yes, or isopropyl alcohol
otherwise there is a high risk of damaging the cablen

Man you doing this all wrong. First you must connected the ear speaker-light sensor flex assembly from the old screen to the new in order to make it power on. The first screen you used was 99,999% fine. Second, there is a fix for the problem this iPhone had. You just use a lighter igniter in some screen pads to fix this or at least you could try it before you brutally open the original screen.
