This helps me immensely. I'm about to do a ton of patching on a 1970 Karmann Ghia. It's one of my first welding projects. It's not going to be a show car. Just want it to be solid and look OK from 20 ft away. I know that it won't look great up close but anyone that is a DIY person like me will appreciate the work I put in.
Quick and dirty and turned out fine. I like the work done here.
Mike lad, you make this process look so easy, but you and I know it takes a lot of skill, patience and the right tools to do it correctly. Don't be so modest, you are an artist ! Thanks for sharing, and I'm 77 so I can call you "lad" OK? Best regards from Ireland.
you bet thanks for the comment I love to hear from older guys hopefully it inspires the next gens who think everything needs to be 1st class $100k show.
You're doing a nice job Mike. I always like those old Fords.
Gotta love the purist who want to spend other peoples money on perfection!! When you are paying for it you can do it the way you want!
You are doing a good job Mike :)
Looks awesome Mike!
this really works for me, your skill level is so awesome to follow along, Mike txs for sharing your skills
I like your theory Mike. Ask the "so called" metal worker perfectionist how long their projects take. They have probably been working on the same ride for 20 plus years!! LOL I'd rather be driving mine for 20 years!
Btw you’ve upped the music game lately!
the new stuff that just came out is better than some of the old stuff. I like this Neffex artist he is pretty good for allowable youfube music.
main thing is you cut the rust out not just fill over it
looks good as you said its not a show truck
Thanks Mike Good work as always ! I notice when you plasma cut out a part of the cutout had a second layer . But it didnot cut all the way into the second layer ? Straight Ahead ✌😎
yea it was a bit spitty. throwing lava all over but it did work. Gotta be on your game not to cut all the way through.
I see you found that neffex posted songs for us to use. I like them! Kool new project!
yea his stuff is fun. Like the artist.

the plasma cutter seems to do a great job, my question anout that range of machine is the availability of the consumables, sometimes, they use specific consumables that are not available elsewhere that on their site.
amzn.to/36wdtM7 Here on amazon pretty cheap. I just got them and they are exactly the same. 29.99 for a lot of them. and they last longer so far IMO than the other cheap ones. That auto light thing is AWESOME....cut through thick paint and thinner bondo. Pops a hole in seconds.
@mike fn garage - I attempted a cut and butt patch yesterday on a curved fender, wasn’t great…. Probably my technique but was wondering if cut and butt is best suited for flat only pieces?
Hey Mike ! what motor is he going to use , 302 ?
the frame and other parts are in KY....He already has the cab assembled. This is the remaining parts for the truck. I just did what I could to help my buddy out. This guy helped him back in 2005 when he was in a major rough patch. Trying all this time to get the truck done.
