And he actually has a personality and undergoes so much character growth. People also often forget how similar he is to MaoMao. They are both wild characters who complete each other
I 100% AGREE! I recently finished the 13th light novel (since it just came out in english) and the way JInshi respects Maomao and understands her emotions in chapter 15. just AAHHHHHHHHHH it makes me scream. He grew so much in character.
I know MaoMao is saying she doesn't want to become Gyokuyou's enemy and Jinshi is trying to pass the throne off to her toddler son but has anyone asked what Gyokuyou wants?
Recently Natsu Hyuga responded to a fan and told him that he was the most difficult character to write that's why he didn't appear much in the novels Also she doesn't like the character, he only remains in the story because he is her sister and aunt favorite character
She said that the only reason she doesn’t like Jinshi is because he’s the most difficult to write (that’s also why the quack doctor is her favorite character as he is the easiest to write). She found Jinshi annoying at the beginning but he has grown on her. That’s why she’s writing him in a positive manner in the latest chapters
I have a feeling the anime will lose a lot of fans in season 3 if we do get a season 3 which is unfortunate since jinshi really starts to grow after that 😭
Their scene on the balcony at the end of LN volume 9 is also a very significant hint on character development. I hope you left it out here, because you want to do another video on that part?
I agree, her development is even bigger in that scene. Although it is somewhat triggered by him using a totally different approach then his usual clingy self. Thus I feel it is connected to the scene earlier where he asks Baryou about how love takes root. I‘d love to write some more about it, so I‘m looking forward to your Video on Maomao.
It's so funny because I loved him from the start, especially with all his flaws, so after burning through the anime, all 13 light novels in english, and even getting caught up on the translation of the web novels, I only JUST started to realize that the character was unpopular among so many. I find him to be an absolute delight, and seeing him develop into a more sincere person with Maomao is just so utterly charming Then again, that could be bias, as I read a CERTAIN notable scene as more bodice-ripper style sexual tension than how a lot of people interpreted it, ehe Also, for the record, I'm STILL not sure if he knows about his father's true identity? Like Maomao knows, obviously Ah-Duo and the emperor know, but Jinshi? I wouldn't doubt he has an inkling things aren't as clear cut, but I don't recall anywhere he expresses that he knows. That's part of why his maneuvering to be in a better position to be with Maomao has been flawed lol
I don't think the emperor knows. He believes his son died in infancy. Jinshi doesn't know, as far as I can tell (I've read all the novels, manga, etc.), but he is fond of Ah Duo, probably because she was a mentor-type figure for him. His "elder brother" is rather fatherly to him, probably because of the age difference and feeling responsible for Jinshi/Zui because he was fatherless growing up. I'm with you on the absolute delight. It's truly an "opposites attract" kind of relationship, and I love the subtlety of it. I had no idea people didn't like him! It's pretty clear from the get-go that he finds Maomao interesting and different from all other women he's encountered. I think the dislike probably comes from a more superficial understanding of the anime, but Jinshi did do some weird stuff in the beginning, so I can see the confusion of some viewers. Heck, it took me quite a while to understand the kiss scene at the end of Vol. 7! I think translation made that scene a little too vague. Are you talking about the frog scene? I got the sexual tension, although not a bodice-ripper. Volume 13, however, has that _one_ scene where bodices were almost ripped... and hilariously written. :)
I was literally in a thread where someone kept saying he's problematic for his actions (only him) when around Maomao (also spoiler territory). But there's never any mention that most of his interactions with her (with just the two of them) is most of the time, reactions to Maomao's own actions. It's like they make Maomao seem like she's incapable of doing any wrong lol Granted I'm aware it's not an excuse that he was the type to not understand what consent meant but I think that's the point, he has to eventually find it out. There's literally 13 volumes in English out right now (I don't read the novels, not yet anyway but I just know bits and pieces and I don't mind the spoilers) so his character isn't just gonna stay stagnant if you thought 'oh he's problematic' there's a 100% chance he's grown if the last time you read was vol 6 (for example). Plus Maomao too needed to voice out how she feels on ANYTHING when it comes to him. That's how you cultivate a relationship anyway, it's a two-way street, not a solo venture LOL

In the most recent volume, 13, Ah Duo tells Maomao that she is Jinshi's mother, and that his father is the emperor. Jinshi does not know this yet, and it is implied that Ah Duo has not told the emperor, either. So Maomao knows this as fact, but neither Jinshi or the Emperor do. She doesn't WANT to know this, but... Ah Duo didn't give her a choice in the matter. I disagree with your statements regarding Jinshi as always wanting to be in control. He wants to be in control of his own destiny, and wants Maomao as a significant part of it, but he doesn't actually control her, and he knows it. He finds Maomao a challenge, someone who is not susceptible to his charm and beauty, and as a result, he is able to be himself around her.
I can think of a lot of reasons how that'd cause chaos in the story but as far as I’ve known her, should’d love the chaos and will find a way to make it work
Hace tiempo vi un video sobre Jinshi que decia que acosaba a maomao y la obligaba a estar con el, ademas que era toxico y obsesivo (que????) y simplemente no pude entender su odio hacia el perosnaje de jinshi... Si es verdad que al principio de la obra el la trata asi, ya que estaba acostumbrado a tener todo lo que quisiera y que las mujeres quedaran encantadas por su apariencia, pero eso también provocaba que no lo trataran como una persona normal, es por eso que cuando conoce a maomao y ella lo trata como una persona normal le causa curiosidad (hasta la ve como un juguete), pero debido a su mentalidad piensa que es como las demas y que la puede conquistar con su apariencia, falla y empieza a verla como una persona (cuando la despidió del palacio interno para no obligarla a permanecer ahí por el) y amarla por quién es, incondicionalmente, conocerla mejor y aprender a amarla como se debe. No justifico su comportamiento al principio, pero me da rabia que lo tachen así, cuando el se arrepiente de sus errores y cambio mucho de actitud. Además, que ni siquiera se esfuerzan por ver sus burnas acciones y solo se centran en las malas.
Cabe también mencionar lo mucho que se ha esforzado por poder estar con ella sin que salga lastimada ni que tenga problemas, como cuando se hace la marca en el abdomen (literalmente se hizo una marca con metal caliente ☠️), cuando hizo de todo para vencer al estratega y pedirle que lo dejará casarse con maomao (y estamos hablando del MEJOR jugador del go y ajedrez, literal tuvo que darle panecillos con alcohol y prácticar con el maestro del rey)... Y así también hay otros ejemplos, perdon por el testamento 😓
I read it on Amazon Kindle. I do know it is available in print, though, as Amazon Alexa tried to get me to buy the print version of Vol. 13 before the Kindle version was available! Reading it digitally is less expensive than in print.
