Thanks for playing "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan. I knew you would like this. The goal is to stay forever young at heart even as we age. Take care. And may you and everyone out there stay forever young.
I played in bars and small venues for many years and this song was in my repertoire. When my wife passed away in 2005 I couldn't sing it in public for a while because I was unable to sing it without my voice cracking with emotion for about a year. It's always been one of my favorite Dylan songs.
@@stephenmichalski2643 Sorry to hear that Stephen. Those songs have a bittersweetness about them. The sweet memories of their lives and the sadness of their passing can make them emotionally overwhelming.
"May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift" For some reason I get emotional whenever I hear this song!!! Please consider Bob's "Your gonna make me lonesome when you go"!! Bob like The Beatles has so many great songs and keep up the good work and analysis!!
The verses are great but when he hits that solid chorus, that's what really gets to me. It's just so solid and he supports it and holds it more than he normally does. Really powerful.
we're delighted you're doing this. fyi, there's a more "countrified" version of this same song - just flip the record over.....and while there give a listen to You Angel You if you like. All the best for a great 2023!
If you're interested in his harmonica playing, you should listen to "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands," off of his "Blonde on Blonde' double album, if you're don't mind sitting through a 11 minute and 22 second track. The harmonica playing at the end of the song is among his best performances in my opinion, along with this playing on "Absolutely Sweet Marie," on the same album.
Thank you for posting this. I agree with you 100%--its a beautiful song. I remember when his Planet Waves LP was released and this song seemed to standout above the rest. Ofc there are several great tracks on this album. The Band (Dylan's backing band for several years) really makes this tune special. Garth Hudson in particular, who plays the organ, has a magical way of filling in the spaces at the right moment with a perfect touch and sound. The instrumental portion at the end gives this tune a unique signature of comfort. Also on this LP is a biting and bitter song called Dirge. It's the total opposite end of the spectrum as opposed to Forever Young. The opening line alone (I hate myself for loving you) basically says all you need to know about the song. I'm not sure if you want to react to it, but it's definitely worthy of a listen. Like you, I hope those you spoke of in the intro are okay and getting better. I keep telling myself this new year will be better than the last one, but I thought the same thing in the beginning of 2022. I will pray that my fellow Cimdy subs will find the strength within to overcome what ails them and may they be back on their feet soon. Best wishes and love to all.
When my first granddaughter was born, someone made her a scroll type poster with the lyrics from this song very neatly written. She is 7 now and still hangs on her bedroom wall. ❤️ Thank you, Cimdy. This is another touching song for which you have done a nice reaction.
I have a verse of this song framed on my wall as well - it has a drawing of a ladder to the stars with a young boy climbing them . . . I just love it. Dylan's been my favorite artist since the late 60s so it's very special to me (I have a framed announcement of a show he did at Philarmonic Hall in NYC sometime in the 60s - the seats ran from $2.75 - $4.50 each! lol - can you imagine?) lol
I just love your reactions to Forever Young. Your reactions force me to react to you. Stories, especially stories in song are IMHO the greatest form of human expression. We humans need stories about the past to help us understand our own passage through time. Typically we begin by trying to understand the lyrics. We hope for a 'lovely' voice. Many avoid listening to Dylan because of his voice; say what? Dylan demolishes our preconceptions of what a song/story can be. The operative words for 'getting' his stories/songs are "How does it feel?" I send you links from a handful of his greatest productions. View them as visual/audio/emotional trips through a world of beauty, symbols, icons, name of artist, emblems, fragments of art, and often the simple juxtaposition of words that just sound great next to one another. Do not insist on a cohesive story that always "makes sense" I provide UA-cam examples that you are unlikely to stumble across. Others will suggest versions that are easier to find. You will obviously not have time for all, but do sample a few. for lyrics : AZLYRICS.com A song sung sweetly in Bob's 'out of the box' voice Bob Dylan - Pretty Saro (Official Video) Covers of a song of love Bob Dylan - Buckets of Rain cover by Toni Lindgren ua-cam.com/video/fmw-EWVmolc/v-deo.html Anana Kaye - "Is Your Love in Vain?" This is an album that few fans adore but I do. PLANET WAVES was an immediate curiosity because it features the reunion with Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Richard Manual, Garth Hudson, etc. (No, I won't listen that publishing-rights thief by name.)
There is actually another version of this song on the album. It's sped up a lot. Rod Stewart took the lyrics from this song and made his own version but he actually had to get Bob Dylan's permission to release it. Bob said ok, but Bob's name had to be on it as co-writer plus money. 🥴🥴🥴🤔🤔✌️👍
Sometimes I've slipped...Sometimes I've fallen....but yeah....I will remember and stay forever young💪💪💪💖🌈

That's poignant. I'm a musician too and I can totally relate. Sorry about your loss.

I sent this song to each of my 4 grandchildren. They will always remember their poppy 🤘❤️
Kind words for the geng, Cim!
Love this song
Great reaction: a lot of substance, emotion, and analysis.
I heard this song and I like it 👌
It's fun to see someone discover Bob Dylan and love what they hear. Many of us have felt the same way over the many years of his career.
Cimdy, your message at the start of this shows why we all think so highly of you, that was an awesome thing to do ❤😘😘

This was played at my daughters funeral, sang by Joan Baez, who really does the song justice.

It's impossible not to love you. Totally enjoyed this. Great one here, Happy new my queen.

Thank you! ❤️
Hurricane ~ that Dylan song came out about four years after this one and helped to get an innocent black man out of jail
Listen also to "Lord Protect My Child"
