My bug is similar - a 1965 12V conversion. I liked seeing Rita's interior and hearing your musings about gauges. I have an old Sapphire radio in mine. It doesn't do anything, but I guess it looks kinda cool. 😎
I'll tell you, the CB 2280 is an AWESOME cam for smaller engines and or where you don't need 6000 rpm and want to have a snappy not soggy low end. I've used a few of them. I despise over cammed VW engines, seems like it's done all the time
@@wickedwerks No, they just go in and out of stock quickly. They've been easier to get lately. I got one a month ago for my next build and had it in a week or so. You can use their #1512 lifters. They're cheap and work great. Make sure to de burr the cam. Last one i got you could shave with!
Really like your bug! So the original engine is a 1200 originally? Did the mexico 1200s have a cam with bearings? Id love to do it to the mexico in my car!
Yes the original engine is a 1200 and that’s correct, I believe later model Mexican market 40hp engines had cam bearings. I believe the serial number starts with D. You can confirm on thesamba.
@wickedwerks perfect thanks! So what heads should I use if I wanted to do this and does the case need to be machined at all?? It's originally an LS car so should have a 1600 is it worth the hassle building it up or just getting a 1600 short block and building it from that? Sorry I'm a motorbike guy so I don't know huge amounts about vw engines
@@lucadumbrell if you want to build the 1385 like I have, it’s worth getting 1300 heads. Bigger intake valves and allows you to use dual carbs. A 1385 will always be less powerful than a 1600. It’s only worth it if you just want to have a weird engine. If you want power and reliability, 1600s are better.
I think the gauges I got from Summit but the senders didn’t work out for the space I had so they never read correctly. I think I want to get a gauge set from Aircooled Accessories or ISP West. The cluster though is by FastFab. Installs without having to cut up the dash
At the time, I believe I used gasgacinch. I’ve since switched to Curil T by Elring. My worry with the cam bore in these cases is that it’s a different diameter than later style cams, so it may not physically fit.
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle that’s what I mean, I don’t know if they are. I assume there’s a difference between the diameter of a cam belonging to a non-bearing case compared to that of a bearing case. Haven’t had a chance to look.
@@wickedwerks The cam specs might be in the without guesswork pre-67 manuals. I tried to look up the diameters, on my service manuals & online with no luck. Better off measuring camshaft case bores on early & later cases. Good luck
@@wickedwerks IIRC (very possibly not!) The cam journals are the same and if you want to add bearings to the case it needs to be machined. Like I said I could be wrong, been forever since I worked on that early of an engine. Should be easy to find the specs
Time to set up a Patreon account…. Wouldn’t the community be willing to give a little to make some of these changes happen if corresponding videos were made??🤔 I think so…
Believe me, I’ve thought about it. I feel like having a patreon would only be worth it for subscribers if I was able to provide daily/regular content they don’t see anywhere else and I already struggle to find things to put on IG every day. Rach and I are planning something really dumb for next year, if it doesn’t work out, I’ll have the money to dump into Rita. Thanks for watching. ✌🏻
Ahhhh, I needed some VW mechanics this morning...Thanks. This old man salutes you with a cup of coffee from the couch.
Thank you sir, be well and happy holidays ✌🏻
Happy New Year to you all! 🎉 thanks for all the fun 👍🏻
A lovely specimen. Nice work assembling that beaut! Looking forward to seeing the developments as they unfold!
Great video! I learn something every time I watch your videos!
Thanks for watching!
Happy new year sir. 🍺
Love that 911 wheel!

I’d love to grab a 2280, I’ve only ever heard good things. But they always say out of stock; are they made to order?

Great video and camera work! Subscribed.
Thanks for watching dude!
Amsoil yeah buddy
Spoiler: looking forward to putting this gauge trio in Cora!
Random question, what phone mount is that you have fastened to the handle on the dash?
I can’t remember the make and model, but it’s actually designed to be used on motorcycle handlebars.

Amazing video as always. What size tires do you run?
Stock! 185/65/R15. I’d like to get some wider tires in the back at some point
@wickedwerks Thanks. I got the same wheels and some smooties for my double cab, but I have no idea what size tires.
@@michaelmenough9469 might be different for a Bus, also make sure you get a light truck rated sidewall. Cuts down on the body roll

Which sealant do you use on your engine cases? Engle makes a w90 cam and Scat makes a C20 cam.
