NEO: The World Ends With You Review - The Final Verdict

- NEO: The World Ends with You is that rare thing, a long awaited and belated sequel to a cult classic that ends up thoroughly recreating the brilliance of the original, while pushing against its boundaries.
That it has more shortcomings and failings than the original did comes down to it being a far more ambitious game as well, and in the end, even with the flaws it does have, NEO: The World Ends with You delivers an experience that at the very least manages to stand side-by-side with the original, if not outright exceed it in many ways. Whether you're a long time fan of the original who's been eagerly awaiting the follow-up for fourteen years, or a newcomer jumping in now to see what all the fuss has been about for all this time, you're in for a great ride. - Ігри
Where do these reviewers keep getting the pronunciation "Niku" from? Especially now - they say his name with voice acting so many times in this game lol.
My guess is they have different people write the script and then just have this guy read it.. it happens all there time on these big review channels where they mispronounce characters names, so I assume that's why.
@0:23 it literally says it's written and voiced by 2 different people, so yeah that's why
It’s been voice acted since at least 2012 with Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance. Sora lampshades the lack of last names for the Kingdom Hearts original characters when observing that Neku Sakuraba is a mouthful to say.
How does one mispronounce unrequited? It sounds like it was written unrecoited in the script!
they even say "NEC - KU" in the trailer, i hate this review
Its a fun game no dull moment especially with the new pins. Awesome soundtrack and My fave game for July releases. Its a good year for Jrpgs.
Agreed. I'm still playing the great ace attorney though, but so far Neo is my favorite game this year
@@corywashington9580 Nice! Will be picking Ace Attorney Chronicles along with Hades next week. When Hades releases Im on a PS4 Slim.
It is obvious that the person narrating this review didn't play the game but was rather reading off of a script written by someone who did. It isn't Niku but rather Neku, and it isn't Nagu but rather Nagi (The script must have a typo that clearly the narrator didn't know since he didn't play the game). Also, when pointing out the fixed camera angles, I assumed you were talking about the exploration outside of battle. However, during that talking point, you were just showing battle gameplay where you can freely adjust the camera angle. It gives off the impression that the battle scenarios themselves are the ones that have a fixed camera angle which is incorrect and misleading. As much as I appreciate the score you gave the game, I really can't say this review really justified why.
ik im 2 years late for this, but ty for this comment. I also thought he was talking about fixed camera angles during battles and it almost turned me off from playing the game at all.
Been playing it all week and I get the same feeling as playing the first. It's great
me too, brother.
I know nothing about it can I play as a newbie
Rin? He’s called Rindo, and gets called Rindude by Fret, Lord Rindo by Nagi and Rindragon by Swallow, but never Rin. Can’t even blame this on the reader mispronouncing it, unless they think the do in Rindo is silent.
My RPG of the year so far...that is until Tales of Arise comes out lol
Try Scarlet Nexus and Ys IX Monstrum Nox. Good Jrpgs too.
@@blackwingninja1195 Scsrlet Nexus is really good. The story is very interesting and the combat is well designed.
I did play Scarlet Nexus. I liked it. Bit TWEWY Neo is better
@@blackwingninja1195 Monstrum Nox was very disappointing imo.
14 years later, here we are. The game is finally available.
This may just be my favorite game...I cannot put it down and I beat it a week ago...
Same bro I was hyped to play the game but I wasn’t expecting it to be my favorite game ever it’s so good
Same here. I just had so much fun with this game I didn’t except to like it more then the original but I do.
Question for everyone. When I changed difficulty from normal to harder, it slashed my hp in half. Despite changing it back to normal it won’t give me my hp back. Does anyone know why?
The difficulty (easy, normal, hard) does not affect your HP. Your HP are bound to the level-meter. You can raise or lower your level to manipulate drop rates. This system is totally independent of the difficulty :)
You just sold me the game.
Downloading on the PS4 right now.
My main problem with the game thus far is it feels a bit repetitive. And sure you could argue the original game was repetitive too, but the first game from what I remember was a much shorter experience, so it didn't feel like it overstayed it's welcome. I think I'm at the halfway point and I'm personally starting to get worn out from it gameplay wise. It sucks cause the story is interesting and I wanna see what happens next, but at times it feels like I gotta do a bunch of crap I don't find that interesting to get to that point. And maybe I'm speaking prematurely, maybe as the game goes along things will vary up the pacing, but it kinda feels like a lather rinse repeat type of affair and I get the impression it's not gonna change that much. I think most of the mechanics are fun and unique on their own, but when they're structured the way they are, it can start feeling like Groundhog Day.
Anyone who reads this, don't take this as me saying it's a bad game, I think it's good so far and maybe by the time I reach the end I'll even think it's great. But at times it does just feel like a standard fetch quest type of affair that I find myself wanting to rush through to get to the good stuff. It's kinda like how Persona 4, which is a fantastic game in my opinion, can start to drag during parts where you have to fetch for intel and you start to notice the pattern and get tired out by it.
I completely agree. I'm so burnt out by the repetitive gameplay and story and I was looking at reviews to see if anyone else felt the same. The music and mystery element is the only thing keeping me playing. Even the complete the day missions are repetitive, find this, find that, boss fight. It's way too easy on normal and hard, hard even makes it more boring as the fights are longer.
THIS comment alone is BETTER than the full review
This game does has my interest and looks fun 🤩
Get the ps4 version. Its locked 60fps. Switch version is variable between 20 to 40 fps w/ no 30 fps cap
I loved the switch version and didn't really have any issues. Playing in handheld before bed was amazing. Like reading a good book before bed
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Sub par results of arrested development and termanator.
The reason for those not continuing well is the same as most things made today then quickly going bad. Too little attempt at quality and too much check boxing, message making, copy paste, and lecturing in the product.
When he said neku name like that I almost threw up
Just wish the first game would come to PS4.
Nice
This game kicked so much ass I almost passed it up cuz the beginning was so boring how much I don't regret it such a great story and fun gameplay
Hello guys
I liked Neku 🤷♂️
Deeeecent
That frame rate though
That’s specifically why I haven’t dropped into this one.. I can deal with a game running at 30 but when it runs super unsteady like this it just gets me the wrong way. I’ll wait till they update it and fix some of the issues… if they do
@@danquaza9275 they’ve fixed it with the day one patch
@@danquaza9275 i think it's only on switch. I'm playing on ps4 and got 0 drop
@@TheDarkYuno Even on switch it's fine
Framerate is fine on ps4. Runs at 60fps.
I was really disappointed. It took me 50 hours to beat story mode. Do I want to go back to collect every pin? No. Collect all the clothes food and music? No. Finish on the highest level of difficulty? No. They should have made Neku the lead or make it parallel to the new characters they introduce? Yes. I say this because playing the game, I wanted to follow the original cast because I was already invested in their stories
Time to move on my dude, new scene and new cast
I 100% disagree that these characters are superior. If you think the originals aren’t fleshed out clearly you haven’t payed attention to the story. Those are some of the best written, most complex, best developed characters I’ve ever seen. These characters don’t have nearly as clear arcs or development, and don’t connect to me nearly as well as the originals. I just kept hoping to see the old ones, though I liked the new ones okay, they just didnt have the same ompf as the originals. Besides, it’s clear you don’t know the originals anyway. Nee-ku? Oh please.
Definitely a GOTY contender
First like!!!!👍👍👍
uhhhhhhh.............the terminator franchise is anything but "cult". It's one of the most popular film franchises of all time.
Social Links... ugh.
So its social-sim trash just like Persona?
This looks like a Anime Style Kingdom Hearts
I mean it IS just that. It's another take on KH made by the same author.
The main character looks near identical to a character in Kingdom Hearts (Roxas)
@@Scrabble12 I didn't notice that
Kingdom Hearts is an anime style Kingdom Hearts.
@@sarthakarora3212 Nomura didn’t write or direct for either TWEWY or NEO.
the way how beat speaks is cringy, a mix between a made up urban speech and some time switches into formal speech
Personally I didn't like it
Don't give up on it I thought it was wicked boring at first but it gets so so damned good
JRPGs have absolutely not "mounted a comeback."
Lol okay
Sureeeeeee
They seem to be doing well enough
I certainly would say so. Honestly, I think the turnaround happened in 2017.
Final Fantasy VII Remake anyone? The much anticipated remake to the game that allowed Final Fantasy to break into the western market.
