  • This video is about the safest place to live for Americans in Mexico. In this video we show you Ajijic Mexico. In this video we will be touring Ajijic. I guess you would call it an Ajijic walking tour.
You may want to retire in Mexico. You may want to retire in Ajijic. You may have heard of Ajijic and Lake Chapala. What is the difference, should you live in Ajijic or Lake Chapala? Also, you may be wondering, “Is Ajijic safe?”
If you are thinking of moving to Ajijic, then you want to watch the entire video. Again, we will be touring Ajijic, showing you the town square, the so called park, the place in Ajijic where can meet people and make friends.
Of course, many people are thinking about should they retire in Ajijic Mexico. If you are thinking about should your retire in Ajijic Mexico, then in this video we will tell you how to make friends, and live a peaceful joyful lifestyle. I would love to retire in Ajijic Mexico, but I'm very happy in Lake Chapala.
This video is about the safest place to live for Americans in Mexico and that would be Ajijic. Now, we did a video called, “The safest place to live for Americans in Mexico,” and we talked about living in Lake Chapala Mexico. Don't be confused, both places are very safe, and they are almost like one city. But, Ajijic Mexico is a little different than Lake Chapala, or Chapala as would be the correct way to say it. Living in Ajijic Mexico is a little different than living in Lake Chapala.
In this video you will see Americans living in Ajijic. You will see different types of housing in Ajijic Mexico. This video will answer many of your questions about living in Ajijic Mexico.
Some people are wondering, “Is Ajijic Mexico safe?” To Answer the question, “Is Ajijic Mexico safe,” we provide a safety tip at the very end of the video.
If you are thinking of moving to Ajijic, in this touring Ajijic video, like our Lake Chapala video, we will show you the church, the plaza, the Malicon and more. This video is all about living in Ajijic Mexico. This video is also about living in Lake Chapala Mexico because the two towns are so close together and share so many goods and services.

My Husband and I lived in Mexico City several years ago. We lived there for 2 years, and we tried to spend our weekends visiting all of the beautiful and unique places in Mexico. We visited most of the cities shown on this channel. However, until I began taking another look at Mexico, I had never heard of the town of “Ajijic.” What a pleasant surprise!
And this channel is awesome, Bill!

I lived in Dayton Ohio for 27 years! So needed a change so a friend and I took a road trip to Mexico and ended up in lake Chapala. Much needed dental implants, etc. done. We liked it there but found that rentals were expensive so we are now living in Puerto Vallarta with an exceptional 2 bdrm, 2 bath ocean view apartment way up on a hill with dipping pool on roof, everything included but electric for ONLY 700/month! We enjoy the lakeside area in summer so will be back for visits there.

Hi Thomas, thank you so much for the feedback. People, family, friends in the US always ask me, "When you coming Back?" I say "Never." I've been here for 16 years this month. I used to try to tell people in the US how much I love Mexico and why. I have up. I make these videos for people that I don't know. I think of my family and friends that have lived in the same house in the same city for all of their lives, in the cold, and I think, "What are you doing to yourself?"
Anyway, thanks again and enjoy another great day.

The school , with the wall of skulls is located near the Ajijic Plaza and across from the San Andreas church. The artist that created this (Efrem Gonzalez) has his Gallery just down this street. Each skull did cost some money and was donated by local people , who gave a name of a family member, who had died. Every year for Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) this entire wall is aglow , with yellow marigold flowers on Nov. 1st. ( All Saints Day) for children/babies that have died, or a lit candle the night of Nov. 2nd. (All Souls Day) , for other family members. There is a small hole located at the bottom of the skull face, that a metal tube is placed with a small disk attached. The flower or candle has a place to sit.

Hello. I love your video. It is so informative. Maybe you can answer a question for me. Why do some people move to a foreign country only to recreate their own country there? My husband and have been exploring the possibly of buying a second home in Mexico. We have found, though, that in places like Lake Chapala and Ajijic are desirable but the real estate prices in most cases are more expensive than those here in Florida. Actually, we paid less than half here for similar houses there. So, we are researching other towns because we won't be living there full-time.

    • @BillDallasLewis
      @BillDallasLewis  3 роки тому +1

I totally agree with you. Why come to Mexico to be around Americans. I came here to get away from Americans. The only reason I am in Chapala is because my Mexican wife wanted to move here from Gaudalajara. I really prefer Puerto Vallarta, but it is a bit pricey also. A lot of people, as you know, just rent in Mexico for 6 months, and then go back to there houses in the states. I don't see a reason to own down here. My wife has a thing about owning, so we own. Anyway, those are my thoughts. Best, Bill

If I wanted to live around gringos, I'd head north, there's a whole country full of them up there. Instead, I live in a nice old apartment (big rooms, 20 foot high ceilings) in an old part of Guadalajara. I looked at buying a house - but my rent is so inexpensive, I'll stay a renter. Guadalajara is much less expensive than Chapala or Ajijic, unless you are staying in the rich neighborhoods. The neighborhood I live in is within easy walking distance of the center of the city, there's an indoor market two blocks away, and the older parts of town are great to walk around in and explore. I don't walk on my own late at night here, I'm not as nimble as I used to be, but daytime and early evening are as safe as any US city I've lived in. The people are friendly, and if you speak some Spanish, and know and follow Mexican politeness customs, it's a great city to live in. It's got just about everything, but isn't full of gringos. There are a few neighborhoods with more gringos than mine - but it's easy to live your life here and not hear anyone speaking English in the streets for months at a time. I find Mexicans to be, in general, smart, thoughtful, and kind. I'm quite happy living here. And, on the very practical side, you can easily get home deliveries of bottled water, food deliveries from several good supermarket chains, and get delivery of food from local restaurants. And you can order stuff from Amazon Mexico or Mercado Libre, a similar site. It's a big modern city, but distinctly Mexican.

Could you perhaps do a video on the best methods for finding an apartment/house to rent in Ajijic/LC? What resources are available? How should one go about it? Maybe cover a few neighborhoods.
One note (recommendation). When you were walking thru the tianguis the camera was very shaky and it made me dizzy 🥴 lol. Perhaps try and hold the camera a little steadier or put it on a small tripod when you walk to have it remain steadier.

      Hi Money,
Monthly expenses. I can talk about mine, but I'll go back three years before I moved to Chapala.
In Puerto Vallarta I paid 8,000 pesos for rent. That was for an Apartment that was like a one room, Marriot Hotel with Swimming pool, marble floors, all brand new appliances and fully furnished. When i say fully furnished, I mean sheets, blankets, knives, forks, drinking glasses, coffee maker, Microwave, coffee cups, plates bowls, bathroom towels and more.
8,000 pesos a month included electricity, meaning air conditioning, cable tv and a deck on the third floor tha over looked a big part of the city.
8,000 pesos is about $400 per month US. I paid another 1,000 pesos for my cell phone, that included internet, thats about $50 US.
Other than that, it's all about food. I think I spent about$100.00 US on food. And that is a whole lot of really good food in Mexico if you shop at the street markets.
So, there Ya go. About $550 US per month for every thing.

I would like to bring my car when I move down. How do you feel about this? What is involved with getting a Mexican driving license and insurance? I unfortunately have a very small budget I had a catastrophic accident when I was 40 and had a small savings and now live on my disability insurance. I have learned to be good at budgeting. I would love to live somewhere my money would go farther. I have always loved Mexico and I can drive there. I currently live in Northern California near SF. As you said it’s very expensive. I pay about $500 US per year. Don't hold me to that, I don't have the bill in front of me. His name is Nacho, he is in Puerto Vallarta. I use him for my insurance all over Mexico.
Your American License is good down here until it expires, once that happens, you'll have to take the Mexican test. If your American is getting ready to expire, renew it up there, then you will have it for 4 years down here.
Make sure your car was not made in Japan. If it was, it can't get a license plate for it, you can't sell it, you would have to drive back to the states to sell it.

The altitude is about 5 thousand feet. Some, a few people have a problem with that. My cousin is renting a large, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom in the center of Ajijic for $650 US per month. It´s really big. Look around and you can find a good price.
      Good Luck,
      Bill

Is the lake safe to swim in?

      Hi Savannah,
I lived in the area for 4 years. I saw some children swimming in the lake one time. I would never swim in the lake nor would I eat the fish.

We came down in Oct to check it out. It's beautiful in pictures and videos, I didn't find it as pretty in person. After two days, I was ready to go home. You really have to like Mexico to live there. We live mostly in AZ and part-time at the beach in CA. Just a different world. 🙂
Those cobblestone streets and uneven sidewalks were enough for me. They are awful to walk on. 🙈

So true. You have to love Mexico to live. Here. I love it. You need to come down and hang out with my wife and I. We will rock your world. Thank you so much for your honest comment. Best . Bill the Geek

Tel sex!!!! What a concept!! Also love the Nordstrom tiengi!...actually that tiengi has the best tacos around! That bulletin board at LCS has the best leads for places to rent and things to buy. I go to Ajijic often and loved your tour and hope to meet u next time I visit ;) Dr. J

Hi Dr. J, thanks for dropping me a line. Yes, Tex Sex was a mistake, but I think it would be a great business for Carlos Slim. If you see me on the street, say hello. Best, Bill the Geek
