Have owned both and love both
I have always loved the 90’s model for interior…. That being said that tan interior of a 90’s model dodge…… mmmm buddy it’s nice!!
I think the thing that makes the OBS Fords special was the fact that they were the last "real" pickup that was basically built for work rather than pleasure.
I love my first gen… But I’ll take both of them. Send it 😂
You having to have one of your hands in frame cracked me up.
That OBS ferd is amazing. Very clean👌
i love bothi have a 99 350 and its a beast as far as pulling but i love the sound of the 5.9 just ervery one that has 5.9 thinks its worth 20000.00 truck and thats crazy
That dodge is a dream. Either of these trucks are show worthy
Great video! Have 3 7.3’s luv em!
Side by side comparison of a 4 door short bed 90’s model 24v 4wd dodge and 4 door short bed 7.3 powerstroke 4wd would be a hell of a video!!! But finding either one in the condition of these two beauties is slim to none..
I'm an original owner of an 97 OBS F-250. 120K miles. Most reliable vehicle ever owned. Just cam sensors, IPR and glow plug relay. Engine fine, EOD tranny service fine. Plastic stuff kinda going away with age.
Man I've watched your videos since your first Cummins(the white one with the rust hole on the frame right behind passenger front wheel) all these 12v's make me want one and I daily a 06 f150😅😂
Both are great trucks at the end of the day. I am partial to the styling of the OBS 7.3, it’s my absolute favorite body style of any truck. That’s really the only reason I’d go for the Ford over the Dodge. You can’t go wrong with either one.
12v i plowed snow with one for many years. It never had an problem. 302k miles.
Love 96 Ram 2500 12v Cummins Turbo Diesel and 97 Ford F250 XLT 7.3 Powerstroke Single Cab Truck?????? Loud n proud Malchi is best GUY
Love both trucks, but my dad has a 97 f-250 7.3 and there's something about that OBS body style that just seems to have a wow factor to it in my opinion.
Yep... that's why now they go for $30k, the ship to find these cheap low miles has sailed. And us NEVER coming back the new cars are all made to fail like iPhone so you upgrade.
Imagine buying that truck new and having it be your only truck :)
I’m in my 40’s so I don’t need to haul but around town anymore and prefer reliability. So I’ll stick with my ‘93 7.3IDI zf-5 CrewCab. For all the things you listed with the OBS but the engine is cheap and reliable like the 5.9 being all mechanical.
My son has the 99 powerstroke with north of 35k miles on it, auto trans. Real workhorse, alternator problem is the only expenditure. I have an '03, 3500 dually, auto trans . Both would be benifiting with a 5 spd trans. The 12 valve,5.9, is without doubt, the best Cummins in the series,(discounting some design flaws like the alignment pin or death pin as its known by). Either one is a winner.
I'll keep my 1992 f350 crew cab 7.3 idi 5 speed
The dodge would definitely be a dream come true, love the 12v
My '97 F-350 with a 550 HP 7.3 is boss.
I haven’t heard anyone say the Cummins Rams with the Aisin automatic transmission having those issues, I have heard people say the 68 RFE automatic is not reliable but that’s probably because the Cummins trucks equipped with it are too tourquey for that engine.
Injectors are actually easy in the fords! Did mine in under an hour!
I owned a 1995 1 ton emerald green 5 speed I wish I had back.
I'll take the obs 7.3
Get a hold of a paintless dent removal company they should be able to fix hail dents
I paid 6000 for my 1995 crew cab, 4 x 4, Dena 60 in the front 160,000 miles and runs like a beast
I love that ford
when is the shop shirt are. going to be available again
Great question man.. they were a top seller and then became really hard to find to get back in stock each time they sold out! We will try to find a way to get them back again!
injectors cost more for the ford but trans for the dodge is about 3000.00
Only diesels I ever buy is obs 7.3 I got couple of them one just like this but 96 same everything an I got 87 6.9 Idi an I’ll tell ya what imo everything you said ki right on the money I love my 7.3 but buddy you can’t beat 12 valve I’d own one if I can find one cheap enough lol
I'd definitely take the OBS 7.3 Powerstroke ZF5 but as an ext cab, imo the interior is better for a mid 90s diesel truck, if you're looking to buy one though for a performance diesel build I'd def go 12v or 24v Cummins all the way especially since the price is a lot lower cuz the 7.3 Powerstroke would cost way too much money to just make a few more hp
im a dodge guy but if i could find a clean 7.3 you bet i would drive it
That's easy: the 12v is better to use as a truck and the OBS Ford is GORGEOUS
Me personally 7.3 all day. But question, would you ever own a 6.0 Vortec Cateye Chevy? I'm more a ford guy but i bought a 6.0 chevy 4wd with a plow for $800. Tell me that ain't a steal
Love da Cummins🤙🏽💯💯💯
I would literally trade my Harley for that Ford. Shhhh don't tell my wife. Bad Ass truck !!!!
More small cost sensors on the Ford, but as far as big $ engine problems neither have many but Cummins has more. The Ford is much better built over all and less costly to run as far as drive train issues. I think overall, the Ford is cheaper to run as a whole, not Powerstroke vs Cummins, so I would choose the Ford all day long especially those two examples. Mostly stock vs heavily modded, stock wins.
OBS 7.3 Ford Malachi American made
12 valve swap the ford and it will be longer lasting reliability in my opinion 7.3 is a great engine though
Why would you ever swap a low mileage 7.3? The time, labor, and money spent would be idiotic just for a slightly better motor.
@_saucyam_ wasn't really referring to a low mileage one just mainly if it is a dramatic problem and you really don't want to fool with another power stroke mainly 6.0 and 6.4 is what I have seen swapped over for the last couple years but to each their own
@@adamhogeland8033 I have a 6.0 and I ain’t engine swapping it for shit
Has anyone won the dodge ? It’s not on the site anymore! Good luck to everyone who entered
I’ll take the 12v I’ve owned Both and the 2nd gen gets better mpg better ride better turn radius and just in general less things to break and less money to make power not just in maintenance. And I bleed blue my whole child hood then I got my first 12v then know have a 7.3 and wow haha I guess dodge wasn’t all that bad lol 😆
Good luck finding a first gen dodge thats not rotted out. Maybe I should just say dodge.
I got a better one for ya.how about a Ford with a factory 5.9 cummins 6 speed eaton manual. Ford interior cummins engine. My 97 Ford f800. Love this beast. Best of both worlds
I'm thinking about about pulling the trigger on a 05 fummins 12 valve with the zf6
Both auto trans in the obs and 12v’s were arguably the worst ones
Dude literally at 13:51 when you said “until my sister threw it in a ditch” and that audio came on I got an ad of a baby gasping for air and the ad was (help a child). Bruh wild coincidence
You gotta scrap them dodge wheels. 😵💫
12v All day
Dodge trans is pretty shit stock while ford was better with transmission i like the look of ford obs
ZF5 is a tank
If I drove a 12 valve I would drive a 1st gen
no a 99 superduty is better, has a intercooler and much more power
One day Ford, chevy truck guys will break bread with dodge guys and we can't forget about lil dependable brother Toyota.
I what a ford
So discouraged right now it’s unreal
the only thing good about 90's Dodges were the Cummins. The trucks themselves were trash.
I’m completely biased I have 2 7.3 Powerstroke’s a 94 1/2 and a 96 growing up everybody had them I never even knew what a dodge 12v was until I started watching UA-cam because no one had Dodges. all fords and chevys. We put are 7.3s in our local car show they were a big hit. my 96 looks like it just came off the showroom floor with 140 thousand miles the 94 1/2 is not as nice but it only has 160
E4OD trans were just as bad as the 47re if not worse, super weak shifting bad for reverse going out and slip with anything over 250hp
Haha, them 2 trucks are good but they do NOT handle abuse as you claim. Owning both and still owning a 89 ford f250 I can tell you they all have problems to a T, I wouldnt own a dodge just because them transmission and axles do not hold up, and ford ttb suck and their always snapping axles. My old Chevy still holds up to this SD weather and they will hold just like them 2...
The gmt400 series trucks were great but the 6.5 Detroit was junk. I’m a diehard gm guy but i would never buy a 88-98 gm with a diesel
6 injectors vs 8 injectors to buy……. Easy decision lol 😅
hands down the dodge 5.9
The Ford is superior in every way except the dodge engine is slightly better.
And there never will be 2 better trucks unless they get rid of emissions and if manufacturers put quality over profits
7.3 way better that is literally my dream spec haven’t even watched yet but 7.3 better
That's ez, the 12 valve is better,
No comparison lol
did you really just say that it is $1500 o replace glow plugs and relay? oh man you are paying your mechanic way too much
Nah 7.3 last longer…not sure where you got that the Cummins is better for longevity. HP Cummins all the way but otherwise 7.3. Also Cummins semi motors are my least favorite and least reliable from my experience as a driver
“The two best diesels ever built” 😂… “best” is used in a very narrow context here.
Being a owner and collector of both model trucks . I would say the pros and cons are equal as long as they put a huge smile on your face and take you work to keep living a productive lifestyle 💪
