines. Where the 3 lines come in I would like to put as long a sweeping points x4 and 2 long xings to match the angle of the long points as a smooth transition to the emergency lines. Can you tell me please what is the longest code 55 points that are available? I can only find #10 Atlas but I have seen them much longer. I think they were #20 or #22. Many thanks Chris Corrigan.
Congratulations on your skill and experience. Great job so far to put mildly. You are a true craftsman. Once again, I think, this is your masterpiece- layout construction and now laying the track. Truly masterful and a joy follow you in this build. God grant you good heath!

I often have a video of yours playing in the background when working on my layout. My GF came in and watched me, then looked at your video. Back and forth a few times. He works much faster than you, his work is a lot neater also. Thanks, Brother.
Your video has appeared atleast 50 times in the past few days and every-time I think it’s a snake on the baseboard but then I see it SUCKS and it got me in for a comment. Stay safe. Keep up the great content.
Not a snake. I've only seen a total of five since I moved here in 2019: One in each workshop, two in the garage, and Zeus caught one in the backyard a few weeks ago.

Can’t wait to see a video of how you finally dismantle this monster and crate it safely for shipping. Do you have a scheme to number or mark sections so that the client can easily fit pieces back together like a jigsaw? This layout is beyond words.
Holy shit how much does this Ozzie have that he needs THIS. MUCH. STAGING? I have a lot, I admit, and could fill that layout nicely, but all of it? I gotta up my game. Tell Oz that the last 150 NARC Canpotex cars went to me. That'll make him hate me. Lol
Most model railroads suffer from inadequate staging. As a general rule, always put in at least twice as much as you think you need. You'll be surprised at how quickly it gets used up, especially if running a full operating session.
I came to this channel only when you started the Sidney Project, and I did not pay a lot of attention to the tracks. When you made the custom turn-out I noticed that the two rails are soldered to common copper sleepers, which makes it just one conductor. Where is the second conductor placed then?
I sell it on my website (link in the description). The material I use for staging yards is 1/8" thick, although I also sell 1/4" for use on main lines.
Pop cans for weight lol I thought I was the only one been doing it since the 80s only way to go. Just took delivery of another 600 cans of the dew just wish we had the original like you it all went energized now here in Australia so had caffeine and does not take like it use to. Great progress extraordinary scale your on is the whole room HVAC controlled?
You may have explained this before, but is this layout going to Sydney Australia? The logistics of shipping there seems overwhelming. Will you be going there to install it?
I have no first-hand experience of adding ambient sounds. I've read about it several times in Model Railroader in the last decade or so, so try looking there.

Carpentry fineness aside, the track-laying is exquisite.

Probably the largest staging yard ever seen so far. The most precise for sure. Great job as always!
Absolutely fascinating watching this coming together, and I'm in admiration of your craftsmanship.
Glad you are enjoying the series.
@@mpeterll Very much so, thank you :)
Building large layouts like this, is a mammoth and lonely task! Brilliant job!!!!!👏👏👏👏
Perfect for certain personality types.
What an amazing peice of engineering. Love the long parallel track section.
Staging yards are my favorite component of a layout. Thank you for the treat. Superior work as usual.
I wouldn't quite go that far, but they are probably the most important part of any model railroad.
Amazing yard and beautifully laid trackwork.

Do the Dew dude! They should sponsor your channel!
Why would they pay for product placement that they already get for free?
I truly admire your craftsmanship, but that last rail is really tight to the edge.
I'm not sure which one you mean. There is more than enough clearance everywhere. Maybe it's just a camera angle that makes it look questionable.
Great work on the main staging yard. Is this layout coming to Australia? Mike HO from Bairnsdale. (Victoria)
It's headed for Sydney.

The copper ties must have a gap filed in them to avoid a dead-short. I did a series on building these turnouts about 2-3 years ago.
Hi Peter & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks Peter & Friends Randy
Your work is great. How thick is the rubber for the road base. Would it be possible to get the info on where you can buy it?
In NZ I buy a similar product it comes in various thicknesses, I use a 5mm and it comes from a specialized rubber supply shop.
I sell it on my website (link in the description).
The material I use for staging yards is 1/8" thick, although I also sell 1/4" for use on main lines.

Are you going to landscape as well or is the client doing that .When do you think it will be delivered to Sydney?
Peter, are you doing this all alone?
Yes I am. I find that "helpers" only slow me down.

OK thanks anyway
You need an assistant.
An assistant would only slow me down. I prefer to work alone.
