Well done! A low key interview that allows the interviewee to think and talk without being "on" but natural and real, instead, like a focused conversation rather than talking points.
Sorry, NOT well done. It's obvious this was cut together from two separate shoots. The first was Yumi with the blogger asking questions off camera. The second was the blogger repeating the question for the camera. It doesn't flow well. And if you zero in on the audio, the differences between room ambiance is very noticeable. Not at all "natural" or "real" to me. Nevertheless, I appreciate the interview. I'm a new fan and hope she decides to tour the US soon.
@@lightonstillwaters6789 I produced corporate videos for a living. Good editing is when people don't notice it. Single camera interviews were common. It's how to bring it together seamlessly that makes it or, as in this example, breaks it. Cheers!
Thank you so much Yumi! As an Asian American woman, you have definitely achieved your goal in empowering me these past few years! I would love you to be casted on SNL! That would be amazing! Love that your goals are super high, because then you will be that much closer to reaching them! I appreciate you so much and wish you all the success!
Really nice interview. I just discovered her thanks to UA-cam recommendations, weird. That statement about how we are here to be heard and not here to fit in was a surprisingly remarkable philosophy on life and our existence. Thank you for this.
Yumi is absolutely an original. What strikes me most is that her naughty schtick she sometimes presents, isn’t at all inappropriate, because the innocence and humor in her voice wins out over any perception of obscenity. What a delight!
Great start to your comedic carear Yumi, and insight from this video into your mind has moved you to my #1 spot of japanese women i like. Love from Australia
That bit about how she goes to museums and art institutes before a show to understand the history and culture of a foreign audience sounds so strongly like Thrawn from Star Wars, and how he studies a peoples' art and music to know who they are and how to conquer them.
She is very articulate. I am so sick of black comedians harping on racial injustice, white comedians just focused on sex and Latinos focused on immigration... She brings new material.
16:28 her routine probably doesn't work at all in Japan, she leans heavily on the japanese stereotype of a shy and submissive girl with her mannerisms and quirkiness, i would also assume that she does her set in english, because basically she would have to rewrite the entire joke and change the whole pacing and timing, because of how much faster she would be speaking in japanese, the extremely different culture, sense of humor and the fact that english and japanese are fundamentally so distant in it's language structure.
I guess Villasenor being on now could help open the door for her, but given how they've misused her, I tend to agree that Yumi could do better. The problem is, there isn't much else. She and Villasenor and Leslie Jones should start their own show.
She reminds me of Andy Kauffman. I had always wondered if she was playing a character, like Andy, but her conversation makes me think that she's not putting on as much as I might have thought. She's very funny and has spectacular timing.
Yumi is exactly what the world needs more of... I just hope she doesn't cater towards feminists ideals. Empowering women is great, but building upon feminism is toxic. Cater to everyone and Yumi will lead women with her talent.
I thought the interviewer was just fine, he was kinda laid back and chill and Yumi was out of character sorta and just being herself. So I kinda liked the feeling of the interview and how it went.
Yeah, she is right about Vancouver. We are uptight, especially with covid. Got people walking around without masks freaking out on people for wearing masks that get too close. xD
I'm sorry if it felt misleading. She is female and Japanese. I asked her how she does what she does. It was shot over a year ago I believe. I'm going off of memory. Everyone has their process and what works for them. We are trying to inspire others to go for it by promoting other people who are and are doing it. Just put yourself out there, keep writing and getting in front of people. Use social media at scale. There is no exact blueprint. Create your own. She def gave some good advice as far as what she does on the road and to prepare. We try and I'm sorry if we have fallen short. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. ❤. It wasn't my best work as I was ill. But we tried haha.
@@WhatsYourStoryVancouver My comment was supposed to be a joke, see because I'm a guy and I'm white. No matter how hard I try I won't ever become a female OR Japanese, but the title of the video says how to do it. I wasn't making fun of the video, I was making fun of myself. But even if female and Japanese is impossible to aspire to, I probably won't ever be the last thing on the list which is a comic. Not only was my joke not funny, you didn't even know it WAS a joke. Not a good sign! Thanks for the sincere reply and I love Yumi! One of the funniest new comedians I've seen in a long time.

Very good interview! now i'm gonna say something i didn't like but it;s not for trolling at all, just some neutral advice...viewers come to see Yumi, not the guy interviewing. Now it's totally normal to give an introduction (even then, the camera is way too uncomfortably close) but throughout the interview, cringy to show him ask the questions everytime in a close-up. If you really wanna to be in the spotlight then maybe put the camera where we can see both at the same time the whole time.
Thank you for the feedback. It's appreciated. Def not my greatest interview haha. I was hit with a case of vertigo which I am still dealing with. As far as the camera work, we were dealing with limited space. The show is definitely a work in progress and we continue to learn and adapt and evolve. Again thank you for the feedback and for watching. We love the support! Have a great day! :)
@@Osiwan960 thank you so much my man! That really means a lot to us! Please keep watching and giving feedback. Throw a question or two our way even. Much love and have a great 2019!
Another part of what makes it disconcerting is that the cameraman broke the 180-degree rule. In a dialogue scene between two characters, a straight line can be imagined running between the two characters, and extending to infinity. If the camera remains on one side of this line, the spatial relationship between the two characters will be consistent from shot to shot, even if one of the characters is not on screen. Shifting to the other side of the characters on a cut will reverse the order of the characters from left to right and may disorient the audience.
@@brentcrude8153 thank you for that tip. I appreciate it! The space was tight which might have affected what you described. Always learning :). Thanks again for watching
