- I think the finale of New Amsterdam comes out like, next week, right? (Oops, it's the week after next.) Exciting seeing what will happen between Helen and Max!
On the other hand... I had to cut out a bit of this video to avoid it being blocked in other countries, which is a shame.
Let me know in the comments if you have any ideas for what you want me to edit next, or to just let me know what you thought of the video, I really appreciate it.

Whatever the writers may have install for us (going forward) and for these two lovely people, we all know Max will mess up at some point ( it’s his character). Also maybe he’s a little afraid of her. I truly hope they the writers make this couple love all consuming without too much prejudice. Let’s have an example of solid interracial relationships. Because in real life some relationships actually do work (SharpWin forever)
I think that's why they had Max address the privilege he has, in terms of race, a few episodes ago? I can't remember, but they had him deal with the fact that he shouldn't ask the people who do experience racism to help solve the problem - he should listen to their experiences instead. That episode came to its resolution when he listened to Sharpe saying that she wanted to step down in her bigger role in the hospital, and with Max simply saying okay. Contrasted to season 1 when he didn't want to let her stop being his doctor, and where he wanted her to be his everything.
So, in short, I agree with you! He might mess up, but he has, at the very least, addressed his privilege, so I think they'll be a strong interracial couple, and that won't be one of their issues. I think the writers had Max grow as a person in this regard *before* they get the two of them together, so that Helen knows he's someone she can trust a bit more now that he's grown.
Correct me if you think I'm wayyy off with that analysis! But I'm betting that any issues they have once they eventually get together, will not break them apart. And none of this is to say that the bigger issues are just one and done, dealt with and forgotten, but that they're always woven into the foundation of society, and Max, and characters like him, will continue to grow after making that first step.
Yes they can be a beautiful interracial couple I have a sister in law who's married my brother they have been married 15 yrs when you really really Love someone your Race should not be an issue sure there are going to be people out there who disapprove that's life let's keep it real but you handle the best you no how hold you head up High and continue your journey together as long as you have that partner your friend all of the above you can move mountains do anything your little heart desires communicate with one another let them no that you will always be there for the other that's everything in a nutshell True Love sees no color and Max I know you are going to do some stupid things but Helen is nothing like Georgia she will be there for like she always has but she ain't taking no bullshit you guy's make a beautiful couple can't wait til Season 4 please don't disappoint us she is the best thing for you she doesn't mind putting you in your place and telling when your wrong you guys are in sync your walks walking close to each other the looks are a killer the smiles and Mac acts like a little boy sometimes all star struck when looking a Helen at times he loves be close to her his connection like the song says it's Max to a tee love you guys so excited for this chapter in your lives
A lot of people in interracial relationships don't feel the need for all these discussions either...this is TV and we live in a very social justice world so I'm sure they will because of the audience who seems to expect it (e.g. these comments) but truthfully it's how everyone experiences their love. Even the Loving's, at least Ms. Loving said as such. She never thought they were two different races. They always were just two people.

@@kympenetito7103 Just the fact that Max had to learn to be better, and that some of the things he was doing were offensive, even if he didn't mean for them to be. This means that when they're actually together, their relationship will be stronger because he has learnt and bettered himself.
Race comes into it because healthy interracial relationships are hardly ever represented on-screen. People deserve to see themselves represented. Obviously race shouldn't be an issue in relationships, or life in general, and to accurately represent real life, we should see these relationships in fiction, too.
Most of these comments, clearly, are over a year ago because by now, everyone knows that the writers destroyed a beautiful lovestory. The Max and Helen lovestory could have gone down in tvland history as one of the most beautiful stories ever expressed in a medical drama; surpassing even daytime dramas as well. BUT NO, the writers, cut of their nose to spite their faces. Freema/Helen deserved the best that they could give her, and yet they decimated her character, and in doing so destroyed Ryan/Max's character. Pairing Max with Wilder was an epic failure. I saw NO believable connection between them in season 4, though the writers were trying, especially when she was on stage with him at the karaoke bar. It was a pathetic attempt. Once Helen walked in, Max saw no one but her. So glad that i never watched Season 5, and I never will. From what I've heard from those who did, it should be erased from tvland history. Oh well, I bought the NA dvds 1-4 because of the lovestory that grew, blossomed, and captivated all our hearts. 🕊❤️🕊
I haven't been able to watch the last one or two episodes of season 5 personally... Can't bring myself to finish it knowing what they did to Helen's character
@@LeaveTheFutureInThePast The only consolation that I found was in reading some amazing Sharpwin fanfiction stories that ultimately gave them the ending they deserved. Some of the Sharpwin fanfiction stories are terrible and depressing, and so far removed from the actual characters of the show, and therefore I could not finish reading them. BUT, there are some good stories that were believable. I also found out, and please correct me if I'm wrong that Ryan was one of the producers of the show, especially S4 and S5, and therefore, I'm a little bit puzzled that he agreed to that storyline ending with him, knowing that it would paint Freema's character Helen in a negative light. Perhaps he was upset that she wasn't returning to the show. However, I tend to think that's not the case because of their close relationship on and off screen, but his emotions may have gotten involved. I also believe that Ryan had genuine feelings towards Freema which may have been a hurtful departure for both of them. He adored her. I say that only because, it was understood that Freema was leaving at the end of S4 due to her London commitment with Dreamland. In fact, she was suppose to leave the Dam at the end of S3, but I guess they convinced her to stay for another season. It would not have been a problem had the Dam not been cancelled. They could have revisited her character at a later season after her London commitment was done, BUT, as we know, S5 ended up being the last season. S5 should she be buried in the DAM graveyard. If the writers and the producers were spiteful towards Freema, (who by the way, I think handled her departure with such grace and dignity) they only made themselves look pitiful in the eyes of the fans, particularly, the Sharpwin fans. It's very unfortunate especially for Ryan's character Max; so many fans said they did not recognize him. In fact, some fans labeled him as "messy" ( relationship wise), and I was sad when i read that because I loved Max's genuine love for Helen. That's why i blame the writers! 😭
On another note, I saw a video and photo of Freema at the BAFTA; she looked absolutely stunning; simply beautiful. She is just a ray of sunshine! Her smile and her personality are infectious! Because of her powerhouse performance on the Dam, she has left quite an impression with her new fanbase around the world. I hope that she and Ryan will work together again in the future. Miss them!
