Unnecessary Inventions is the brainchild of product designer Matty Benedetto, where he designs & builds 2-4 brand new products each week that solve problems that don't exist.
Maybe add a functionality to shake up the compartments periodically so that the pieces stuck at an awkward angle, or smaller pieces stuck above a larger piece can pass through to their actual compartment
Like a slider at the bottom of the connect 4 game
Good idea, the tube should have like a motor connected to it that would keep it constantly vibrating so that each piece stuck at an awkward angle will eventually get sifted through.
Vibrator
you know you could just manually shake it at the end, but I think it would be great to see this project over-engineered
Fins at an angle on each bottom side to direct airflow may agitate them enough to ensure the sorting.
This is great ! I would add one more layer at the end for the dust . So if there is any dust while vacuuming it would be easy take the last one with dust and dispose the dust in the garbage.
this is probably one of the most useful ones yet. literally throw your bin of lego across the floor and go over it with this
This one would be awesome for preschool and big families with young kids. I think the manual one would be better for us just needing organising. more eco friendly!
Yes
Biggest issue with it is it doesn't look like it actually sorts them properly
@@shalimarlake7852 yeah
@@shalimarlake7852 yeah, he definitely cheated a little to make it look like it performed better than it does. The main problem is that the holes up top get blocked up, so smaller pieces can't get through. He'd need some kind of agitator to shake them up and allow the small pieces to get through the holes.
Also, the "print only the infill for better flow" approach was probably counterproductive, since it would disperse the suction force over the whole surface of the filter, rather than suck pieces toward the holes. With some kind of basic agitator, like what you see in high-end shop vacs in order to prevent the filter getting clogged, and properly printed parts, this could actually work, but it would be way more complicated and way more work than just printing a few disks with cutouts.
Jumping Jerry should be the name for the Robo Dog
Yes
Pizza
It’s too comon
Your inventions are getting more and more useful over time.
This is awesome. With maybe a few more designs, it could be 99% accurate, as you can see some got stuck once the bigger pieces came in, but still got me to sub
“These things are too expensive!”
Matt 2 minutes before:
“I just bought a robot dog!”
True
The robot dog probably cost less than those Lego.
Doggy Mc Dogface!
@@chubbysumo2230 ?
@@chubbysumo2230 per ounce? The legos absolutely cost more than the robot lol
Thats actually really smart idea
You should name the dog T.U.R.D. or
TOTALLY
UNNECESSARY
ROBOT
DOG
Lool
Y.e.s
Yo
Everything should like
Sir you are smart
This is the way.
yesssss
This is the way
Bro imagine just saying “pick those Lego off the floor”
The only problem is the big bricks build up on top trapping some of the small bricks, but other than that, where can I buy one?
I mean, sure, but any mechanical agitation should allow the smaller pieces to filter through.
@@tonberryking42 so tape a vibrator to it and it's good?
I need it
NOW
Ok but I saw big lego pieces, how did they get through the tube?
Very useful product. One modification I would attempt to make to see if it would work correctly is to try an air mattress pump. Some of those pumps pull and push quite a bit of CFM air and would make it more compact without the need for a shopvac
Calling this invention "useless" is an understatement, this is the most useful
You can just pour the bin full of Legos into the top, and eliminate the vacuum cleaner.
LEGO bricks, never legos!
In all seriousness though, this is far from unnecessary, I would use this in my studio all the time!
what item are you use
Really usefull invention, perhaps another filter for the realy small parts that are 0,7 mm in diameter / square.
And a nice name for the robot-dog could be Lego-las.
It's a dog, not an archer lmao
Nah joe
So I’m curious how does the infill pattern increase suction? I would’ve thought the more airflow there’d be less suction. Now instead of all the air pulling through the holes its spread out over a way larger area. But either way pretty interesting
I would honestly buy this. My son's room is a landmine of Legos
My room is filled with Lego
rip
Yes 🤣 I I definitely need it
Just divorce your son
My son might enjoy the vacuum more than the legos. Lol
I don't know how unnecessary your inventions are, but necessary is the greatest understatement to describe this one. I've been brought here by watching hours of similar diy solutions, but I've never thought I could connect the two shop vacs I have at home to one of these - I might even buy a third for the ultimate Suck It 9000
I approve of this!!
Holy i am first :D
@@azurakakya8868 how dare you i am second
What how
Every time I watch his videos I get so jealous of how amazing his makerspace house is
I just printed something for the first time yesterday with no infill on the top and bottom. It acts as baffles in a speaker it seems to work well you can definitely hear the bass more.
Wait but that's not an unnecessary invention! We need more like this. I want one, but I need a new shop vac.
Mine went through a garage fire. It sounds horrible, even after I wd40d the bearings. So hook me up with a shop vac too, lol
When I was a kid, my dad made me something similar (but a bit more primitive) to this: A bead vaccuum! :D He put two holes in the lid of a medium/large jar, put a plastic hose in each hole, and attatched one of the hoses to the sucking end of an electric air matress pump.. :P I could then use that to pick up all the pearls and beads I had dropped on the floor while playing with them! :D Honestly, witnessing all of my dads ideas while growing up really made me love invention and innovation.. ^^
I love this! My sisters and I used to have a baby toy that (when shaken) sorted various-sized mini-spheres in a similar-yet smaller- multi-level cylinder. You know what would be cool? For another LEGO accessory, people would love a plastic dome to house completed LEGO projects without having to destroy them, and which would simultaneously serve as translucent mobile cases, each molded to cover the entire [architectural] surface area, correspondingly. i.e., White House, Guggenheim, etc.
It's always sad to see channels like this one not staying true to their origins. This invention is just way too necessary to be found on "Unnecessary Inventions" ;)
I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work!
I'm pretty sure he always somewhat didn't stay true to that. i feel like it's always been a bit sarcastic. most of his videos are" never in hell would i have thought of that but it's absolutely necessary" kidnapping videos
EDIT: *KINDA
Unnecessary does not mean useless
Necessity could be added to the invention by using it for sorting at a recycling plant.
The dog should be called Bark Rober!
omg yes
I was going to come up with a clever name but damn I don't think I can do better than this lol.
Yes
5:16 the pink 2x4 falls down to the wrong segment ;)
This is one of the best inventions, as a huge Lego fan with at least a couple hundred thousand to my name, and constantly building on the floor, this would be great
0:06
Needles, and Screws: are we a joke to you?
I think 2 things that would truly take this to the next level would be rubber gaskets between each section to reduce the air slipping out of the space in between the 3d printed rings. And secondly a small offset motor spinning to gently vibrate the chamber would be great to make sure the small pieces don't get stuck on the ledges.
You don't need a second motor, but a fan blade in each chamber, which would turn with the suction, and keep the pieces from getting stuck. It could be 3d printed to mount onto the bottom of the component above it with a 1m steel rod for an axis. This is actually a pretty good invention, speaking as a grandfather with a grandson who has many Lego blocks.
Fins at an angle on the bottom of each level will stir them all and ensure that all get sorted correctly
This also reminds me of the LEGO vacuum from the LEGO Batman games.
Was looking for this comment
i tihnk the reason lego is painful is cuz its tiny
btw to anyone who is thinking or is saying this this is necesarry, its not. specifically the sorting part, people sort legos either from colour or from type, like 1x1 brick with 1x1 brick or 1x1 red brick with 1x2 red bricks, etc etc. not by size, thats kinda useless, the vacuum part is very useful
If you put string instead of plastic - like a tennis racket. Then there would be no shaking nessasary as it would not be able to balance
1:36 I’m a big LEGO fan, but I agree.
Lego should contact him to make this an actual sellable product.
I'm sure there's tons of people who would love this. From parents/caregivers who want to quickly pick up the kids Legos. To adults who want their Legos quickly sorted so they can get started on their new masterpiece of complexity.
Also can be used in competitions.
i' juåst take myp duåal mo¨to¨r vacuåuåm and clean u all o¨f i't p
I need this!
You should add an even smaller compartment for any dirt it picks up
It's still attached to a shop vac... So all of the dust will still end up in the shop vac bin
Printers can't print that small and it is already attached to a vaccum why would you need a dust compartment
Maybe just a dust filter at the bottom
The output of the Lego sorter goes into the Shop Vac itself, which already has the filter to catch any dirt.
NAME IT LA QUEDA YES THE DOG NAME IT LA QUEDA
You should call your “dog” zoro and make him a croc collar
Name of the robot dog
Rodo
1:30 yep lego is already plural
1:25 I love you man, everyone is always saying that it's LEGO not LEGOS.
Also, nice mustache.
A tromel would work better at the sorting. Have the entire tromel system inside a larger container(lego bin) to contain the vacuum. The in port feeds in the uphill side of the tromel and has a fairly fine mesh, then get coarse and eventually gets to lego sized holes. Suction comes from the first section of the tromel with the fine mesh. From there gravity takes over and the rotating action of the tromel breaks the legos away from the suction permitting them to continue down the tromel and be sorted.
Bonus points, add a spraybar to wash the lego as it goes through the tromel.
Also the original design is far too small and fills up too fast. Anyone who needs one of these has far too much lego for this thing.
Holy smokes this is a good idea. I had to look up what a tromel is, but this would solve the issue of losing suction as each bin fills up.
I saw this video forever ago. Today, I just saw a clip from Shark Tank and the start of the “Pick Up Bricks” Lego vacuum. The timeline seemed to be a bit after this. When I was watching that video, I instantly remembered this. I wonder if they also saw this 🤔
If it also sorts by colors, you're my man 😆
Anyone else here because they mentioned this invention on the latest Office Ladies Podcast?
5:37 how did the green big piece fit in the small vaccuum hose?
he bullshiting it. I have this invention at home too, I used a dyson V15 as the vacuum. Much more suction. And the big green piece will not fit any vacuum holes.
@@LinhLinhBD chill I know he's just joking. He opened the tube and obviously put the big piece in
Lego Batman 1 vibes
I feel like your inventions just keep getting more and more necessary.
You can improve it easier by at the flat parts of the coloured sorters, make it slopes so Lego won’t get stuck there
Wow, you've grown your channel so much. I remember when you had like 10k subs, great job man :)
Mr Beast video was helping a lot and shorts ofc.
I believe many sizes of Lego can slide through any size of hole if it enters the hole end first... right? Every Lego end piece is around the same size
3:49 Unnecessary
Inventions
This device would be perfect for schools and daycare centers if they own Lego
You should test it on duplo bricks
Name him Georgie
Seeing Daddy Wallace in a hot tub and yelling "SUCK IT!" really awakened something in me. Glad his vision has come to life.
I'd replace the holes in the classifier plates with just plain grates of differing grid size, there'd be less for the bricks to catch on and more airflow.
My younger sister told me you can name it Barry
I like how when he started the “commercial” there was a huge flat green lego in the canister knowing damn well its to big to fit
It needs a larger opening for the vacuum to get more legos at once to be more satisfying, but anybody could probably do that themselves
LEts GO! This invention is awesome!!
Oliver name for the robot dog
make a add on that covers the bit that goes into the vacuum so the smallest pieces can get filterd
"just suck it" really got me😂
It seems to work fine for large and medium pieces, but what about the really small ones, like 1 point studs? Do they get sucked straight into the shop-vac?
This is actually pretty useful
Do you know how many times this would've came in handy when my son was younger? He's 17 now and has tons of Legos. I will say though he's made some amazing things.
if you could make the layers shake as they suck it might be even more effective
The real answer to the "LEGO'S" controversy is.... THERE IS NO PLURAL. LEGO is the brand, the company, and there's only one of those. Just call them LEGO blocks or pieces. Like the rest of the world 😁
5:26 why man's look like a super villain
Jermy should be his name
4:53 coke-heads be like
Aaron Rodgers is soo smart
3:52 you should name him your million subscriber
I am going to show this to my nearly 8 year old who loves Lego and is always inventing things.
Rover, is the best dog name ever.
I am sure parents would love these.
Lego croc vacuum with a house with an extension next to it this is what looking through the poppy ment regarding the financial hub in Turkey
Stepping on Lego feels good
Build a chair where if you put 2 dollars the chair will open and to close it it should have a motion sensors where it detects when you stand up it closes
Ok, mean guy here. This is not a Lego sorter, it's a Lego filter. I would say it's very unnecessary. A sorter would be able to sift by color and function as well as size. There's no way to prevent small Legos from becoming aspirated into the vacuum. There's no way to keep dirt from staying in the filter. All your geometry is completely flat and therefore small pieces sometimes stay in the wrong filter screen.
Oh man Adam Savage needs this
The name should be loofy for the dog
1:36
If we're gonna be well and truly pedantic, the individual pieces aren't LEGOs, but simply "bricks". LEGO is the brand. 😛
robot dog + shop vac lego sorter = automatic lego picker upper
I at least appreciate that you recognized that the plural of LEGO is in-fact LEGO.
I NEED this attachment!
You should use a DUST collector design ... where the heavy stuff falls down
