Acoustic guitar serenade for those who will listen .He 'talks to angels" in Virginia. Music to soothe the conscience and expose the damage. Summoning the good to make the planet heal.

One of my favorite songs ever. Check out the version from Radio City with Tim Reynolds. You won't be disappointed.

That version is great but the one they did on VH1s Storytellers was way better in my opinion and is what brought me back to Dave Matthews music!

Based on the content of the song, this is such a better way to perform it in my opinion. I love the Live from Central Park version, but it seems to goes against the song's meaning with the quicker tempo, and the dancing and cheering in the crowd like it's something to be celebrated.

Well nobody celebrating what happened, they’re celebrating being in the presence of one of the greatest writers and live bands of daves generation.

Watch any of the Dave with tim Reynolds performances. Especially storytellers. Only way to hear this song is acoustically

Same way I feel about Born in the USA - if you listen to the original demo on Tracks, it is a haunting encounter. The synth and rocking guitar and drums made it a stadium hit, but the original meaning felt more like a eulogy.

Summarize the content of this song for me please. Just need to calibrate accurately what I just heard.
This song is graphic and extremely honest.

Agreed... very real... raw emotion. Almost as if he was chosen to tell the story of all of those slaughtered for greed..

It's about the massacre of Native Americans by European settlers. The title is probably based on a passage from the Bible (John 4:13-14). “Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’” The Native Americans never got to drink that water.

interesting song, however, matthews suggests that God does not listen, when indeed God does listen, this happens when the writer writes what he does not know about, it leaves the simple minded to think there can be no help from Jesus, when in fact the opposite is true, if they ''grey'' person had of humbled themselves and sought God with an honest heart, the ''grey'' person surely would have been set free, there is freedom in Jesus, ask, and ye shall receive.
