- I’m back at Antiques On High and we’re looking at an original pen and ink drawing by Alfred Wainwright MBE (1907 - 1991)
It’s a rare drawing this - an original, signed by the artist and featuring Duffton Hill, just above the village of Duffton in Cumbria. The hill is described as a ‘Marilyn’ and as all my UA-cam videos are filmed as live, as they happen, we haven’t researched what a Marilyn is when it comes to hills!
Do you know what a Marilyn is? If so, let us know!

I don't know what it is a marilyn - I know lot of other stuff - love the daft video
This is from Wikipedia. “Marilyns are defined as peaks with a prominence of 150 metres (492 ft) or more, regardless of height or any other merit (e.g. topographic isolation, as used in Munros).[1] Thus, Marilyns can range from being mountains, with a height above 600 m (2,000 ft), to being relatively small hills.[2] As of April 2020 there were 2,011 Marilyns.[1]”
Beautiful picture and love the backstory.
Very good info, thank you
you're welcome David!
A Marilyn is a hill/mountain that is measured metrically and must be at least 150 meters high.
Apparently there are 1218 Marilyns in Scotland
Great info, thank you
Mariylns and Munros .. coincidence? (LOL)
Maybe a Marilyn is a Munro/Monroe ? 😉🤣🤣🤣
You might be right!
