Damn, sounds magical, but I think you owe yourself credit; the backing track allowed you a nice flexible platform to continually mess up, & try again, which we all know is essential to figuring out new technique. I'm a guitarist & lately, I've used this track to jam almost every day, because I can throw down a different bass line every time I play, (looper) & it becomes an entirely different jam track. There are multiple modes you can access over this & that makes it an essential tool until I've warn it out, which might be impossible.
@Principatus I'm a guitarist, so I throw down a bass line (PitchFork+Looper) every time I play it, then jam over that, & because it's nearly a blank canvas, depending on the bass line, I can practice multiple modes w/this one track. It sounds like a new track every time I play it, & I haven't come close to running out of new ideas. And I'm a composer, so I can, & do write my own backing tracks, but I keep this one in my library, & play over it often because it's so accessible, & it's fun to see how many different things it can become.
For anyone feeling particularly adventurous; This track is best thought of as being in G Maj, and you're doing a II/V groove. Thinking of it like this will make it easier to lock into the tone sequence regardless of where you find yourself. Then, once you've got the groove, you can then get adventurous and start shoving some chromatic runs, or even flip it up between G Maj and C Maj (so it becomes a VI/II groove) for some spicy meatballs (season with care, don't forget the hot sauce).
if you know your scales try to learn the shapes that connect them, theres tons of content relating to that topic. If you already know connecting shapes, then use them.
All of the notes within the scale are created equally. Some sound better in certain places than others. Try to work with each note individually, as well as in various arrangements in pairs, threes, etc. it’s more about what you do with a note than the notes themselves
Super boulot merci pour cette aide avec tres supoer backing ! petite question FMaj 7 OK avec G6 ? Merci d'éclairé mes lumiéres stp !!!!! Musicalement !
I understand some music theory I understand the relationship between minor and major But I'm a little confused why you play the a minor over the F major part Versus the adorian over the a minor part
@@romeou4965 What? Which tunes by Louis Armstrong,Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Lester Young ,Coleman Hawkins, Billie Holiday Basie, Ella, Charlie Parker , Dizzy, Monk Mingus, Miles, Sonny Rollins,Coltrane,Brubeck , Stan Getz, Jobim, Herbie Hancock , have no roots , or resolution. Please be specific.
@@sambac2053 why you putting jazz in a box? This track uses jazz chords and clearly has center around C major(or relative minor, Am). Just uses major 3rd with the D9.
@@romeou4965 First you say jazz is defined as having no center or root- now you say that the tonal center is implied by what you say are "jazz chords" ( as if no other style of music uses minor 7ths and dominant 9ths, or those could be exist without roots). But the tonal center implied is G. None of that addresses my assertion that it's not jazz because it doesn't resolve.
I would just try and keep it simple at first man and then at the end of the 4 bars add a little fill in and keep doing that until you get a feel for it then you can add more in. I am not the best at bass mainly a 6 string player but I have fun trying not to make it too complicated.

Sounds amazing even with no bass! The grease is there! The Nile Rodgers riffing speaks to me!
🙏🙏🙏
I give thee praise for this awesome track. Exactly what I was looking for, to exercise my humble chops and feel great joy. Mighty cheers!

Went to a jazz show and got really insecure about my improv ability, this is a great video for learning how to make up walking lines
I always listen to this tune to enjoy playing bass, very nice vibe!

So basically play notes from C major scale and occasionally throw in an F#
Try this for jazz funk feel:
F (Am), F# (D9) /////
D (Fmaj7), E (G6)
So helpful for practicing my funk riffing on bass, thank you!!!!

nice track. Thanks! It will be nice if in future videos you put some kind of heads up before harmony changes comes in. Better than counting measures.

I can't stop playing just up and down a scale, help!
if you know your scales try to learn the shapes that connect them, theres tons of content relating to that topic. If you already know connecting shapes, then use them.
Play less notes. Focus on the rhythm. Play root note with a rhythm. Add little solos/fills with the scales landing back on the one
Learn the minor and major pintatonic and just play the notes in a random order that feels right
All of the notes within the scale are created equally. Some sound better in certain places than others. Try to work with each note individually, as well as in various arrangements in pairs, threes, etc. it’s more about what you do with a note than the notes themselves
Try this for jazz funk feel:

It's a shift from G Maj to C Maj as the root in that section, which gives a little brightness with the key change

This ain't jazz, it never resolves.
That defines jazz!
No center/root
