@@LiminalitytvGunung padang is evidence of the Sundaland civilization during the last ice age. Before Sahul became Australia.
Even Hinduism explains that their ancestors came from Sunda, and this Gunung padang is in the territory of the Sunda kingdom..
If you read about Sundaland and Sahul, the kingdom of Sunda and Sunda according to Hinduism, all of those things are very connected and the year is the same. Sundaland and Gunung Padang

You need to clarify what's "nonsense".
In this video, it was addressed how this particular structure has had dubious research wherein no reasonable decision can be made. Maybe that it's far older than proposed, but not entirely being denied as Graham alleges.
So, if you're referring to how confirmation bias needs to be called out for the sake of facts/research, I agree.

@@ismichi That is a laughable misrepresentation of what Graham Hancock alleged in his general theory. You can cherry pick one site and say "well Graham is correct and it's a bit older" however this is intellectually dishonest if not gas lighting.
Graham Hancock's enite theory is that there was a Lost Highly advanced globe spanning civilization. A civilization which spread knowledge of agriculture and architecture to the entire world. A civilization which nearly all evidence was conveniently wiped off the face of the earth by a mythical cataclysm. Yet sites like this are proof.
That is an absurd theory given the mountains of evidence which contradict that ridiculous claim. But even with that aside; this is what Graham is pointing to as evidence of his claims.
      So yes, ridiculous nonsense pseudoscience.

@@_MikeJon_ Globe spanning, advanced civilization is ridiculous. Cities and pyramids existing before the end of the ice-age is not. This one definitely looks like something natural that was built on not that long ago. If they're gonna look for ancient cities in Indonesia they should look underwater where people lived before the sea levels rose.

Politically, Indonesia still is getting rid of it's corruption, but this excevation feels rushed like a college boy's thesis 3 days before the deadline. I think Graham has a lot of good and interesting theories.
    No hes not an archaeologist.
But he has a open mind and makes many interesting connections between the known facts.
There needs to be an appropriate term to describe this work. Because yes its neither archaeology but its also not bad.

    • @Liminalitytv

I think Graham has done a great job at generating interest in archaeology. My problem is that he wont accept evidence or opinions from people who know what they are doing. Which is what he has done at Gunung Padang. There is clear evidence, which is available in this video and in the more recent published data that shows the date that Graham and Danny claim for this site, is not related to layers with human occupation.
The other thing is that Graham has helped to create a legion of people who no longer trust in experts, and believe that there is an archaeological conspiracy to bury some sort of truth about our past. As an archaeologists, I can tell you right now if any of us found proof of an ancient lost civilization we would be ecstatic. That kind of discovery would set you up for life and make you famous across the globe.

11:04 this is true for basically all these pseudoscience creators and personalities. Every one of them. Graham Hancock, Randall Carlson, Jimmy Corsetti and UnchartedX to name a few of the big ones. They'll say things like "mainstream archeology says" Then make some wild claim that's either unproven or impossible to prove. Or they'll use examples to fit their narrative with no other context. I hope you do more criticisms on episodes/videos both found on Netflix and UA-cam.

Thanks a lot for the kind words Mike! One of the clever things about these types of conspiracies is that they do often make claims that are impossible to prove or refute, and this often undermines the real research that's being done. Even worse, they position themselves in a way that anyone who pushes back against their ideas is doing so because they've discovered some hidden truth that 'big archaeology' is keeping from the public. It's a sexy narrative that people love to believe in, and it's not going anywhere any time soon, so there will definitely be more of this kind of content.

I wouldn’t argue that maybe the work wasn’t done properly. But instead of dismissing it outright maybe you should go do the groundwork yourself. Hancock never claimed the pyramid was buried he said the hill was a pyramid of terraces. Instead of dismissing Hancock maybe you should explain the anomalous things found all over the world. For example the stone jars in Egypt the obvious machine marks and precision work in granite. Why is the old kingdom the best examples of all the work in Egypt? It’s hard to deny something is missing and with the evidence now of the cataclysmic events of the last ice age is it really that crazy of a notion when the evidence is overwhelming? It must really hurt tho knowing idiots like jimmy corsetti gets way more views. It’s shameful really just doing attack content and using hancocks name to get views 😅

    • @Liminalitytv
      @Liminalitytv  Рік тому +2

@@AJAquatics-iv9mz How is this attack content? He's released a special on Netflix discussing how Gunung Padang is evidence of an ancient civilization, and all I've done here is look at that evidence and the motivations behind why it was done the way it was. It's not attack content, it's just a review.
If I was dismissive of Hancock I wouldn't have bothered to make this video at all. I literally am making an effort to explain the 'anomalous' things that he's talking about as you said. It's a catch 22, because if archaeologists ignore him then it's becase we're 'afraid that he's exposing us as liars', but if we respond it's 'Why are you so dismissive, what are you hiding?'.
As for the buried pyramid, Dany Hilman, the man whos evidence Hancock cities in the show, has explicitly claimed there is a buried pyramid many times, and the poster made by Hilman which is shown in this video proves that.

I like Graham, but from the stuff I've heard or watched of him, there's indeed a bit of bias from his earlier years of doing this type of journalism. He's mentioned as well how younger archeologists are more open-minded as well, if only because they were inspired by him to go into the field.
Plus, in one JRE episode he had with Randall Carlson, an additional guest via Skype was always fervently disagreeable with Graham was given hard data on a subject by Randall. The man's opinion was swayed and idk what happened later on, but it was indeed an instance of "give reliable data to convince them" as you say here.
Tho tbf, Graham's also stated it's the academic community that is the issue, so I think there's a bit of conflation in his diction for his or that show's marketing. The academic community's being stubborn and deny all that isn't confirmation bias isn't anything new in other fields such as the sciences, arts, or politics. It simply takes longer because it's more than one or two people, in most cases.
eg, we couldn't (still can't?) agree about Pluto both with and without data, all because everyone already agreed on one status long before any of us existed. It takes a while sometimes 🤷‍♀️

What about clovis first and the guy that had his career ended by fellow archeologists for claiming that he'd found something older? Also, about Gobekli Tepe - no, archeology did not change it's narrative. It clung to the evolutionary model of human development because it's implied on your materialistic worldview rather than take the more obvious conclusion which is that the people who make Gobekli Tepe were likely not hunter-gatherers. At the very least, it should be an open question, instead, archeologists like yourself have jumped to the conclusion that hunter-gatherers can now make massive stone structures, despite the fact that we have thousands of years of *recorded* history in which hunter-gatherers achieved no similar feat.

The dating on all this stuff is getting ridiculous. Who knows if carbon levels were drastically different 5000 years ago? I mean, we all know that we've seen a massive flood with water over 150m 6000 years ago which we can't even imagine nowadays and that even oxygen levels are going down, so it's completely possible that the atmosphere was way different back then as well
Because you see, it doesn't make any sense 20000 years difference over 40 cm? Like for real? How is this supposed to happen in real life? People built the thing, waited 20000 years then were llike "hmmm, this would be better if it was bigger"
I feel like all this dating and pretending we actually know how old stuff is is making our discovery slower

    • @ismichi
