They mentioned an earthquake a couple of times. I wonder if they're referring to the North Palm Springs quake of July 8. Three moderate earthquakes hit southern California that month, but that particular tremor seems like it would be the most widely felt.
I also wonder if the lovely Kimberly, or her boyfriend, ever bought that Bronco.
THese shows taped on 7/7,7/8, and 7/9. The Showcase winner on I believe the 8/21 primetime episode was from SW PA, and the local paper in the town he lived in did an article on his appearance, a couple weeks of so before it aired, mentioning how much he won and a couple of his prizes.

that was a weird transition from the danger price technical win to the wheel.
I remember watching these in the summer of '86 and thinking those transitions were strange. Normally there would be a commercial break in the daytime show, but for these specials they did an awkward edit to move directly to the big wheel. It wasn't even physically possible to do in real time as the previous game happened where the big wheel would need to sit. Weird for sure.
@@andyk6796 Definitely was...the edit only worked if the game immediately preceding the Showcase Showdown was played on the turntable (an illusion furthered by the TT visibly turning back around as Bob and the last player arrived at the big wheel).

You can tell the guy in the showcase was just itching for that first one. The second one didn’t seem to impress him that much.
I like how the Navy guy had to bid on a paddle boat and was $1 over. That had to kinda suck.

The Price is Right: The Barker Era may air these when the channel adds post-Johnny Olson episodes to their rotation.

So the color theme for these specials was apparently pewter. The border around the big doors, the border around the home base/turntable, and the curtains behind the audience. I feel like the green one bid displays felt out of place with all the pewter going on.

This episode's production code is 004P, not 005P. 005P was the September 11, 1986 special.
Recent information has been found in terms of the production numbers and it turned out the 1986 specials, except for August 21, 1986, aired out of order. Check the TPIR Wiki.
None of the new shows this season did well except for Designing Women and technically My Sister Sam…there was a stalker guy who murdered the main cast member, I believe, unfortunately, and that fatefully ended the show.
Rebecca Schaefer’s murder was a year after _My Sister Sam_ was canceled by CBS. If anything, the fact that CBS moved it to Saturday nights in the fall of 1987 led to low ratings in the second season. _Designing Women_ almost didn’t get beyond the first year.

my favorite prize a brass canopy bed. i am getting sleepy seeing that prize.
I've wanted one my whole life. Then a few weeks ago I was on my way to pick up my kid from school and spied the 4 giant pillars for a canopy on the street curb -someone was throwing them away! I stopped and asked if the homeowner would mind me taking them, and she helped me load them into my car! (took 2 trips actually). Now I'm just trying to figure out what do do about the fabric part. I'm shocked to see that all the pre-made canopy sheets are _sheer_ . To me the whole point it so block out light completely like sleeping in a cozy cave! So I'm thinking I may need to make my own.

The colors that were popular in the 1980s are truly horrific. Beige? okay. Baby shit yellow? How was that a color choice that people choose voluntarily?
Hmm I didn't notice anybody wearing that color but I've only watched about 1/3 of the episode. What really surprised me was Kimberly who played Plinko (8:55). That vivid red sleeveless low-back dress is so NOT like a typical mid-80's garment. In fact if I didn't know better I would say she was just filmed today! Okay her hairstyle is kinda 80's but not obnoxiously so. She was just a timeless beauty head-to-toe!
