Guys, it is the STABILISERS. There are two massive great fins below the waterline that are mechanically put OUT like the wings on an aircraft, once the ferry leaves the harbour. FINS (stabilisers) are brilliant at stopping folk become sea sick. But every skipper in CalMac has a BIG wooden sign (as well as all the electronic kit) on the ship's wheelhouse/bridge saying "FINS IN" or "FINS OUT" because a ship cannot berth with the FINS OUT (if the skipper tried, there would be a quarter of a million pounds worth of damage to the deployed fin as a pier "nudging" a fin would cause a huge amount of damage). So just before berthing at Ardrossan Harbour, the Master or Helmsman will RETRACT the FINS (stabilisers). The result is a "wobble." The problem here is a sharp turn to Starboard and a large sail (windage) area that MV Caledionian Isles has, amplifies that fin-wobble! The manoeuvre looks spectacular, but CalMac skippers are VERY skilled and the "FINS IN" wobble soon subsides. Hopefully this helps understand what was going on here.
