- CAUTION! Buyers Clueless When Buying These NEW Vehicles!
Watch out if you're looking to buy a car! Our latest video helping you buy cars is all about lot rot. We're breaking down the situation so you can buy your next car with ease. If you're out shopping for cars, SUVs or more, this video will help you with understanding how a car sitting on a lot can be a big issue for you.

Here is an interesting scenario. A neighbor made an offer on a leftover 2022. The dealer still has eight 2022 models on the lot. Our neighbor put the VIN for an "instant cash offer" trade in value on KBB. They took that number and made an offer on the 2022 model, with contingencies. The vehicle had a November 2021 build date. The dealer demanded MSRP, which was NUTS. The vehicle is almost three years old. They told the dealer that the day they drive it off the lot, it is an "old" vehicle. The dealer again told my neighbor there are no incentives for the vehicle. So, our neighbor asked for 5 new tires (the spare too), all fluids and filters changed (engine oil, brakes, trans, coolant) as well as a new battery. The dealer told our neighbor to "get lost". Amazing. And they wonder why their lot is packed with what you call as ... LOT ROT. Cheers.
That dealer deserves to go out of business. Make way for someone that actually wants to run a dealership the right way.
Dealers live by the motto "a sucker born every minute", issue is that dealers need to realize that they ran through 90% of the suckers during COVID. And because of that the suckers, can't pay their loans, and are getting repo.
Its 2024 already where are the flying cars we were promised, that's what I would like to know!
It’s a blessing those are not available for the general public.
If flying cars were mainstream, there would be 10x as many fatalities and mishaps. Too many lack driving skills as is. Now imagine those individuals piloting an automobile capable of flight.
The part where you’d have to land the car would be the biggest concern. Drivers will be crashing these flying machines through the roofs of housed.
And don’t get me started on DUIs lol
@@upbeattvraw-hiphop8242 A heavy cost, we would all pay it gladly.
@@upbeattvraw-hiphop8242 i think it would be FUI
We're too busy arguing about racist maple syrup.
Well it has a lot to do with pricing lol. They're all out of touch
Pricing is everything
There's a cdjr dealership here in Phoenix that was trying to sell me a $42,000 Grand Cherokee with 3,000 miles on it and tried to tell me it was new cuz it's never been registered 🤡.
He can't sell it as new, he's crooked
@@Vincent-ke5zn he told me it's never been registered or insured so it's new😂
It was in the loaner fleet or a demo, I don't think test drives would rack up 3k miles unless the car was sitting on the lot for 5 years, which at this point with Stellantis is a good possibility.
@@Vincent-ke5zn It is still "new" until it is registered so he is selling it correctly. It might be a demo a dealership employee drove with a dealer plate on it thus it wasn't registered so it's "new". Warrantee is not started until the retail buyer signs the final purchase agreement and drives it off the lot.
@TimothyNeid even if it was a demo then they can't sell it as new titled or not they are salesmen and they lie about lying to make $$$
EV mustang is an insult to Mustang Name.
For Maverick is over priced. Should be starting at $15k
Yes it should have been a whole new model
Still living in 2015 hahaha. Good luck during the depression.
Ford is gay dude, Cope
I keep thinking it may have actually sold better if they had named it something else. Calling that thing a Mustang, especially when they are still making real Mustangs, is an insult to people's intelligence!
Maverick is an insult to trucks. I got nothing wrong with unitized trucks. However, the Maverick is smaller than some sedans and tows less than some compact SUVs.
You're absolutley right. Rodents may do some serious damage to certain components/wiring. Perfect nesting area for birds, rats, porcupines, raccoons, mice, skunks, ferrel cats, squirells, bees, wasps and so on.
Absolutely right. Things simply return to earth with enough time
And tigers and bears oh my! Just kidding 😇
Thanks for exposing this. Very true. I worked for GM, Pontiac Cadillac store, worked my way from washing cars to service manager; including ASE master tech. First thing I saw on old stock was batteries. Charging was futile. The trim would literally bleach out in the Florida sun. Finally, we had a dark blue Bonneville brougham that for some reason, sat so long, it could not have the horizontal surfaces buffed anymore and actually had to have the deck lid and hood/ tops of fenders repainted.
Thanks very much. Yes some southern states can pose a real issues with sun on these vehicles and can have a big imoact
These EV's crash even further when Trump gets back in.
Well…..
Big Mac, screw that. I went into a 7-11 today and they wanted $3.50 for a regular size snickers. Jeebus Christo
Check out something called a "Big Mac Salad." You make it at home. It's a fairly keto version of something that tastes exactly like a Big Mac, but is made with ingredients you can pronounce and is not too bad for you. Ultra low carb even. For the cost of a 'value' meal at McD's, I can feed a family of 4.
Haha indeed
Yes people need to start making healthier choices anyway and it’s a win for all of us.
Maybe riden with Biden not all it’s cracked up to be
Snickers is actually worth it! Those stupid looking pick up trucks will be worthless very soon! I won’t buy I pickup truck right now because I don’t want to look like an idiot
Those Nissan Rogues aren't selling because it has an overly complex engine and transmission.
You mean they are garbage.
Yes and not particularly well made
You will see Rogues in the junkyard due to bad CVT'S and engines!
And it's a Nissan.
Mfr. "cost cutting" quality, reliability and customer service/satisfaction is now coming home to roost.
Exactly
These are excellent points for the buyers, thank you for a very informative video Mark. I didn't think about this for some reason 🤔. WAY TO GO MARK
Very welcome, I appreciate the support and yes all too often people don’t think about this as it’s not typical to have 3 year old new vehicles on these lots. Bad gas added too
Saw 3 'new' 2023 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimiteds listed that have been for sale for over 500 days!!!
Yes many of these vehicles have been on the market for 2, 3, 4 or even more
Ev's are great to commute to work and to use in the city, at this time that is about all the ev's are good for.
Bottom line
Oh brother! Don't tell a fanboy THAT! They'll melt like ❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄
You forgot to mention the fluids that go bad and deteriorate over time...oil is only good for up to a year without needing to be changed regardless of if it was used. It breaks down exposed to the environment. Have to have the oil changed before you purchase it or immediately upon purchase to ensure no engine damage due to poor lubrication.
Exactly right and gas does go bad as well.
Wiper blades rot in the sun heat too. Look at rubber window seals as they start to deteriorate in the sun.
In almost every way you would be better off buying a used 2022 than a brand new one that has been sitting on the lot that long.
except for the warranty - the most important thing of all
@@GannDolph Hmmmmmmmmmmm? Most important of all UNLESS you buy a LEXUS.......However if you are stupid enough to go Gucci supposedly....... and get a Dog Euro you may e correct...However why would anyone buy a Euro????

yeah. look at people buying trucks for 80k or so... super over priced... buyers are clueless.
I simply fail to understand why people are paying these inflated prices aligned with high interest rates
@@markholubetz I dont know but they are allowing the dealers to continue to do it to us. I have been looking for 2 years and it's too much.
What a mess!! Why were so many vehicles built ahead of time before they were sure they could be sold. These are some pretty expensive mental errors! It's hard to believe this could happen. The same thing has happened in housing...especially during the recession of 2008 - 2009. There were literally hundreds /thousands of homes built that sat there empty for many months...if not years. It all comes down to "GREED."
This -thanks for giving us tips on what to look for. This "lot rot" on new things from sitting is true of EVERYTHING, I noticed. You need to watch with "sale" items everywhere. I've gotten sneakers (two pairs, one right after the other) that were new that were dry-rotted from sitting in warehouses (not necessarily noticeable until I start wearing them , and in fact, wasn't even thinking that way when going to buy NEW anything. A used car, a thrift store pair of sneakers, you are looking at things that might give a clue as to the condition based on wear. Brand new? No way, you're not thinking that way. Now you have to be. For example, those apple AirPods they had on "deep sale" lately? How much battery life are you going to get out of them. Remember, they're lying, the economy isn't good, nobody's buying anything except what they need, so when you get to the point where you eventually NEED a car, this is something you have to look for.
Thank you very much for watching and yes these are important things to look for especially as many vehicles are now sitting longer on car lots
I want to order a new jeep and every dealer hated talking to me.
The ones I talked to were trying hard for me to buy a lot car .
I walked
Some I gave a bad review for trying to con me .
Yup
Cheers. Yes many who know that you know the tricks may shy away as tricks are not as effective
There is going to be a lot of recycling with these vehicles not selling they sit rot rust, paint fades, tires deflate, bird craps, dealer lets them sit and they don’t care figuring they will sell all of them real soon, days turn to weeks then months then years, dealers are like why are we not getting customers? our prices are the best, best deals, best interest rates, the best for the rest, customers inquire offering a lower price dealer says NO this is the best price, customer leaves, next customer comes they make offer, it’s less than what dealership wants they leave,
Vehicles don’t leave the dealerships, it’s really bad
I always felt that if these vehicles would not be used and are just sitting around what happens to the electronics after a while. It definitely can’t be good for them
Yes too many days sitting is certainly not great for them
Small town used homes are 400,000. Nope I'm out.
The problem is there priced to high enough that that only the people who are in the good position who can buy these vehicles and then you can’t get the guy who’s income and life style follow along of that. Ever new vehicle is 10 to 20k overpriced
Well heeled buyers only are buying
Talk talk talk saying nothing
I think the best bet for manufacturers to get rid of all these cards would have to heavily discount them. Would manufacturer incentives like 30-40% off 0% etc for these 2 to 3-year-old cars?
Sounds good, and I am sure that would spark sales
These cars should be Priced at 18k to 30k!!! Manufacturers should have to add 5 years bumper to bumper!!! Take the cost out of the CEO's bonus😂😂😂
That would never happen on the CEO salary but but bigger discounts should, and in some cases, are happening these days
I learned the hard way that all tirres carry date codes on the sidewall showing year/month of manufacture ,and they will perish just sitting around in the garage. My tirwe place won't install any tires more than eight years old
Thanks for sharing. Yes that can be a real issue with age. Dry rot and cracking can make them unsafe with age.
Solution to lot rot for dealers will be
Charge more for it as a dealer installed option
Haha that sounds about right
Great video covering tires and batteries. The pandemic supply chain debacle wave now produced a glut. Crazy!
Thank you. Yes this is a new issue now afflicting the market which we rarely see before 2020
Corporate greed!!!!!
Exactly
Overly sophisticated vehicles with heavy use of electronics are reliable until these features start to fail. Then they all start to see multiple failures happen with higher repair/replacement costs.
Older and or lesser complex vehicles may have more general service needs or repairs but are often easier and cheaper to repair.
Cheers
Buyers beware.
They are asking for too much money, I'll wait two more years.
Waiting in this game usually wins.
People said the same thing two years ago.
I make it a rule that I will not buy a vehicle newer than 2004 to 2010ish. Id rather have a vehicle that doesn't require a computer that warns me the fuel door is open and will fail an e-check thus rendering the vehicle unregisterable until fixed. The newer it is, the shorter the planned obsolescence period.
That’s fair. New tech is cute but simply adds complexity. Some brands get it right while others certainly cannot
Buyer beware..Wife blew her transmission in her Altima.
Waiting for parts. Her new transmission installed is going to cost $6-7k Canadian.
What a joke!!! NEVER AGAIN NISSAN!!
Man if you only you started watching this channel sooner! He’s been saying stay away for years!
Yes Nissan and Infiniti are well know for some bad transmissions
Big Altima energy
We have 175k on our 2015 Altima. No trans issues at all. You gotta change the CVT fluid every 50k km

Want to know how long the cars been sitting on the lot? Simple, check the bill date on the vehicle inside the door. This will give you a pretty good idea.
For sure

Indeed it sure is
The Maverick Hybrid and non-Hybrid is the top selling pickup truck today
Except it isn't a truck. It's a car with a small bed. Not that I hate it. It's a useful vehicle for most people, but it isn't a truck
It's not a truck.
It's a car with a pickup bed.
And priced near what the full sized f150!was 5 years ago. Rip off
@markholubetz my 2010 f150 lariat was 37k brand new its sad how much they increased in price my truck i can fix myself ill run it till the frame breaks
The Maverick is not a truck. Neither is the Toyota Stout.
A number of years ago, a nephew of mine bought a Subaru in Florida (lives in NJ) that has sat on the lot for a long time. He had to replace the tires not long after he bought it due to 'lot rot'. For sure many issues can come from a vehicle sitting on a lot for many months. Buyer be educated.
Thanks for shorting your story. Yes it’s a real issue. Think oil that deteriorates with weather and seasons and has that goes stale all within a li g period sitting
my 2010 f150 royal red still shines like the day it was new and has been outside its entire life.
You took care of it, correct?
@revtimewest i wash it atleast once a week and i do wax it in the spring and fall. ive had it since day one got 135k on it. sure it has a couple of rock chips but i fill those in as soon as i see them
Nice. I use a ceramic sealant and other products on my 2018 F150 and she still looks new too. Clay bar and light polish every spring followed be ceramic sealant. I put PPF on the front end when I bought it new so no rock chips. I garage mine too. Detailing doesn’t even feel like work to me. I hope mine still looks good like yours in 8 years.
@woodrmp1 i work in the oilfield so it dont matter a rock chip will happen but as far as factory paint the royal red ford had was probably one of their best as far as being tough
Probably looked after and also depends on where you live. A Phoenix paint won’t last line a Saskatoon paint
Name the manufacturer(s) who says the warranty starts on the date production. I call BS on that comment.
5:55 lot tire rot is what caused many Russian vehicles to break down in the russian invasion of Ukraine causing a 40 kilometers long parking lot in 2022 invasion.
Exakt. Allt behöver röra på sig / underhållas
They do, at least once a week until sold and some fluid updates and checks yearly as a minimum
This is an important episode....and to your point...The sun!!! UVC rays are getting through more every year...and it shows....Things are breaking down faster than ever....and yes.... recycled materials are a huge part of this issue as well...
Wrong, the material quality is engineered for failure
Thank you very much. Yea these are bigger problems than many people realize
In Bristol England, there are huge fields of cars which have been shipped into the country and are sat there waiting for distribution to dealers. So your new car is probably rotting before you actually buy it
You are right unless you get a car right off the assembly line, there are many that have been sitting in grass fields for a year, two, or three
Worse are EVs-if the batteries stay at less than 40% of total charge (for over 1 year); the batteries will never take a full charge....then you are looking at $16,000-$22,000 replacement
Nice
CDJR will not be around long enough to honor any warranty. I dont see them surviving the year.
Will anyone miss them?
Most tire manufacturers only allow 6-7 years on the road. 8 years is my max. A tire that separates at speed can remove a fender or quarter panel of a vehicle. That can cost thousands in sheet metal and paint.
You are right and worse case the vehicle veers off road
@2:48 - "1.5 million" Grated, that's Canadian Kopeks. What's that, about $75K in "Freedom Bucks"?
That’s true the Canadian peso
Batteries wear out prematurely if they don't get cycled. AC compressors can go bad when their gaskets go dry when the freon is not circulating.
Exactly many parts start to go bad if not used
How many days on the lot before you say the deal isn't worth it?
I would say anything goes for the right price. They definitely need to be priced as depreciation should reflect normally. I personally would not buy a “new” vehicle older than 1 full year. Eg i would only buy a 2023 in the current time frame.
@@markholubetz Thanks for your input

I don’t blame you. I also feel a little deflated with being unable to afford these high pieces and yet I earn a reasonable middle class type income
Tires expire 6 years from the date code on the sidewall.
Age is rubbers worst nightmare
Just got wind of a new trick. Went to get an OTD price on a Durango. Dealer hemmed and hauled, then offered $30K on a at best $23K trade-in. Seems like they want the record to look like they are holding prices.
Sure low ball the selling price and screw you on the trade-in. Nothing new.
@leonb2637 Dealer offered $7K more, then trade was worth. But keep OTD price at MSRP.
My neighbor in Prescott, AZ, had his Rubicon wiring chewed up by rats. $1700. in repair (2016). My folks who lived just around corner had GMC truck wires chewed($750 repair).
Sorry to hear that. I know it’s a real issue and many people land on the wrong side of these rodents
Yeah depends how much they chewed , if they chewed visible wires like coils or injectors the 750 bill makes sense if they chewed up different parts of the engine or transmission harness yeah that really rack up.
This could be a 1 min video
Great points!
Thank you very much
2024 wranglers now have side curtain airbags for rear passengers. If anyone cares about their passengers nobody would buy the older models, making selling the older wranglers that much harder to sell.
Nothing selling due bloated price point. Industry getting a much needed wake up call. Got silly buyers buy high, dealership will continue to price gouge 🤬😡
Lot Rot also affects internal/engine parts. I purchased a brand new 2024 X6M, and 2 weeks later had fuel pump replaced also battery was discharging. The car was 100k plus and even all was fixed replaced, it was a victim of rot lot
When the OEM's sell expensive crap, you win an expensive prize.
Nice
I’m more worried about mechanical issues with engines, transmissions & the like just SITTING for months
It's the same story with Harley Davidson. I saw a brand new 2 year old bike on the showroom floor. And of course the dealer decided that it needed their cheap aftermarket bling added.
They were still asking over list price, as well as the parts markups. After 2 years had gone by. Good luck selling it.
This guy makes some good points,... when cars sit on lots for a long time, they are exposed to so much wear tear. Might as well buy a 6-7 year old garaged car.
In Arizona, tires dry rot fast sitting in the sun. I usually have to replace my truck tires before the tread is at the wear bars because of dry rot. 2 or 3 year old tires sitting in the sun will be trashed.
Vilka 2 system i ett fordon underhålls sällan eller aldrig?????.

"The f150 is not selling well" and yet it is the best selling car in the market.
GM outsold Ford lately but all of them are seeing a slow year over year decline
At least you admit the F150 is a car..... 😂😂
Great info / video, thanks!
Thank you so much
I don’t think that ppl are talking in consideration the ‘Lot Rots’, they want the latest and at the end it’s going to bite them in the ‘A**’.
It's channels like yours are keeping us informed.
Yep, lot rot, and along with the "decomposition" comes fledgling depreciation. But no real deals. Too many add-ons to cut that MSRP. And on a side note, Jaguar, Land Rover break down in the show room, some on the car carrier from factory to dealer lot. Low quality and cost by OEMs. I remember when Cadillac and Lincoln had their own separate divisions with few shared parts from the Chevy and Ford parts bins. Now you can buy a Lincoln/Bronco Sport/Escape and get the same low quality, and mechanical issues.
Most tires are good for six years. I have heard that Michelin will last 10 years.
Buy a good used vehicle
A good used vehicle with a good history is a reasonable risk
If you don’t like EV’s then don’t buy them. Why get mad at people that do..
I am not mad and I relish in diverse options . This is simply a market swing. They make great city tides
Good Morning,
What's a, "great city tide"?
Do you still have that F-type? I am looking for a 2010+ XK and would be interested in your thoughts on such a purchase.
Thx!
You have the right to buy an EV. And I have the right to think you are an idiot.
I think the EV is a fantastic machine, its just the power source (aka Battery) that becomes a problem over time... if it could be powered by a mini 'consumer grade' fusion generator or something like that, the rest of the electric automobile is perfectly upto snuff.... If a MR. COFFEE generator from Back To The Future 2 was a real thing, it would put GAS ICE cars out of service pretty quickly.

I was trying to buy a 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage from Canada, (I live in the US)... it was 5 speed, manual crank windows in the back, no power locks, no cruise control. I was looking too late and the allotments were very small... had to settle for a 2021 '7000 mile base car from the US to get a 5 speed... it had power windows, power locks and cruise. Locking and unlocking all 4 doors manually would have been an absolute pain if you could only use the key and no cruise would totally suck while interstate driving... I made the right choice in retrospect... but I get the point and had the same mindset a year ago. Mirage is still about as simple as a modern car as you can get these days....
By now I think the world knows that vehicles are not moving off the lot. Gets boring and really who cares? Until they make the prices reasonable and lower interest rates…. I guess we will continue to hear these repetitive videos. But thanks for your time and input. Cheers

I purchased a certified used Volvo back in January in San Francisco. It had been on the lot since September. Not crazy but about 100 days.
After driving it a few days I noticed that there was vibration in the front when braking due to warped rotors. The dealership stated this was due to inactivity.
They did fix it for free, which I appreciated. But it also shows that if a car sits mainly unused for months that things can start to go wrong.
Thanks for the informative report!

EV market will drop to almost zero. Why? BYD in China sells their EV's for 1/5 of the price of a Tesla! Yet, they can't be bought in US / Canada now - and when they are available, there will be a 100% tariff on them. This angers US buyers that want a decent deal - and are severely strapped now because of Bidenomic Inflation.
