I love your videos. In my 7th grade intensive reading class I teach a version of this/ R.A.C.E. So topic sentence, evidence (citation), elaboration, evidence (citation), elaboration. It’s difficult to teach good writing when the state wants us to follow a formula. I’m so sick of reading “the text states.” Thank you for the analysis diagram too!
The R.A.C.E. framework is a great tool! I'm so glad you have found my videos helpful. I'm definitely trying to relay the same good writing habits and skills that my own teachers instilled in me.
Hello there, I trust all is well. I have been struggling with my literature essay for sometime now, this shift occurs soon after the first semester when my previous lecturer made a critic on my work. Instead of regaining a new idea or insight, I lost of all hope in my writing skills and how to write literary text. I am currently busy working tirelessly on my assignment, and I have been watching different video that will help me to improve myself. I must say confess this video helped me alot, and thank you for your tireless efforts to assist us.
Thank you for watching! Sorry to hear that you lost hope when you received that criticism from a lecturer. Trust me, I've been there! But the time you're spending to sharpen your writing skills will definitely pay off.
It is my first time ever trying to write a literary analysis essay. It is an assessment about the novel 'This Side of Paradise' by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Thank you for this video it is helpful. I am a science university student but taking a humanities (philosophy/sociology/political science) based course about the environmental crisis and literary analysis is not something I’ve done since high school (a long time ago as a mature student). I read Daniel Quinn’s Ishmael but now have to analyze it in the context of some of the papers we read through the semester e.g. in context of the deep ecology movement or the idea of socially constructed denial. My issue is that I have too many ideas and I don’t know if I should be talking more about the mechanisms in the book or the ideas in the papers. Not much instruction was given. Any ideas?
I am analyzing "Lusus Naturae" by Margaret Atwood. Thanks for the great detail on how to make the thesis statement connect the body paragraph. I think I'm getting the idea as my professor let me know my free write itself was great!
Our son is stuck on 4 out of 6 points in AP Lit class essays. How do you identify an abstract idea? Is there an actual way to do it-or a trick for those of us trying to help out?
One way to identify an abstract idea is by starting out with one word or emotion (ex. pride, greed, disillusionment). From there, start to think about what message the author is trying to convey about that concept. This video on how to write a theme statement may help you identify abstract ideas: ua-cam.com/video/R5mfJoRkruU/v-deo.html. Hope this helps!
@@MsPeerEditor Great explanation! Many incorrectly teach theme as one word, but that's just the thematic idea (or abstract idea) as you stated. Your thorough explanations and examples in your videos are helpful for myself and my high school scholars. Keep up the great work!
Hi! I don't have a video on writing a prospectus, but this video demonstrates how you can analyze a short story step by step: ua-cam.com/video/zkQB_wPDCcc/v-deo.html
