I've had the chance to talk to Matt Barnes over dm a few times over things that were big struggles for me as a new full time photographer. Although I kept things short, I appreciated the fact that he took any time at all to help me, some random dude, out with things that were a make or break scale for my small business. Such a great guy
Matt’s use of color and his interest in EVERYTHING-books, history, clothing, accessories is just inspirational on a creative level. Makes we want to make more intriguing, beautiful and offbeat things.
I love that this video is all about the images taken and nothing (only a minor mention of the R5c) about the gear that he was using to create those images. Using equipment that allows you to be creative is the key element. If that is the office your in, the camera you use or the props you coordinate, what supports your creativity as that lasts for ever. Love the message Pete looking forward to the videos for this year.

How invigorating this was Peter! Through this revelation of a video, I realized I’ve gotten so lost in the business and forgotten the personal art aspect of photography. I posses a self portrait and the feelings it invokes within me, so remarkable. This video has reinvigorated that feeling, I want yet so much more! My new aim will be to create more moments like that self portrait. Thank you for this Peter, I’ve been in the dark prior to seeing this.
To all of you struggling to figure out who you are... You know who you are already, you just forgot. Matt reminds me of the moment I remembered who I was and that transition took me from an Insurance Agent to a full time Freelance Photographer, pursuing my dream of getting paid to shoot. The dream gets bigger, but I am not writing this comment about that. I want you all to know that the person you are, is rooted in your child mind. I find far more in common with my mature adult self and child self, than the selfish and confused person I was in my 20's. McKinnon, wasn't the guy that helped me find myself, he was the UA-camr I came across when I was considering whether or not I could make it in this industry, that gave me the confidence and understanding to go for it. One of your better recent uploads Pete, they're all good, but this one ticks up a notch above the others.
My child like dream is to buy an old Bell 222A (1980's) and convert it to Airwolf, strap some sick speakers to it and make it howl when it takes off. Take it to monument valley for a sick photo session! Wait until you see what I do with my Cyber Truck

This video literally helped me so much. I'm self taught portrait photography. I got good at taking portraits but I wanted something more. I knew something was missing and I stopped taking photos. I realized the problem was that I wanted to express mys creativity with wild ideas but I was always scared too because I though it's not what people wanted to see. This video gave me to reassurance that it's okay to express myself and that anything is possible, all I have to do is dream.
I was lucky enough to have Matt as a guest speaker in my Photography class, his style and the photos he makes are awesome! getting to listen to him speak in person was great too..Epic vid!!

I can’t believe you interviewed The Matt Barnes. I had the opportunity to listen to Matt speak about photography as a guest speaker in my class and I was blown away by his creativity. Matt Barnes and Peter McKinnon. This is a combo I never knew I wanted, until now.
Photographers at the top of the "standard" industry, the ones that make the big bucks usually don't give a crap about cameras. They already know that the camera is not important. There is plenty of interviews with top photographers that they don't even remember the model they have or they still having models of 6, 8 years ago. If they need an specific feature, they rent what they need.

Thank you a lot for this video. I'm a real fan of Matt's work and yours, and after getting to Canada I'm waiting for one of these opportunities to sit and listen to the same histories. Maybe one day, who knows.
I love this video and had a huge smile on my face when Matt brought up Yousuf Karsh and how he is one of the, if not the most famous photographer from Canada. Then how Matt told the story of Karsh's famous photo of Winston Churchill when he was in Canada during WW2. I have loved and admired Karsh's work for ages and have his autobiography with a portfolio of a ton of him most famous photos from Winston Churchill to JFK, Jackie Onassis, Queen Elizabeth when she was still Princess Elizabeth, and more. I also checked out Matt's work and I am blown away and he along with yourself Peter is the level of photographer I want to attain and achieve one day.
This was so awesome, amazing space well captured . Reminds me of the film big when 13 year old wakes up as 30 something Tom Hanks and that’s what he buys, filling it with pinball machines and trampoline . So fun to keep that inner style. The photos are hyper realistic fantasy, crazy how there are photos and there are art photographer photos . Set up with lighting and scene etc
