The voices of Frasquita and Mercedes are excellent, really in place, full of tune and harmonies, almost like a studio version. There is so much contrast in that magnificent singing and the staging or outfits they are wearing! And for Carmen, Elina Garanca is of course on point, this is a role that she owns and could sing even in the middle of the supermarket, it would be stunning.
Je goûte fort peu ces transpositions au présent d’oeuvres iconiques qui ne satisfont que leurs auteurs, metteurs en scène déjantés. Dommage pour les grands talents de ce massacre Inepte à coup de Mercedes en ruine.
@@dougronald561 Hi Doug, Where to begin? I thought it might be an ego driven shit show on the part of the director, when Carmen made her entrance dressed as a gorilla, { an homage to Marlena Dietrich apparently} though what she has to do with it was not made clear. The chorus were made to sit on two banks of stadium seating where they waggled their hands at one another incessantly, a pointless and distracting piece of stage direction. the performance continued in similar vein with puerile an frankly amateurish stunts purely designed to reinforce the egotistical "Avante Garde" credentials of the director. The final nail in the coffin of the evening however came just before the final curtain, when Carmen having been stabbed as usual, { As an opera lover probably a blessed relief to her} was directed to spring lightly to her feet, wink at the audience and sashy off with her hips swinging. occasion to introduce a very good friend of mine to the joy that opera has brought me over the years, and as a result of this she will probably never go again. really blame the management of the ROH for buying the emperors new clothes from the idiot director, and staging a performance that would frankly be a disgrace to a church hall. PS the singing was probably good but I was so embarrassed at putting my friend through it that I really didn't notice. So if you fancy a night at the opera in London, Go to the ENO.
@@billskinner3426 Yeah, you convinced me that the production was way too off character for the opera you were listening to. I'm alright with a little experimentation, but not to that point.
terrible... everything terrible... full of ideas but missing the point as Maria Ewing said. Maria Ewing is the only real Carmen, everyone else are clowns

Splendide musique et superbe direction d'actrices !
The glorious french music delivering precious gems to one of magnetic mezzo with her classy color done to this repertoire. Delightful!
Очень бы хотелось посмотреть всю постановку, целиком. ❤❤❤
I laughed and cried in few minutes....
Thanks!
excellente version!!!!
Це Кармен?.. Чи дівки з Окружної? але співають ловко, втім - не досить духу додивитись "калікатуру" на класику.

Lovely voices...what a shame to waste their time performing in a ridiculous production.....wheres the authenticity?
If you think that's a ridiculous production you should see the piece of shit I sat through at the royal opera house in London.
@@billskinner3426 Why? What was the one in London like? Do tell.
