Here I am 70 years old in 2024 remembering when I was 11 years old boy at a home for boys in New York State watching Folk Rockers Peter, Paul & Mary on television doing a Bob Dylan song (1962). Priceless. 👍
@@susanpeterson9947 Yes! Thank goodness we were brought up in my humble opinion of the greatest decade (60's) in Rock & Roll music. They (Peter Paul & Mary) were the greatest Folk Rock singers of the 60's. Thanks for your reply.
Written in 1962 when Suze Rotolo, Dylan’s girlfriend, was pursuing art studies in Italy and decided to prolong her stay there, leaving Bob feeling like he was walking down that lonesome road. Thanks David and Harri.
Dylan wrote, and recorded this song. They had hits with several Dylan songs. Perfect blend of his poetic words and the harmony of their beautiful voices.
One of my fondest memories of my childhood was receiving the double LP concert set for Christmas one year. It takes superb talent for a trio to hold a huge audience spellbound, and PPM had all that and more. Paul was simply incomparable. Blue is still my favourite.
Peter Paul and Mary were icons of a brief era in popular music: Folk. It was late 50s, early 60s and it became popular because it was safe. You could have entertainers like Peter Paul and Mary, The Smothers Brothers, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, etc. on TV variety shows and not worry about offending anyone. They were mildly rebellious without being threatening. The music was good, if tame, and the performers squeaky clean. It was soon replaced by surfing, teen angst and and car songs taking over the Top 40. It was a fun time to reach your teens.
I think you will find Pete Seeger was much more than mildy rebellious, constantly in trouble for his communist views, he was for some time blacklisted and banned from network tv and concert halls. His music was not tame and squeaky clean either. I would also question whether Joan Baez could be described as tame and squeaky clean as well.
@@iandowney4630 Absolutely, anyone that suggests folk music was short lived is clearly lacking in any knowledge of the genre. Surf songs, teen angst and car songs (as mentioned by freedomluvr-vh5ic) have however sunk without trace.
and Bob Dylan was in his early 20's when he wrote this song. And many others: A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, Blowing In The Wind, The Times They Are A-Changing. So young and so old at the same time.
This was the very first song I ever performed in public, singing and playing the guitar, in 1979. I didn't do it very well, but I still love the song and the arrangement.
Their music is so easy to listen to with great harmonies. I guess that's why folk music is liked so much. Some groups are known for keeping the genre relevant
Dylan could definitely write a song like that (lol), great that you picked up on that. Peter, Paul, and Mary were beloved to us folkies and hippies back in the day and still are. Nobody like them.
Saw them perform when I was 12. Back in 1989. And I got to meet Paul backstage in his trailer. My Dad's friend is a musician and a close friend of Pauls. Paul actually played at his wedding back in the 70s.
Very curious to know if you have heard the Cock Robin version then. 😊 And if you haven’t, what you think of it. ua-cam.com/video/adLjBvcVpvw/v-deo.htmlsi=uYiBIgDNxfqjlvUi
I love Peter, Paul, & Mary. Mary Travers is one of my top Female Singers. I’m digging deep on this one - Alice Faye- Janis Joplin - Ann Wilson- Linda Ronstadt❤❤❤❤❤. Thank you Hari🎶🖖🏼

Oh yeah, they made Dylan sound GOOOD. Knew this song long before I felt the pain of love lost… Sadly, it didn’t come to mind 10-11 years later when it applied to me. But now, what a strange memory vibe this gives me. Melancholy joy, weirdly. What I wouldn’t give to feel that sort of sadness again! Or at least, to walk down that lonely road again. ❤️
Your comment that this song is like a Bob Dylan song seemed to indicate that you didn't know that this IS a Bob Dylan song. Loved your reaction to this fingerpicking, harsh truth-telling classic.
I was awfully young when this song came out. I was sleeping outside in our yard with my foster sister. We loved to do that and listen to our transistor radio.
@@iandowney4630 It was my last year at sleep-away camp and I climbed up into a tree to get a good view.. Was a really special trip and we all knew that the show was going to be a memory. Those were the days..
When I first heard this song my girlfriend and I had just had an uncomfortable breakup. The lyrics: "I ain't saying you treated me unkind. You could have done better, but I don't mind. You just sorta wasted my precious time." were a great catharsis.
This is one of my favourite Dylan songs and PP&M more than do it justice. They are just so ingrained in my childhood, amazing how something like this can take you back. If you haven’t listened to Dylan’s version it is also worth a reaction. Much more scathing this one, but Dylan at his acoustic best.
For another great ‘separation’ song, check out Jim Croce ‘Lovers Cross’. Also very beautiful, well dealing with complex negative stuff. I’m sure you won’t need much prompting to listen to another of a Jim’s classics!
Great cover from PP+M of Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" from 1963's Freewheeling Bob Dylan. I highly recommend another cover version from 1992's Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert from MSG. Eric Clapton takes a page from Jimi Hendrix and makes a Dylan tune his own with his absolutely blistering take on "Don't Think Twice It's Alright". For me it's Clapton's best guitar work since the 70's. It's a must hear song.
Great reaction to a great cover of an absolute stone-cold classic. Thank you. Apt of you to think that Dylan could have written this, since (and by now you know this), Dylan wrote it and performed it first. I love his version more, but still love this version also.
Story. I went to the concert. My parents did not know. It was 3 blocks from my college dorm. Dad was flying back from NY & sat next to one of them. Coulda had a back stage pass!
