  • Let's be real: the Lionesses struggled in their first game at the 2023 World Cup. Although Haiti and Melchie Dumornay played brilliantly, there are some serious questions for England and Sarina Wiegman.
    Chloe and Rachel discuss Ella Toone and Alessia Russo's form, whether it's time Wiegman sticks with ONE number nine, and more of changes that need to be made ahead of Denmark!

    The lesson to be learnt is that when you enter the final tournament every match is crucial and every opponent is equal.

    With the exception of Japan and Spain the first few games were rough with teams clearly a little rusty despite previous friendlies. The top seeded teams were playing the lowest rated and seemed to not heed them at all.

    • @ChrisBanda
      @ChrisBanda 11 місяців тому

      Yup, top seeded teams off to a slow start, we'll see how they adjust in their second game. The teams that can recognize their weaknesses and make the best adjustments physically and mentally will have the best chance of advancing past the group stage and possibly going further. I mean we have the example of the Argentine men's team last World Cup.

      That's not how it works. Styles make fight. In WC qualifying a few month ago, Haiti absolutely ran over Mexico. Destroyed them. Jamaica barely beat Mexico 1-0. When they played Jamaica, everybody had Haiti winning easily. Wrong, Jamaica abused to them tune of a 4-0 thrashing.

    England will be fine. The other two teams will have a much different dynamic. Haiti is a young inexperienced energetic team. Though also sneakily may have the most skilled player in Durmonay in the group. Englands defense wont have to worry about another player near that quality

    I don't feel this has anything to do with underestimating opponents at all. More likely, the strongest teams are not as strong as they believe and others are catching up slowly. Jamaica held France to a 0-0 draw. Argentina had Italy in check till the very end. Sweden's win against South Africa was more a consequence of self-sabotage by SA than Sweden's superiority.

    It feels like sarina really wants toone and Russo to be the starting 9 and 10 for the future and keeps persisting when James should be the 10. I have no idea why toone wasn’t taken off against Haiti. She needs to play hemp and Kelly on the wings James at 10 and then daly/Russo (I don’t really have a preference here)

    Milly Bright for England needs to retire. She's a rought player who plays to injure opposing players; she showed that in the last World Cup when she almost ended Alex Morgan's ( USA player ) by her style od playing. She is always out there to injure opposing players. A Red Card in the last World Cup and still continues to be rough in the pitch. Her mission is to injure opposing player.
    That is my TAKE on her !

    This breaks my heart because they are so much better than they were in the Haiti game. Back in the Finalissima in the first half they were incredible, I was so impressed with how far they had come. Then they came out for the second half and looked a completely different team and not in a good way. It isn't just the Haiti game, they haven't looked right for a while now. They have scored 2 goals in five games one from the spot. They still have all the ingredients to beat anyone but right now it just isn't clicking. I'm with most people in thinking Rachel Daly, Lauren James should start. LJ was one of the standouts against Haiti as well as Mearps of course. Ella and Less know what it takes to be impact players and they seem better in that role than they currently do as starters. Come on Lionesses and start to find some form. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
