I had one for years, a bright red one. I was stung and it actually wasn't bad. I freaked out and ran hot water under my hand for several minutes. For me it was similar to a bee sting. As you said though if you are allergic it could kill you. The only way to know for sure is to get stung... I agree with you about tank mates that were there before him. I had smallish clownfish and a female mandarin and there were no issues. The only fish mine ever ate was a wrasse bigger then the mandarin but the wrasse was added after him and I think he got him while the wrasse was getting comfortable.

You are absolutely right! There're shrimps in the tank also and the lionfish never touch them because they were in before :D

Loved the video and know how awesome these fish are as we've had one for 7 months now. We got our dwarf fuzzy lionfish weaned off live food in about a week, he now eats frozen silverside fish, frozen raw shrimp, frozen krill, and Hikari carnivore pellets. We also have a dwarf zebra lionfish living in the same tank as him which we've now had for 6 months. She only took 4 days to wean onto frozen food and eats all the same food except the carnivore pellets. We finally bought a fu manchu lionfish 5 weeks ago that we have in a quarantine tank and have now successfully got it to start eating frozen krill and frozen silverside, he'll soon be introduced into the tank with the other 2 lionfish. These are the 3 dwarf lionfish we wanted for this 55 gallon tank, next will be getting our 125 gallon aquarium setup so we can get a volitan lionfish again.

@@DesertRider760 our lionfish got fed every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Once weaned off live food I didn’t feed them live food any more and gave them something different each day, eg: silverside on Monday, Hikari Carnivore pellets on Wednesday, and frozen thawed shrimp on Friday. Once they got used to this routine there was no need to feed live food any more.

I just wanna point out that this species of lionfish in particular can actually be quite aggressive towards other lionfish. Especially the males.
They also love to jump! Should seriously consider getting a lid on that tank.

Hi Toby 👋 I seen a program on the tv 📺 years ago about lion fish, it’s owner got stung bad on her hand, and it swelled up to just over twice the size, she was in excruciating pain, it was gruesome to see.
You can never take your eye off them ever if you put your hands in the tank.
Very brave choice of fish, good luck mate. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Awwwww "MR swim shady" ❤️ he looks adorable as you Toby, the way you are looking for him..... where are you maaaaan!!! makes me laugh , it was so sweet. Definitely it’s a very cute fish with great personality. I want to tell you something, from the Mexican Caribbean Sea to Miami reefs the lion fish is now a plague out of control its a big depredator and is killing all the fish and invertebrates in this huge area. By now the us guverment have decided to kill all of them for their eradication that’s why the divers literally are hunting thousands of them. In the Mexican restaurants along the Caribbean it’s a new exotic dish, they learned to clean carefully and cook this fish in different ways. If you come to Mexico you must to try it
