    Holy crap, thank you, thank you, thank you!! After night after night of waking every 1-3 hrs, I had my suspicions about the dummy. Took it away yesterday morning - was a very very rough day for naps and just general crankiness and I fully expected a terrible night… she went to bed at 7, woke at 9 (me thinking… oh boy) then at 4! Self settled at 2:30 and 5 (the time she was been waking up and thinking it’s time to party) and slept till 7!! Maaaasssive improvement!!! Wooo!

    My 3 and a half month old actually hasn't been sleeping at night with the paci and she is still sleeping wonderfully. We actually use it to help her burp after a feeding before we have to assist. She does still use it when it comes to napping outside of the crib but, I think she is starting to tell us she doesn't want it anymore because she spits it out a lot more freuqnetly now.

    My older brother had the roof of his mouth messed up from thumb sucking too long, it was literally the shape of his thumb to where the dentist couldn't fit his thumb on the roof of his mouth. Its a fear of mine, my daughter likes sucking her fingers but I worry about it later if it continues.

    • @littlezsleep
      @littlezsleep  2 роки тому

      Hey there! Thumb sucking is perfectly okay, especially as a self-soothing mechanism! There is no research that supports thumb sucking as a baby will affect speech development. However, if there is prolonged use and it continues well into toddler or preschool years, it can affect formation of the teeth. We recommend helping children close to the age of 3 years old transition away from thumb sucking. The goal is to help them not suck their thumb during the day. If they still use their thumb to fall asleep, that short period of time that they are using their thumb will not cause any long-term effects!

    I once had a 25 year old coworker that would suck her thumb. She was driving us to a meeting and we hit traffic, I heard her mumble something but I couldn’t understand what she had said so I glanced over to ask her to repeat herself (I assumed she was eating something…) That’s when I realized she had her thumb in her mouth. 😅 I’m sure that’s not common but had to share as I’ll never forget it. I must have had a stunned look on my face bc she proceeded to explain herself. Apparently she had this habit and it would happen subconsciously when she was very stressed. In spite of the thumb sucking she was kind, smart and good at her high stress job. It’s been decades since I worked with her but I would guess her future had many wet handshakes. Hope she’s well.

    Hi, I've been watching your videos because the paci is driving me crazy. She is a good sleeper I dont want to complain much... But at about 3 months she started Rolling back to belly and belly to back and the paci keeps falling out, she is having 30 min naps in the Day, and has 2 night feedings(bottle).i have a nigth rutine, 7 pm feedings, bath, song, paci, bed... She sleeps in her crib in her room from 2 month. She was asleep in 5 min until now, and now is half an hour of putting the paci back. My oldest was a tumb sucker and It was a bliss, but every body kept saying paci is better so this time I gave a paci(woow how wrong was I)
    My question is, is 3 and a half months too young to sleep train and get rid of the paci or to wait 4.5 months?

    Thankfully, our daughter hasn't been huge in the pacifier. Sure, we used it maybe in the first handful of months, but we phased them out rather easily by month 4. She didn't seem too big into them even then, so maybe that's why.

    We are day 2 of ditching the pacifier, my 4 month old did great for the first week of sleep training and then like you said, we still used the pacifier during this training. It was like starting at square one-having to put the paci in his mouth every hour at night and naps are short! He was already half and half with taking a paci or using his fingers. I must say that I think your statistics on when children sucking on their fingers stop at age 1 is a little off, I stopped when I was about 7-8 (at night, teeth were jacked up), my brother in law needed a mouth appliance to be placed by orthodontist, my daughter finally stopped last year after 3 mouth appliances (that she broke until finally the last one finally worked). All that being said, I still think I will let my baby suck his fingers, because it seems like he prefers his fingers but is right at that age where he’s not exactly coordinated enough to put fingers in his mouth when he needs to self soothe-he’ll figure it out!! I just wan to let people know before making this decision. It’s an expensive decision!! Possible orthodontic appliance, braces! Just FYI

      Hey there! Thank you so much for sharing your story, and we definitely understand that some children continue to choose their thumb as a soother past 12 months old. Over the years we have found that if a child is going to choose to suck on their thumb, nothing will really stop that. If a pacifier stays through the toddler years, at some point it will need to go away, in which the thumb can still easily be used. In this video I am sharing how and why the pacifier should be removed to promote better sleep habits. Again, I truly appreciate your story and we are grateful that you're here checking out our videos!

    Not difficult.
    You ask your communicating child IF you are ready for Santa/ The Easter Bunny to pick up your pacis and give them to little babies. IF so they will bring you a special gift. Get a bag/ basket and suggest the child collects their Binky's. Place them out for Santa or EB to pick up. When the child asks remind them they are gone....they were taken away. Let's spend time with that new gift.
