Mae west deserves a much bigger and better biopic in my opinion. I know at one point years ago there was talk of Bette Midler portraying her which I thought would have been amazing. I think a film with her playing Mae later in life would be great

Loved the movie, I think Anne Jillian captured the essence of the fabulous Miss Mae West!
Very well made feature although Ann Jillian reminds me more of Jean Harlow than of Mae West (I adore both of them 🙂 , each of them were unique ). Too bad that the film is not complete 😞
Anne is no Mae West. Mae West was thick, not rail thin. Bette Midler would have been a perfect Mae.
Is there a part 2 to this film , it seems to just stop? It is most enjoyable and being a fan on Mae West since a child and having numerous books about her life and her films on DVD

I'm just watching this today (26/7/24) and wanted to see the ending as well and it is on Prime Video for free at the moment . Don't know how long they will have it for though , that's if you are still wanting to see the ending 🙂
It's still on Prime and still free as of 10/6/24. I almost wish I hadn't looked for it and watched the end, though. It was all about her realizing that she really did love the James Brolin character. While I'm sure Mae had feelings, those final scenes made it look like he conquered her. NOBODY conquered Mae West.

This movie doesn't do Mea West Justice! I had to stop watching after 4:32 minutes.
Ms. Jillian does do her best. It's a hard task I think to do. Mae, west, first of all, maywest, was very short and wore those eye platform shoes, which Is a very important part of her life. Her character, you need a short chubby, a talented woman to Play this part, s

Ann is mis-cast in this film. Mae West was full-figured and bordered on chunky. She was impossible🎉 to recreate.
Hollywood just wasn’t casting full figured actresses in leading roles in 1982
The only person who could portray Mae is Mae. Mae is one of a kind.😊
She was curvy in the real sense of it and was also what is called "meaty-looking" which was obvious by the fact that while she was slim (not to be confused with slender) her collar bones could not be seen, she wasn't chunky and had no rolls, she had a flat tummy and slim legs, she was the literal definition of a short curvy woman.
Dolly Parton, at the time, would have been better.

I’m Gen X and liked the movie 🎥 and it had a great atmosphere. People can say what they think about it, moreover; especially this generation of people don’t even know who Mae West is!

This movie sucked and it wasn't accurate at all. They were better off not doing it. Mae West deserved much better.

Like Ann Jillian an actress since she was a child. Appeared as Baby June in the movie "Gypsy."
I agree that Jillian was miscast but she did give a great performance. Those who stated Dolly Parton would have been a better choice, I partially agree. At least physically, Parton was closer to West than Jillian ever was. Jillian here looks more like Carole Lombard, not Mae West.
I also did not realize how beautiful Piper Laurie was. I guess I've watched "Carrie" too many times and it's the only role I always associate with her, but she looks lovely here.

Ann Jillian did a good job capturing Mae's spirit and sense of humor but she just didn't inhabit the role. Mae was what would be called a full figured lady so Ann was definitely smaller than the real Mae was. But Ann did get an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Mae so she must have done something right. And some of the musical numbers, like the first one "You Have To See Momma Every Night", I don't believe Mae ever performed that song, nor would she have dressed like Ann did in that number. Mae would show some cleavage and her shoulders but never exposing herself that way. Mae dressed sexy and provocatively but without showing too much skin, she liked to entice but keep the men guessing and begging for more. If they'd do a new Mae West biopic, I could see Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco playing Mae
