Okay this was such a huge lifesaver for me! My computer has been shutting off randomly- sometimes up to 20 times per day, and was really affecting my productivity and patience. lol. I did some googling and concluded that the power supply in my 27" iMac must have been the culprit... so I found your video, and was able to get it fixed on Election Day, while I watched the returns come in. It's been two days since fixing it, and it hasn't shut off once- THANK YOU for this tutorial!! You saved me over $1000.

Tip: After adding the double sided tape to the computer case don't remove the last tape paper until you try the new power supply first, just temporarily tape up the screen until you test the new power supply or whatever you installed. If you completely seal the computer back up and the power supply or whatever you're changing fails you'll need to open up the computer all over again.
Apple wanted to recycle my iMac and even refused to open to confirm if the problem was the power supply or logic board. I got the power supply for 230rmb and it worked like a charm! Didn't need to remove the speaker to do the change tho. Excellent video to save old iMacs that need minimal fix to continue working! Thanks!
My screen developed a crack running the length of the screen corner to corner. During the initial removal, will this come apart in two parts and possibly cause further and catastrophic and irreparable damage to the screen itself? And finally, where csn I purchase replacement kit to facilitate this repair? Apart from the superficial crack, which I cannot see when powered on, the iMac was running as per usual. A few months back the iMac just decided to not work when I pressed the power button so I strongly suspect the psu is fried. Worse case scenario is I spend a nominal amount on the kit and it’s something else that fried but I’ll be able to retrieve the hybrid hdd and get me data off of it. Best case is it works again.
Great guide, worked for an iMac late 2013 that wouldn't turn on, replacing the PSU board did the trick. Note that if you have a fusion drive installed, you can't recover the HDD data using an external reader so replacing the PSU (unless the logic board also needs replacing) is probably the only solution
Could this be the reason my iMac just stopped working ? I've tried my power lead to start my other iMac, and used the cable from iMac no.2 to try and power up the non starter.... Still no luck... Was working fine until a few days ago.... God it's like loosing my arms and legs !
is the A2115 the same power supply? I can't find any difference in all the new shape iMacs. 2020 is very early for failure buts its blown the fuse in the plug and different cable doesn't power up either ,totally dead. id rather buy old psi as its cheap 300w???
Looks like a fun project geez. One thing I found out make sure you line the monitor Exactly even when putting it back together. The next thing sometimes after taking it apart for some strange reason it doesn’t want to boot up you might have to unplug plug it in a few times the it will boot up, not sure why that is so but is does.
Im having a buzzing noise in my imac 27" (2015) some times, in the lower left corner... could it be a fulty power supply? It comes and goes by itself It doesn't matter what I'm doing with the mac. Thanks
@@nadz336 Yes, I bought the power supply and everything but before replacing it I figured out the noise was happening only when I had a Thunderbolt external hard drive connected... so I unplugged it, switch to USB 3 and I didn't replace the Power supply
This worked great. Computer powered on. I’m just curious does anyone think continuous video editing with only 8GB of ram could slowly damage a power supply? It started when downloading videos from iMovie and then slowly did it continuously. Weird how it goes out.
Doesn’t sound logical to be honest. You’re either pushing the cpu and flu or not. Insufficient memory has no correlation to thr state of your psu, if anything, macOS will simply run sluggish when hitting thr memory limitation. If you’re having issues with the performance it could be due to a number of component issues including memory, gpa, cpu, logic board, and psu. Hard to say which but process of elimination will discover that. If you suspect your memory to be faulty, run memtest or max equivalent to see if it’s failing and swap it out,
everything looks Pro, except you didn't start it to prove it works after all ( just saying) however Thank you for the video as my first time to deal with imac this is very informative video

Amen in fact you can test it first before laying the tape down by just taping the top
How and where can I buy a replacement? my 2015 imac 27' has d same issue.
Excellent video. Now I am more confident in trying it out. Thanks.

Worked well for me. Thank you!
Excellent power supply installation guide. Thank you for your help!

I'm curious about your huge ring light in the background links to that and what you used in the video

I have a slight 2cm hairline crack on the low right part of display.. would this escalate or further crack the screen if I removed it?
Depends on how careful you are, but yes the chance of making the crack worse is there.
@@GRIBSOFT thx for your kind reply. When you run your finger over there’s no indication of the crack on the surface of the screen. Thx again
I sterted mac computer it does not start i m asking it is the fault of power supply bcz i on my computer without ups
Is it sensitive ?

I had the same thing happen to me on my iMac, and like you I don't why it does that it makes no sense..
Curious if this would be similar to an iMac 2007?

Nice instructional video. Thank you
I can’t unscrew them 4 screws on the power supply

Very useful I just stepped through this and replaced the PSU in a MAC here at work. Thanks again.
Nice job! This worked great on the 2015 Mac. Thanks for posting
great video :)
4:53. "You'll figure it out"?
Yeah, that was really helpful comment for a tutorial video on what was likely the most critical step!
Cool vid
Didn't show the reconnection of the speaker and power button!??
If youre not able to figure out the reverse part of that, i would def not perform any of this operation.

My imac won’t turn on at all
My car didnt start yesterday
