      Hi Doc!
I am 66 and have recently began using both (about a week) to avoid having my eyelid scraped again...not a pleasant procedure.
I have been trying to do warm moist compresses at least twice daily and thorough washings with soap. It seems to almost clear up, but never quite goes away.
My eye Doc said I would not be able to scrub my way out of this problem and he appears to be right. After I had the eye scrape procedure on the lower lid, I cleaned my eyelids and used warm compresses regularly, but the infection reappeared on my upper eyelid - despite the daily cleansing routine.
So I have bought the eye wipes and the spray HypoChlor, hoping that the combination will help.
Additionally, I am on an antibiotic for a bladder infection ( Cephalexin) 4 days now - maybe all the combinations will help. Though I don't think I will be able to avoid another eyelid scraping...Alas.

I've been getting chronic blepharitis for the past three years on and off. It's all about having a hygiene routine to keep your eyelids clean. I use the ocusoft cleansers morning and night, and use the heat pad occasionally. I also use thera tears for my dry eyes once a day as well.

@Stateless. You're very lucky that it's blepharitis and not Sjogren's Syndrome. It's a lot harder to have the immune system attacking the tear glands 100% of the time with no relief than it would be to have blepharitis. The worst part for me was when I was misdiagnosed as having blepharitis instead of Sjogren's Syndrome. I ended up in the ER in excruciating pain from the ointment that's used for blepharitis!! I use Restasis drops every day. The only brand of artificial tears that I can use is Thera Tears, but I have to use the vials- not the bottle. If I accidentally put my finger on the tip of the bottle, I can easily get an infection. That did happen to me. That was a nightmare because my eyes DON'T tear when I get anything foreign in them. It took a month for my eyes to get better. I had to have other people lead me around because it was too painful for me to open my eyes. NO ONE can possibly know what I'm going through every day with my immune system attacking my tear glands 100% of the time unless they go through it themselves.

You might have oxalates in your eyes. I suffered for years and didn't get any relief until I changed my diet. Most chronic ailments have their source inside the body. Most doctors will just tell you blepharitis can't be cured, only managed. Not true.

@@ogun9645 You won't like my answer, but I started to eliminate possible problem foods. I had already eliminated sugar, but then I gave up wheat and dairy. When I read that histamines and oxalates can be problematic, I eliminated those too. What really jump-started the healing was a three-day fast, followed by the strict new diet. What keeps me going is the result: relief for the first time in years. I now eat some goat and sheep milk products without a problem. I think you have to find your own solution, and I don't discuss it with other people, who find it extreme and implausible. Trust your body! Good luck.

I really appreciate these videos! I've had blepharitis for over two years, and it took me awhile to get a handle on it. Advice from others suffering from it has been my best defense. My new optometrist has been helpful in affirming my methods to be working. An allergy doc gave me the idea of using John Paul Mitchell shampoo on my lids when I shampoo in the shower. It is refreshing, but must be careful not to get inside the eye! I also use Ocusoft lid scrub Plus which is a leave-on formula wipe in the evenings. When I'm having a flareup, I also use cliradex eye wipes, which also comes in a foaming cleanser form. Both are effective for me. It is all expensive, which is sad. Since warm eye compresses have also helped when I see swelling begin, I'll be getting one of the microwave eye masks. I'm also going to try the hypochlorus spray that this doctor suggests. Why did I not think to seek info here first? This eye condition is a tough one to manage, so thought I'd toss my two cents into this feed. Good luck, everyone!

Very Interesting!!! Thyroid conditions are related to dry eye, primarily it can be due to proptosis and exposure issues, but there is also an issue where the autoimmune cells attack the lacrimal gland and cause inflammation, which can shut down the tear production.

I've been diagnosed with it today, in fact, the optician said I have three different conditions, the Blepharitis has caused Conjunctivitis and one of my lower lids has turned outwards. She said, that if it doesn't rectify itself in the next couple of weeks, then she will have to refer me to the hospital for an operation. She didn't say what would have caused the bottom lid on one of my eyes to turn outwards.

Can you speak to seborrheic blepharitis? I have difficulty finding treatment. Recently I discovered Vanicream with Pyrithione Zinc 2 % shampoo which i use on my head and eyebrows. This surprisingly really improved my severe dry eye by 50 percent. I suspect I have been reinfecting my eyes when I shampoo with regular shampoo. Your opinion? I did also discover a journal article on Seborrheic blepharitis which said it was under-diagnosed. I would like to learn more.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  Рік тому

Hey thank you for asking! I agree too, that seborrheic blepharitis is underdiagnosed. It is something often seen, but sadly it kinda gets brushed under the rug in a lot of healthcare settings. Not that it isn't a big deal, but blinding eye diseases often trump it, along with other dermatological issues or ocular surface diseases. For a lot of people, proper eyelid hygiene does the trick, it sometimes takes awhile to find the right treatment (trying different eyelid washes/scrubs). Some people need antibiotics and/or steroid creams. There are some publications on using dandruff shampoos on the eyebrows and eyelashes but from what I can remember off the top of my head, it was diluted in those studies for fear of eye irritation or fear of causing damage to the oil glands. I will see if I can find that study again and try to get back to you. Either way, happy to hear it has helped your dry eye so much.

My ophthalmologist/neurologist never really told me about the sprays he did tell me about the wipes but he said the sprays wouldn't work and if there's nothing you can do to condition the eyelid which is what I thought would help. He just told me to alternate warm and cold compresses and to use these eyelid scrubs which I didn't really care for the kind of rubbed up my eyes and made them worse so I think I tried to use Cetaphil face cleanser and just using my fingertips cleaning around my eyelids and by the eyelashes but he just told me that this is something you get as you get older like there was nothing I could do about it. I'm glad that you suggest all these products and things to be used. I also have optic neuritis which the doctors can't figure out how I got but they tested me for Ms and I tested negative so now I'm just on medication to lower my immune system. I'm blind in my right eye and my left eye has decreased vision. I'd like to ask if these products are safe to use on eyes with optic neuritis? Thank you

I have a question: I've had Blepharitis for several years now, and I used to do that massage everyday (most of the time with my lids pre-warmed) and then wash my eyes with special products (as my eye doctor said), but now the skin on my lids have lost elasticity, and I have kind of hooded eyes all of a sudden when I never did and signs of aging (I'm 26, and that had never happened before). That isn't as bad as the fact that I feel like I gave more space to sebum to stay, so my eyes got more and more swollen and worse, so I stopped doing that massage, now I'm better than I was, but as you can imagine I'm not okay, and I was going to see my eye doctor last month, and the virus hasn't let me, What can I do?
    Thank you very much!!
P.S. English isn't my mother language, so sorry if I made any mistake.

You know those little bean shape things you sometimes feel under your skin, the two above my eyes exploded one day and no one has been able to help me. They told me it’s cosmetic and to live with it. But, at some point, my body recognized something foreign and sent inflammation to that area to protect it. I’m interested in the underlying cause to treat t not a quick bandaid. Any suggestions? These videos have been very encouraging - thanks for taking the time to produce and post them. The only OTC product that had been helping was TTO containing I Lid n'lash plus wipes for my blepharitis. Even so, one lower lid (right) was still a prominent problem. I ended up trying topical metronidazole (1% cream) and it has finally cleared things up for me.
I put a very thin layer of cream on the space below the eyebrow (but not on the eyelid), on my eyebrows, and one stroke under the eye (at the bottom of where 'eye bags' would normally be) once a day (AM). I have Ocular Rosacea, with mild impact on my face from time to time (which would be more if I didn't watch my triggers vigilantly). A dermatologist had prescribed the cream to put in a thin layer on the lid lash line in order to treat a very long-standing chalazion. Yes, he warned me not to get it in my eye. (That treatment did not shift the chalazion, by the way). I opted to try the orbital application after reading a case report about a 12 year old child who put topical ivermectin on her peri-orbital area and got good results (that's not something I would try). I've seen a great outcome with my blepharitis within 24-36 hours of the first application and it has been getting better each day. I'll be returning to my derm soon and I'll discuss this application with him. My OR has felt so much better that on two days I forgot to use my restasis in the morning!
