Lyrics
Hang out the flags a new world order's on the way
Start singing now a song to greet the joyful day
Just when we thought the time was right for celebrating
with music of the spheres
What's this, another boat of fleeing refugees on a
sea of children's tears
Once more the sound of crying
Is number one across the earth
We're only men and women doing what we can
Sometimes I think that God is working to a plan
then other times I swear that he is improvising -
discordant and remote
Another orphan baby in failed uprising
another real bum note
Once more the sound of crying
Is number one across the earth
And if you're listening up there
you could consider this a prayer
Well who am I to tell you how to run your business
Man, you could strike me blind
What kind of noise we gotta make down here
Before we disturb your peace of mind
Once more the sound of crying
Is number one across the earth
Life's not complete, 'til your heart's missed a . . . . beat
I always loved that little skip in the music, clever fellah that Macaloon
LOVE!
Paddy was just a fad - good grief this 'music' is BAD!!!!😖👿👿👿👿👿👿👿👿
Can anyone explain why this band didn't become super famous? They are so good!! 💖 Steve McQueen is such a jewel! 💎
They did for us...X
In the 80's there was not internet. However, in the underground, indie world, Steve McQueen was elected the #1 album of that decade
Because they were like XTC. They had some beautiful, world-class songs which would rival the best of any band or songwriter. The lead singers (Andy Partridge from XTC) didn't care for fame and didn't want to perform live. Compare that to The Police and Sting who was a show-off and needed to be in the limelight. The record companies didn't make an effort to promote Prefab Sprout or XTC
they where protected by something, so that they will forever be loved by those who know them and never got tired of them.
Were they too earnest? Did their songs cut too deep? I know they did for me.
His voice is as good live as in the studio. Remarkable
He sounds exactly the same emotion and timbre on most songs - a sort of wet/precious/self satisfied/bloodless....................
@@bernardbaker6803 jlol wtf are you on about wet bloodless
@@infinite_pest Give me strength!🩳 DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT WET or BLOODLESS MEANS? PFS are THAT!!!!!
Paddy is one of the best and most underrated singer songwriters the UK has ever produced
absolutely!
Too right, and I can’t think of many today or since who can demonstrate such nimble, well crafted songwriting skills.

Hello
Without a doubt,brilliant paddy
This tracks always gives me goosebumps. Genius and timeless. 'Life's not complete till your heat's missed a beat...'
heart’s but yes.
The sort of people who thought the Hill Street Blues theme was excellence in music!!!!!
Good old paddy, brilliant lyricist,he’s up there with the best, the very best.
Damn he sings that just like the studio quality - impressive.
Impressive indeed.
Yes ; so , so , impressive . The Great Prefab Sprout !
its cute y'all think this wasn't mastered in post
@@infinite_pest Why doesn't she sound as good as the recording then? And you think it's autotuned in post? What's mastering got to go with his vocals? I work in music btw.
He sounds like in the record. Not only a great songwriter, but a great singer too. And he was so handsome.
And a very accomplished guitarist and musician overall.
Wendy's voice is adorable 🥰
Paddy's voice and timing are just perfect!
MAGISTRAL !!!!!:!
Exactly the same voice approach as most of their other songs..........
'Life's not complete until your heart's missed a beat' . I was 17 when this was big, now I have a 16 year old.
That Mcaloon can't write a tune, go and listen to some real songs soon!
Song from Heaven❤ Paddy's genius
Wow! His voice is stunning. Always thought there was so much production on their records, this shows his pure real talent. Not just one of the finest song writers but can do it live.
J'étais à l'armée en 1985 quand j'ai connu Prefab et je n'ai cessé de l'écouter 😍
I love this one. Wendy ❤
One of their simplest but most outstanding tracks. Takes me back 30+ years but seems like yesterday.
A masterpiece. But the name of the song is Goodbye Lucille (Steve McQueen,1985).
Goodbye Lucille #1 (there’s several “Goodbye Lucille” songs in the early Sprouts live set... most were never released)
Eigtees forever
If the official PS says it's Johnny Johnny then that's the way it is
even tho the whole GBYE Lucille concept it's way more interesting
It was called Johnny Johnny when it was released as a pre-album single, they re-titled it for the album.
his vocal control...so awesome
Prefab always take me back to 1985 and Love breaks down, for an 11 yr old kid my ears ears were starting to tune in to great music.
Great band. They were very underrated, but IMO they’re music and Paddy’s songwriting was fantastic. Every time I hear their music, I’m taken back to early 90s when I got really into them.
Anyone else here in 2019... and wondering where the time went❓
Steve - yes, and also wondering what happened to music as what passes today is utter garbage.
2020!
A journey to dust...
@@patcom1013 hahaha that is old people spech. You sound like my parents, then,
Out of time, bigger than life
I just love Prefab Sprout! HIs lyrics are so good - "you're still in love with Hayley Mills"
These guys should be household names but they are not because they are too good for this world.
Yes, I believe that too my friend!
Isn't the song narrating that kind of brilliance 😢
This comment personifies their po faced tiny fan following. Should be jettisoned form this world more like
anyday is a good day for prefab sprout...
Ooo Wendy, Wendy, Wendy....
Enigmatic!
August 2020 , disappointed I was to Young to appreciate.... Absolutely brilliant....
Don't worry, you didn't miss much. This period of music was post new wave sell out (what a pity after groundbreaking 77- 83 period) - they were the low point of music at that time - and largely forgotten thank goodness. ...
And I was still in love with Hayley Mills - since the film Whistle Down the Wind
one of my all time favorite bands in one of my all time favorite programs.....great performance !..I remember well that I was at a ticket office bying tickets for I think it was the Cult and there I saw a great poster from a concert coming up by Prefab.....and they didn't`t came around that often......greatly missed chance and never got to see them live. Paddy and Co are truly mesmerizing , unique and `one-of-a-kind` sound....their texts are something special too , this love affair is going on for almost 40 years now , and will last `till the day I'll die
Lucky they The sprouts were not there - The Cult would have beaten them up!!!
What a great voice Paddy has...
Love Wendy Smith. She's an absolute angel
Steve Mcqueen or Two wheels good, a slightly extended version of it with some extra jewels.
This band is a rare thing - brilliant, surprising and more creative than any other 80's band. along with the King Crimson 80's version. Love to hear them anytime. Sad that, living in Brazil, never could see them live.
His voice is amazing!!
Genius even with fantastic voice, the same live the same in studio that you can hear from your cd. No difference, just pure talent.
"Lifes not complete 'till your heart's missed a beat."
Calidad musical y armonía "Perfect" .... Saludos México...
ESTA CANCION ES GENIAL MUY LINDA, saludos desde Lima Perú
La elegancia y el alma...unidos en la música.💖✨
Thank you for the wonderful music. Always and forever.
Incredible. They sound (voice wise) exactly as the album.. I wouldn’t notice unless they did some particular note... impressive. Haven’t heard any new band doing the same as in their recorded albums ....
The dogs balls, one of the greatest bands that never got their just recognition, just totally feckin awesome!
I was fearing this could be a junk VHS rip (as it's the case with most old TV footage). Glad to find it's either from DVD or even the original professional videotapes.
Played this group often on my radio years... the best of British rock
ROCK? Limp lettuced simps affected pop - at best!!!
This is absolutely top class.
I only really got properly into the Sprout later in life, even though I was always aware of them.
Different gravy.
Steve, share your sentiment. Just seems like yesterday. Bring back more shows like the Tube for the sake of future generations.
aaaaaaaaahhhhh! im screaming!!! my heart is so crazy ! she is so beautiful!!!!!!
This is unbelievably brilliant
this is great, and a great vocal from paddy
Ancora oggi mi emozionano ❤❤❤
What a lovely song!!!!
Great band great songwriter.
I watched The Tube every week from the beginning to its last show and even went up to watch it live in the 90s
That is incorrect, I was part of the production crew, for the last 2 years and we finally finished on 24 April 1987. You must have been in a empty studio whistling. 😁😁😁
@@whi5tler_1337 but there was Millenium Tube, a one off in 1999 live from Studio 5 maybe that was it
From the best album ever...
Effortlessly cool. Wendy and Paddy.
Absolutely brilliant timeless
My favourite songwriters are Joni Mitchell and Paddy McAloon. Exquisite melodies and beautiful poetry
Best TV performance ever...
Oh my goodness Paddy’s voice blows me away. Then and now. Wendy is fab too.
this is magic
GEM 80's ....................... LONG LIFE TO NEW WAVE
Soma gift to British music, great song GREAT band
That voice!!! Mc Caloon rules!!!
just perfect n' amazing
Stunning
The beautiful Wendy Smith!
This was really good. They sang live to a backing track
MAGIC, GORGEOUS, WONDERFUL BAND
Brilliant
Linda musica!!
I can only tell you that the mid 80's Stock, Aitken and Waterman ruined the music scene which allowed a group like this to slip through the net. The worlds loss, but us in the know gained.
2021, Prefab Sptout forever.
Some track!
Car ils ne doivent pas être révélé à tous ,mais privilégié comme tout ce qui est de Valeur. 👼👼👼
Beautiful.
Hard to say how I'd react being in that room and hearing that voice coming out of Paddy McAloon.
Stunning performance from Paddy, but why were they singing over a backing track? My memory of the Tube was that everyone was performing live...?
There can be no contest indeed
This was titled "Goodbye Lucille" on Steve McQueen, right?
So brilliant
speechless superb
Perfeito!!
Some bands don,t get the credit they deserve. One of my all time favourite bands. Smartl lyrics and great music. Blame it on shite Boy and Girl bands of the generation. But Class Will out.
Exceptionnel....
Best karaoke ever
Stupenda ❤️❤️❤️
yes where did all that time go, you just could not make it up. Fifty three years of age and how did the time go so fast
Perfection.
better than those awfull beatles...really- 80s BEST decade to be alive...Paddy is pure art and genius....
Top!!!
Meraviglia
Beyond cool
very good vocal quality !
