The Pixel 8 took me by surprise ngl, I thought it would be identical to the 7p
He's a pro-Pixel, which makes it very difficult to trust him when it comes to Pixels, he's too biased in favor of Pixels when it comes to photo-video and software.
@@rolins3279 As much as he loves Pixels, he's one of the biggest critics of these devices. You'd know that if you've followed his channel long enough. You need to check out his long term reviews of the Pixel 6 & 7. As far as I know, he's also the only UA-cam that thoroughly goes through Android software updates and Google app updates to spot changes and bugs. Biased is the last thing you'd call him. I know what Pixel fanboys sound like. He's not one

You're one of the best reviewers out there. Detailed, honest and into the function of the phone. That's the thing we need. Not some paid and rich one who bragging about their liking
It's amazing how much more you can learn about how a phone performs when you actually test its features. So many other reviewers read the spec sheet or press release but never actually use the features for themselves in a rush to be first to release their "reviews". I second this comment. Tech communities love to hate on the Pixel because it’s so popular and it looks cool to hate it. Yet Pixel fans know the experience is the only thing that matters.

Great review. It was much more comprehensive than others I have seen on UA-cam so far. I had a few questions though such as:
- whether we can record 4k 60 fps for extended periods of time or not?
- is heating still an issue especially while recording videos?
- would it negatively affect our experience in a major way if we don't keep max resolution to extend battery life?

- For the 4k60 it does exceed 1h indoors and I stopped it myself not because of heat but I didn't test it in hot weather for that long as it's spring here but under the sun which is still hot, it did work really well with mixed usage photos and videos for 2H straight.
- For the resolution I tested with the 6 Pro as far as I remember and it was 1% difference per hour between HD and QHD

Glad to hear about all the improvements especially the thermal management. My Pixel 6 used to simply not charge in the car with our weather here in the UAE. Glad to see Google did something about it for the Pixel 8.

Thank you for your honest and detailed tech review. Other tech reviewers tend to lean more or less on details that promote their favorite brand over others. You are honest and point out the flaws as well as the highlights of all the devices. If more tech reviewers would be as honest and detailed about what they're reviewing, perhaps Google Pixel phones market share would significantly increase allowing Google to spread the brand to more countries faster. I have owned every XL and Pro model Pixel phone since the original Pixel XL and am well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of all models. I can honestly say, from a Google Pixel phone owner's point of view, the Google Pixel 8 series is the best Pixel phone to date! Great video! Really enjoyed viewing! Keep them coming!

Yeah last year they were pretty mediocre, but this year Google has hit the bullseye. Sure the chip is a little bit behind SD 8 Gen 2, but that won't matter in 99% of situations. (The A17 is a disaster in the real world usage- comes down to luck, some can't even get 5 hours of SOT/overheat/throttle, whilst others do fine but noone should be forced to play lottery when buying a new phone)

this is a proper review, not some lazy ass comparison based on few days of usage on pre-release software, you even went a step further with the qpr beta which is a step further in fine tuning the experience.
Pixels are probably best tuned devices out there, maybe they don't offer as many features as some other android devices or the best hardware, but they give you the absolute maximum polish overall.
I've been using one for 2 weeks now, been pretty happy with it once I switched from initial messing stage to actual day to day life mode.
There are so many aspects of pixel phones that improve my daily life, typing, camera, translate options (kind of a big deal for me since I use 3 different languages every single day), etc.
It improves my life in ways other phones simply can't do.
I would love if Pixels had snapdragon 8gen3 and offer max performance on demand, but even like this it doesn't affect any aspect of my life so far.
Now it will be fun to see in december feature drop brings us night sight in videos, zoom enhancement, bard and what not and how does all that stack up with 8gen3 flagship phones that will come from now till January.
I do share the same experience, the features that really help not staying there for the count and am super excited for December.

This is probably the best review I've seen, itcovers very important areas for the end user.
Only thing I found myself when moving from the seven pro to the 8 pro is that in HDR indoors that the eight pro is darker with shadow detail. Especially if you watch something like stranger things or Wednesday or Netflix or just look at some UA-cam HDR videos.
On your review it does look brighter which makes me think mine is possibly faulty.
I did compare it also to a store demo model and that was identical to the eight pro I got. So I just assumed it was the same for all eight pros until I saw your review.
I think that's the most in depth video I've seen. Amazing job 🎉

This is the first pixel flagship in years which didn't have much issues. I was skeptical about pixels when i first bought 4a and now went with pixel 7.
Can you check if pixel 8 has more recent modem or baseband version newer than September? I saw pixel 7 get the same September version with qpr1 beta 2, ofc the build id was different. I believe Google has sorted out the connectivity issues on 5300 modem but the newer firmware isn't applied on older model until December/Jan 23 feature drop.I never had much hopes on thermals, display and modems on pixel 8 series but they surely showed me.😂😂
I wonder if Tsmc or in house SoC development for future tensor SoC the gains should be more.

I've seen a lot of people say if you have a Pixel 7 Pro you don't need to upgrade to the Pixel 8 Pro, and while this is technically true, as it's true for anyone that has a working phone doesn't need to really upgrade if it's doing what you need it to do. The actual quality of the P8 Pro is so much better than the P7 Pro, I have been using pixels since the P3 and I have only ever been truly impressed by the 3 and the 5... 7 was a great step in the right direction but the 8 is now officially my favourite phone... Ever. Which might not mean much to most people but it's high praise from me I assure you.

On the P8P, are you able to take a portrait shot and then go into Google photos and turn down or turn off the blur?
I could do this on my P6P no problem, but the setting seems broken on the P8P. It's very useful when the subject isolation fails and you want to remove the blur.

Thank you so much for the in depth review on battery life. You spent a minute and a half on better life when most over reviewers only spend like 10 seconds on.
You also mentioned usage on mobile data vs wifi while others either only use wifi for reviews or don't mention it at all.
Unfortunately I can't really agree that the battery life is impressive. Either way, great review.

Such deep insights, great! Though I would like to add that if you capture human portrait with the normal 5X telephoto lens mode and then add background blur to it, it matches DSLR level human photography and background separation.
I tried that, but not the same, usually Google photos misses to blur the areas between arms
@@IDTR Yes, even though it's relatively lower in percentage nowadays and that's why I said "portraits" i.e. the upper portion of the body or face only photos of human subjects.

As always, the best reviews when it comes to smartphones. Really in debt and you descontruct a lot of "marketing features" that brands try to sell us. Being said, I have a question I would love to hear your opinion:
- Do you feel that it's better to use the 50mp when it comes to photos?
The use case it's just social media and photos do keep memories. I have an 256gigas 8pro, and I always was a desbeliever for high Mps because I always felt that the photos algorithm was always better using the 12Mps. But in your review, it seems to been on pair/even better on 50Mps.

The 50MP of the 8 Pro is great with all lenses and there's a big difference in quality but the size could be an issue if you kept using it all the time, for me I use it for the moments the matter the most but other than this am happy with the 12MP too

In my early use i am finding the 50MP is slower to get the shot so if your trying to picture a child/pet the 12MP is easily the way to go. Static scene then yes definitely use the higher res@@IDTR
