You seem like really great parents. I know the video is about the hamster but a lot of parents aren't as interactive with their children these days. It's really nice to witness a family bonding over things like this. It is also very cute hearing how serious and excited you all get about this project.

I appreciate the fact that you care for your hamster enough to upgrade it’s cage after you realized it was too small. I had that same cage for my old hamster and I think it’s one of the best you can buy or make!

The hamster stuff is a lot of fun, but I just really love watching how this family interacts with each other. They are so sweet and encouraging and respectful.
You guys are amazing hamster owners! Thank you so much for taking good care of your hamster and listening to advice from comments. While I think it's really amazing that you guys are making such an awesome cage for Happy, I'd reccomend keeping things the same for a little while, and only changing things up every couple of weeks. This will help Happy feel secure and used to his habitat, and it should make it easier to tame. Thanks!

You guys should try and make a hole on the glass on the left side and make a tunnel down to more space!!! I have 3 hamsters and they have a giant habitat! Mine also has glass walls in some parts and the tunnel I have leads into a cage where he normally eats and drinks his water.
His setup is amazing and I love how you guys make new stuff for his cage and change his setup, changing his setup every once in a while keeps happy from being bored.

Please get him a larger food bowl as they like to sit in their bowl to eat. It's great as long as you put the same amount of food you normally would

To bend the wood, soak it in hot water for an hour or more until it is flexible, then clamp it into the shape you need until it is dry. You are fantastic with the wood crafts.
Sorry if I commented too late but I would recommend washing your hands with unscented soap because it helps remove any outside scents (like food) that could be on your hands that could encourage your hamster to bite.
To keep him entertained, you can shred toilet paper and scatter it around the cage (the shreds should be about an inch wide and 3 or 4 inches long). Then he can run around looking for the toilet paper and bring it to his nest.

Yesss! Whimzees are the best and they can be bought separately for about a dollar. My 3 hammies love them. I got some a week ago and my syrian finished hers and my dwarfs are halfway done. I'm sure happy will enjoy one.
He's living the High Life with all these fancy things that are homemade. Any of that hamster stuff you see at the stores those other ones this is much better
You can always get crickets for your little guy. They love hunting them.
I really like your cage and how you upgrade it. I saw and heard you say that your hamster bites. My hamster also used to bite me until I started to take him out of the cage each day and play with him 30 - 35 minutes. It really helped.
Two teaspoons of food is recommended. Dont over feed him. I saw full bowls of food. Hopefully you don't add this amount of food ever day. Add a teaspoon every bowl and scatter food is ok just remember dont add too much. Other than that your hamster is very loved. He might never be handled but that's ok if your ok to just see him enjoy his paradise. I do love his home. 💖 Also food that are mix and sold in stores are like giving your kid half nutritional so add some good greens and I know I'm saying so many don't but don't give him too many treats like the meal worms he might get overweight. Balance his feeding dont add every day, try every other day so he does eat all his nutrients. Lovely family

I am a hamster owner, 2 actually. I adopted one from the rescue center that was going to be euthanized. He turned out to be an amazing pet, friendly, social, loved to be handled, he would squeal until I took him out of the cage. He died after 3 great years, pretty well cared for in every way. I hesitated and a week later bought 2 more Syrian males. 90 inches of cages as they are separated. Your videoes inspire me to create a great living environment for them . Your both awesome and your son sounds adorable! Great videos, and your so involved in this with your little boy. The world needs more HAPPY STUFF like this. Thank you!
You can rub your hands on some tissue paper and put it in the cage so he can get used to your scent. I did this for my hamster so he had some extra nesting stuff and it was faster to tame him.
You are doing so well! The only thing I think could be problematic is the string for the swing. If you need string/rope for a hamster toy it's best to use sisal. Sisal is safer for if they try to chew it.
Also if you want to make your wooden builds waterproof, a hamster safe varnish is Plastikote, just brush a couple layers on and hamster wee won't be absorbed into the wood anymore :D

Hey guys! I just wanted to tell you a tip about the bitting so if you have too much stuff in Happys cage he might be biting you because he stressed so maybe try and take out some of his toys or whatever and see if he starts biting you again or if he stops a little bit so yeah!👍😁
Huh I haven't heard this before. My hamster prefers when there are lots of toys in the cage as it provides lots of shelter so it's less scary and stressful.
Actually, the exact opposite. Hamsters are prey animals they feel safer with the more things in their enclosure as it gives them the option to hide and run away if they need to. So the amount of toys is perfect 😊
Im pretty sure that Happy just wasnt handled when he was little so he isnt used to human hands being around him

I love the fact that, if you feel like a part of the cage doesn't work, you actually care enough about Happy to upgrade it so it works better and he prefers it

Something I recommend for you and happys bond to become bigger is bath time bonding. Put a blanket down in your bath tub and sit in with him and bond. For more info you should watch Victoria raechel bond with her hammy. Hopefully happy and you will have a amazing bond in the future! ❤️❤️

I love how u listen to your viewers!♡♡♡ n guys the bright lights surrounding happys cage hurts his eyes♡so if u could dim the lights down n maybe talk a little softer as not to scare happy cause he might get wet tail a sickness when hamsters are stressed.and wet tail cannit be cured♡hope you understand!♡♡♡
I noticed you guys still have the ladder which could cause bumble foot or foot problems so you guys could get somethings called bendable bridges and their great they can chew on them too. Just the be safe maybe put some moss or bedding in between big spaces.

One thing i did for my habitat fort is that I got some small size ball sea balls to fill in bedding space, so i don't have to spend a huge bunch on bedding material. You could use it between the pipes
I know its late but steaming wood works great most times. FOr something that small I guess steaming the twigg in a pot with a lid on (dont put it in the water) would work if given a few houers.

I’m not sure if you already know this but you can use aspen shavings for a natural themed cage as well!

I know I’m like late to this hamster malarkey, just a few tips for you, 1. Use non scented and non toxic toilet roll/paper. 2. Get some chicken wire and wood planks and make your own mesh topper UA-cam a tutorial on it, it should fit nicely over the whole enclosure this allows air flow, safety and you can even move the water bottle to be up top by putting it through a hole in the mesh/wire. Hope this helps you out, I used to be a animal management student so I know my stuff

No! If you put another hammy in that Cage, Happy would fight with them. Hamster's are Super solitary too. They will not get Depressed for not having a "friend".

He's probaby biting because she's feeling overwhelmed with all the changes that's happening, hamsters don't like change very much and a lots been going on for him since you got him with all the renovations. I suggest leaving things as they are for a good while for him to settle and get comfortable in his surroundings before you try any more taming. You can then start by putting some toilet roll that's been up your sleeve for a couple of hours into his cage so he can get used to your scent without any huge hands intimidating him. Then move on to hand feeding and once he is more comfortable you can use a mug or something for him to walk into for him to get used to the motions of being picked up. When he's happy doing that you can put some gloves on so you feel more comfortable and see if he will walk onto your palm with treats. It's going to be a long process as he's clearly very nervous and feeling threatened. 🐹

Whimsies are reallllly good! Just make sure you don’t get chews from a similar brand called Greene’s they can be harmful.
+@UC_RVotI0xW-wZq4q3jJPJvA is all really great i think , but if you see how he love to bite the strings , just make something like a ball made of strings ( similar to a cat's toy ) , because hamsters love to bite things , also hamsters love to stay hidden and surrounder by a soft surface , so he need a zone in the house were he can stay soft , comfortable so with the necessary space and were there is only a single opening to let him come in and out :)

Are you guys using the ikea detolf shelf as the cage? I’m using that for my hamster (which I got a couple of days ago!) and I want to make my hamster cage like yours (because it’s so amazing!) and I think that if I got a sand bath and used the book organizers to make a little cave that we could bond better. Also, what kind of wood planks did you use for the steps? I couldn’t find them online. You guys are so creative and you are my inspiration for my hamsters cage. What materials did you use to create your cage? Like how did you divide the sections?
