Today has happen terrible things to be a sad day, but then out of nowhere my local radio station of MEXICO played Time Stand Still after Paint it Black! It has been a year or more since I’ve heard a rush song in the radio 🥹
In a recent interviee, Geddy named The Garden as his favourite out of all the songs on which he'd sung. Another song where IMO he used his voice to great effect is Manhattan Project from Power Windows, where he did a slow build towards the climax in the third verse, and then hit a crescendo and came crashing down, like waves on a shoreline. I found your selections quite interesting, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with next. 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
Very nice video! I totally agree with your rank, but I would add his last two recently released songs called "The Lost Demos"... I was really surprised with them. Geddy's voice was so sweet and powerful at the same time
I was drawn to Geddy’s voice from the get go! Always felt his tone was the PERFECT sound for a 3 piece band where all 3 players, guitar-bass-drums are all lead instruments!! So his voice is a fourth lead instrument, imho✌🏼🙏🏼❤️🇮🇱
I agree, you picked out some good ones. You either like his voice or not. My wife hates his voice and still went to a concert with me and my work buddy and his wife. LOL I will never forget it. My buddy and I had a hoot. Glad to see your channel is still hanging in there. Keep up your great content and I'm going to go listen to the garden right now. Haven't heard it in awhile.
great list! ive loved Rush since the late 70s...my sister was also a huge Rush fan...the song i had played for her at her wake was " Tears"...my brother George passed in 2019...I had " The Garden" played at his service...They both loved Rush...I was quite happy with my choices..I do believe The Garden was the PERFECT last song for this AMAZING band we ALL loved...😊🎸
Firstly, condolences to you and your family. But yes, “The Garden”, my goodness, what a perfect bookend to a great band, a great musician, and to our dear loved ones. I rarely listen to that song because it just breaks me every time.
No One On the Bridge was always my quintessential example of "screechy Geddy." In college (early 80s) a buddy and I actually got written up in the dorms for singing that one at the top of lungs. But we DID sing it worse than Geddy.
Soliloquy from 2112. The Sphere at the end of Hemispheres. Cygnus X-1, pushing his limits. I agree on the Camera Eye. Making Memories from Fly By Night. Need Some Love from the debut album. Available Light is a great call. Emotion Detector. Open Secrets. Cut to the Chase. Oh, I forgot, everything he sings.
Just a quick correction: the acoustic guitar on Rivendell was actually played by Geddy, not Alex. Alex is playing those volume swells you hear in the background on electric guitar.
When he was young his voice was shrill and difficult to tolerate. But listening to him age and continue to try to hit those high notes and come out flat all the time was really brutal.
When I saw the title of the vid I thought of My personal fave of geddy singing in his mid range beautifully. Second Nature off Hold your Fire I think might be his best technical vocal imo. He sings that song simply beautifully.
A good list. The garden is good but just too painful to listen to. A recent personal favorite of mine that hits me every time is the second verse of the anarchist: Find the blood inside this Stone...
Ur highlighting a lot of songs where he’s straining his voice. I was expecting more mellow songs with ‘emotion’ or something, like the word ‘pause’ in ‘Losing it’ or some more songs from the synth period or after.
@@AllAboutRush: you like his high voice. Interesting that his voice is so processed on ‘Hold Your Fire’, their best album. I actually like Hemispheres and Kings best but I rank HYF 3rd sometimes. GED’s voice is processed a bit on the song, ‘Fly ByNight’. They were real pioneers. I suspect he tries to be emotional or something.
Rivendell and Thai Shan quite frankly, are the only two songs in the entire catalog that I cannot stand in anyway. It’s not because of the vocals either.

I’m glad something appeared to cheer you up! 🙂

I decided to stay within the Rush context, but thanks! 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks for ‘sticking it out’ Robert! 😎

@@AllAboutRush agreed...its an incredible song...Neils lyrics were masterfully written ...a PERFECT song...Thank you for your kind reply🙂
Some of My favorites:
Time Stand Still

Show Don’t Tell
Great insightful analyses ! Thanks ! 🎤🎸🥁🎹🎸🎼
In deed the camera eye in headphones we hesr how good it is
Great critique of geddys voice , and a great choice of songs
Rivendell....Geddy on the acoustic guitar, Alex doing the volume swells.
Noted 😉

“The Sphere” & “Emotion Detector” - good calls 👍🏻
Cygnus X-1, pushing his limits. If true, Cygnus X-1 must be something to listen to.

Yes, you are correct 👍🏻 👍🏻

I go into some of that in my “How Good was Geddy Lee as a Singer?” video 😎
thats what "Losing It" is all about!🙂
When I saw the title of the vid I thought of My personal fave of geddy singing in his mid range beautifully. Second Nature off Hold your Fire I think might be his best technical vocal imo. He sings that song simply beautifully.
That’s a very good one, yes
I personally think Ged hit his best voice on GUP to Power Windows, but I still love it all!!
I would include “Signals” in that stretch 😎

Yeah, the song is painful, but I think it’s one of Geddy’s most well sung songs, so I had to put it in there 🙂
Ur highlighting a lot of songs where he’s straining his voice. I was expecting more mellow songs with ‘emotion’ or something, like the word ‘pause’ in ‘Losing it’ or some more songs from the synth period or after.
I actually don’t think he’s straining his voice in any of the songs in this list. 🙂

@@magicsinglez I wouldn’t say I like his “high” voice; I just like his voice in general. 🙂
Geddy Lee is a very good rock singer. Not among the greats but certainly a far cry from bad.
Facts 😁
If you don’t like his singing don’t listen to it
Rivendell and Thai Shan quite frankly, are the only two songs in the entire catalog that I cannot stand in anyway. It’s not because of the vocals either.
Neither song would make my top ten, but they are very well sung songs. 🙂
Can I recommend that you stop talking for at least a second while the song is playing??
Noted!
If you don’t like his singing don’t listen to it. I still don't like his voice..
Ok FINE! 😄
I still don't like his voice.
Yup, I did mention that if you don’t like his voice, really can’t change that. But I give him that he can sing. 🙂
Most girls dont
@@youtoo2233 yes it's mostly just nerdy teenage white boys with back acne who like it.
@@TopShelfMontana lol nah, even as an 80's teen Rush fan I never had acne
Geddy would sneak lines of blow during the concerts until the Permeant Waves days, could attain to his reckless singing in concert.
Yeah, you’re an expert
Well Mr. Professor, he just said he did in an interview last week, piece of shit.. @@vinnydepasquale3207
