Man when his hits are clean they are some pretty hits. Just wish he hit clean more often. A lot of late late hits, hits from behind, and leaving his feet before contact. Never understood why he rides that dirty edge when he's shown so many times his clean hits are just a brutal but with no suspension or fine repercussions.
Because: it doesn't look this way on TV but the game is crazy fast when you're on the ice. You either go out looking to play like Wilson, or you don't. A lot of guys turn, or do something other than what he anticipates, and that's the result. Not a caps fan btw, just a fan of the game.
@@thewoodsareburning5627 Trust you don't need to try to explain hockey to me my guy lol but my comment still stands, and speed of the game has nothing to do with some of his brain dead decisions on some hits when we can clearly see him hit cleanly and be just as devastating.

Right? That hit on Marchessault on the 2018 SCF is a prime example. HNIC was immediately foaming at the mouth over it. The next game; they were going on about it being late and predatory. During the broadcast; they put a stopwatch on the time Marchessault dished the puck and when Tom buried him.. ...it was 0.4 seconds after. They were just like..uh, so it's not late. That's a legal hit. It got so quiet and they just kind of milled about til the next commercial break. It was amazing. The crybabys got pacified on live T.V. and were just dumbfounded.
Wilson is such a good skater for being such a massive guy. It makes for a dangerous combination when you're not paying attention to who's on the ice. Most of his hits, the opponent is bent over and lowered. Wilson is already a big guy and he explodes through his checks. Remember the rules allow you to leave your feet after contact is made. There's some dirty and unnecessary hits in there too but a lot of them are just the result of size difference, turning away from the hit and not paying attention.

My goodness... these players cannot take a big hit these days. They all lay on the ice, taking out their mouth piece and look for the ref for a penalty..
I think it's the other way around: the reason people complain is because the NHL went soft 25 years ago in an attempt to pretend it's not a violent sport. If someone gets hurt, the league thinks someone has to be suspended for PR reasons. This way the blame is placed on a player for doing something wrong... instead of operating with the understanding that HOCKEY IS VIOLENT.
ua-cam.com/video/V1_vTTRa1uA/v-deo.html "he did not leave his feet" Give me what they are taking, must be some pretty strong shit. Only reason a team would want him is so they wont need to play against him, risking your players safety.
90 percent of those hits were dirty. Late hits, hits from behind, targeting the head, blindside hits, leaving his feet, borderline charging calls. This man is an absolute menace. His goal is to hurt people and he doesn't deserve an ounce of respect.
Honestly I don’t think he leaves his feet too often before the hit. I’ve watch quite a lot of Caps hockey and it seems to me that many times his feet only leave the ice due to the momentum of his hit, and it happens after he has already hit someone. It feels like it’s a case of “looks worse than it is”
All of these hits piss me off so bad. I play as a defenseman so I have some nice opportunities for some pretty huge hits. But some things I'm always told is to watch your speed, only hit when the player has the puck, never hit from behind, and never leave your feet. Wilson follows absolutely none of these rules. He starts sprinting as soon as he sees the guy and never stops moving his feet. He hits players long after they move the puck. He elbows people in the back and leans in on their numbers with their face against the boards. And finally, every single one of these hits, he jumps at them (and in many of them, he clearly aims for the player's head with his stick, hands, elbows, shoulder, ec.) He is quite possibly the dirtiest player in the league when I comes to hits. This is NOT how you hit. If you do this, especially at a lower level, you will get penalized and likely suspended multiple games.
