If you do end up watching more, I’d highly suggest out of context clips of the other two seasons as well, and as for music there’s another version of “that’s not how the story goes” that’s _actually_ near the end of the show, and the version of it without dialogue over top of it is on Jim Dooley’s (made the OST for seasons 2 & 3) UA-cam channel
The opening line for the first book is “If you are interested in happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book.” And each book has a similar opening and even throughout the book there are 3rd wall breaks by the author where he directly talks to you the reader and tries to convince you to put the book down and read something else.

It's funny you mention the song sounding detached from Count Olaf's character, but Count Olaf knows he's the bad guy and revels in it. The song could also be in reference to how the author of the books speaks to the reader, where Lemony Snicket constantly tells you how awful of a time it is to write these books

The whole show is fantastic, I would recommend it to anyone who is ok with a bit of despair and life-ruining drama.

the “that’s how the story goes song” although it says ending song, is not at the end of the series (it’s the ending of season one). i believe there is a remake near the end of the series but that’s just with like violet and count olaf singing or smth! they actually got a decent ending, bittersweet in a way.

As someone that rewatched the movie like 100 times as a kid because it was one of not that many movies we had, I loved it LOL It got me to read the books and enjoy the story. I never even knew the show exists until recently and let's just say it's... something. It can get quite boring and the tone / scenography feels off.
the "ending song" was actually in the middle of the show. at that point in the show there were no other family members / friends that would take the kids in so they were put in a boarding school and they're waiting to be let into the principal's office. they still have many more desinations to goOlaf was not in jail they were just saying that that would be nice. i think it was to make people think that it ends there - badly but it does end somewhat better: ***SPOILERS**** count Olaf dies and they get to live and they all raise their parents' friend's (who died after giving birth next to Olaf) kid who grows up to be just like them and tells Lemony (the guy who sang the "ending song" low that u liked) more details to the Baudelaires' story hence how he is able to narrate the show. they lived for i think like a couple years on a newly deserted island that their parents used to live on with their old inventions and books. i highly recommend the show, in my opinion the show just gets better and better as it goes on and its also way way way better than the movie.
This show goes so hard the mysteries and absolute Villian of Olaf is insane it had me Hooked from the start with the cliffhangers and tragedy. Plus the songs from the theme and That’s not how the story goes is so well done

One of the best parts of the show (imo) is how the kids are constantly given hope just for it to be taken away from them again. Like, most of their new caregivers (in season 1) are actually great people and want to take good care of them (justice for Monty), but then just as they feel like they're getting settled, BOOM death and depression. To the point where they don't even want to risk getting hopeful because they know something's probably going to come fuck them over again.

I was waiting for someone to react to this show, so Matthew I can't even _begin_ to tell you how happy I am that you're checking it out!!! ASOUE is quite possibly my favorite Netflix show of all time, and I don't see enough people talking about it as it is, so thanks for checking it out.

I just love him watching songs from the series literally called "A series of unfortunate events", hears the theme song telling you not to watch because it's depressing and won't end with some happy ever after, and is still surprised by the end when everyone ends up unhappy
3:03 that’s something I love from the books, how Snicket often juxtaposes the truly awful and unthinkable with the mildly inconvenient. It really makes it so approachable for a younger audience, as he doesn’t shy away from terrible things, but almost always softens them with something so comically small by comparison that there’s a sense of dissonance and tonal whiplash. Beautiful dark humor unlike anything else.

I especially love some of the characters introduced in season 2 and their performances but the whole cast was spectacular. That’s Not How the Story Goes plays at the end of season 1 and it was a nice surprise. One of my favorite shows ever! I still need to read the books, but I'm always excited to see Mathew react to things I love I'd watch him react to the entire series in order and I am not exaggerating
I grew up with this show and it’s books. It has a special place in my heart. I honestly forgot most of it so I might have to rewatch it. Though, if you are genuinely considering watching it for a video or in your free time, I 100 percent recommend! And if you do a video on it, here is one guaranteed viewer! Have a lovely day!😊
I read this book series when I was in late elementary and early middle school, and it majorly impacted me. The name is no joke, over the course of 13 books there’s a lot of death, loss, betrayal, disbelief, and world shattering moments for the Baudelaires. I was so excited when the final book was published and didn’t even know how to describe the feelings I had upon finishing it, the wins didn’t always feel like they outweighed the losses and that was a lot for me to take in. It’s quite depressing but I really do love the books and appreciate the Netflix adaptation because there was never a sequel to cover books after the first three in the Jim Carey version.
I read this series first when I was 8, and I read it multiple times during the next like 5 years. I have depression, and I loved these books so much because they made me feel like I was allowed to be sad. My poor mother didn't know what was going on, and always tried to be so positive around me, but that just made me feel worse. These books had a massive impact on me, as they allowed me to feel my feelings, altho it was also hard for me to process at 8yo haha ❤
Omg I love this! The book series is my entire childhood and I love it so much! The show is really good too and I’m so glad you decided to watch and learn about this amazing series 💜💜💜
ik you haven't seen the show, so i'll explain some things lol. i didn't see the movie so i might just repeat some things that were in the movie alr. BUT YOU REALLY SHOULD WATCH THE SERIES THEY ARE GREAT!! spoilers btw. 4:19 nah that's count olaf's theather troupe cuz he is an actor. they just came over to his house when this was sung. 4:39 he was talking to the baudelaires becasue they hella rich and olaf's really isn't. his whole goal is to steal their money. 6:19 if you watch the series you probably won't.
A series of unfortunate events is so good but sooooo sad! I grew up reading the books, I still remember having to wait like a year for the next one to come out so I could borrow it from the library lol. The TV show was more true to the books than the movie so I always recommend it over the movie. Plus the movie doesn't include all the book.
Oh please do more of these! ASOUE doesn’t get enough love! And there are so many other wacky moments from seasons 2 and 3 to enjoy 😂❤️ Great reaction!!
One of the best divergences from the books was changing the androgynous henchperson from a lumbering, barely human monster with zero dialogue, into a character with brooding, philosophical, angsty teen energy.
Speaking as someone who never read the books, this is a really good show worth watching, but it is also very sad. It plays sort of like a mystery adventure, but you have to just accept at the outset you will never get all the answers. You'll get most, enough to form a picture of events, but there will be gaps and holes and misdirects everywhere. The whole thing is told from the perspective of a narrator Lemony Snicket (Patrick Warburton) following the trail of events of the Baudelaire children sometime after events unfold. So some questions will go unanswered and some characters faits are left ambiguous. But if you can accept all that it really is a good story worth following with many proposed questions of morality, injustice, and what it means to be a good person.
You NEED to react to an album called Evelyn Evelyn. It’s SO good and underrated. Especially the songs „Evelyn Evelyn“, „Sandy Fishnets“ and „A campaign of shock and awe“
Can't wait for the Epic the musical video! The next saga is coming out on feb 14th 😍😍 also, pleaseee consider doing another video of songs from the lightning thief musical :D

Have a lovely day!😊
THIS IS MY FAVORITE SHOW I'M GLAD YOU REACTED THIS
I read this book series when I was in late elementary and early middle school, and it majorly impacted me.
The guy who is singing in the car is basically just like singing to the radio and he isnt sad in the show thats y hes happy
Omg I love this! The book series is my entire childhood and I love it so much! The show is really good too and I’m so glad you decided to watch and learn about this amazing series 💜💜💜
What i love about the ontro is that in each 'arc' a part of the intro changes explaining whats going to happen
this show is actually so fun i remember watching it with my sisters when it was coming out i’m so glad you reacted to it
This show is INCREDIBLE! I highly suggest you watch the whole show, the plot twists & drama are insane!!
I LOVE this show! And I love the music

if you watch the series you probably won't.
Clicked immediately. Im so excited to see your reactions to this!
The ankle tease 😂😂😂
This show is perfect for out of context reactions! Hope you do more!
I love the It’s the count song lol
Edit: the whole show is incredible ❤
All I can hear listening to that one is "How does it feel / To treat me like you do?"
One of the best divergences from the books was changing the androgynous henchperson from a lumbering, barely human monster with zero dialogue, into a character with brooding, philosophical, angsty teen energy.
You definitely need to see the show! It's honestly amazing!
The cool thing is the theme song changes for each book which is every 2 episodes. And not just the images the summary of the plot for book
More people really need to watch this show. As someone who read the books as a kid, I enjoyed it.
I love this show so much but at the same time it is so heart wrenching and i cry everytime
I honestly love this show and book series so much.
Let's get a list of musicians up for Matthew! I've got the violin and the flute covered, what other instruments do we have for the back-up band?
Mathew if you do a reaction to this series you'd be like the first big UA-camr to do so
Please do I LOVE this show
YES IM VOUCHING FOR THIS TOO. We need his reaction to it ASAP!!!
yesterday 3rd time rewatching this series, everytime i finished sobbing
I'm so freaking excited that you're reacting to this, it's so so tragic and weird
I love this show so much and 1000% recommend watching it, might actually go rewatch it because of this video
I watched the movie like years ago with my mother and my sister. After that I never thought about it again until now. Thank you 😂
Each of the 13 books also started with telling the reader not to read the book. Because it was just so sad.
IM OBSESSED WITH A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS THIS IS THE HOLY GRAIL OMFG
THIS IS MY FAVORITE SHOW 😭😭😭

"how did you know our parents were in the piano"
"i took the picture-"
"The context for these clips might be weirder than the clips themselves" Yes. Yes, they are Mathew. I definitely recommend watching.
Somehow, this show comforts me
The way I cackled at the piano joke
Funny in the show, even funnier watching Mat experience it without context
Who else watched the show When you were young and just couldn’t stop
The fact that he didnt mention Chasing Your Schemes is criminal
The animal is not talking he just is interpreting what the sound the croc made means.
That’s not how the story goes is the end of the first season! Not the whole show! It fits beautifully there.
You NEED to react to an album called Evelyn Evelyn. It’s SO good and underrated. Especially the songs „Evelyn Evelyn“, „Sandy Fishnets“ and „A campaign of shock and awe“
OHMTHEGSOSGD EHEYS
Can't wait for the Epic the musical video! The next saga is coming out on feb 14th 😍😍
also, pleaseee consider doing another video of songs from the lightning thief musical :D
I never hear anybody talk about this show! It was so good!
HES THE COUNT HES THE COUNT HE'S DA COUNTTTT

Im HANDSOME and TALENTED and I love your bank accounttttttt
I love this series so much despite it being a trainwreck
I was literally playing ASOUE music last night. How perfectly timed.🥹 Beatrice’s humming/theme is another short but beautiful song.
The world is quiet here.
Matthew, you need to watch this it is so worth the multipule hours
Matt thank you for inspiring me to rewatch the show.
