If you wanted a detailed book you had to get the cd version, comes with a 100 page hardback book in the same format as the Ultimate Imagine and Plastic Ono band box sets. I appreciate them not diminishing the cd release in order to match the vinyl like they have been doing with the Beatle box sets (at least in terms of the book, at least vinyl only buyers got all the tracks) but other then the cover, yeah the packaging in the vinyl set is kind of…boring and random looking.

This is a great camera angle choice. Great delivery and presentation.

Didn't have a problem with the remix but I totally agree with you about quality control crackles and clicks!

I got the RSD version and I thought it was pretty good. Lennon’s solo material is pretty thin on the ground to being with. It’s imaginative use of the source material that has been reissued within an inch of its life.

I bought the 2cd version when it came out. I liked the new mixes. Sorry that vinyl set was disappointing. Having those nice hardcover books with the Beatles box sets has been the highlight for me. That pamphlet is very weak.

This box set was easily one of the biggest disappointments for me, and for all the reasons you state. I didn't have the pressing problems you mentioned but the sound mix is just horrible. I put it right down there with the All Things Must Pass 50th Anniversary disaster. Both were the result of Paul Hicks' meddling.

Just curious to know about the quality control on the 2 disc version you purchased originally. Thx for the review!

the quality of the 2 LP version is pretty good. at least the one I have is good. vinyl has a bit of surface noise, but nothing terrible. for a modern pressing it's solid.

I'm usually an analog/vinyl guy but I purchased the CD formats of the Imagine and Plastic Ono Band box sets as they were easier to find. The quality control is much better than the LP sets with good remastering and great packaging. They have large informative books with amazing photographs and interesting historical & song information. Yoko Ono included a thank you note as I preordered.

I love mine , the first song Instant Karma skipped until I got a rega 3 anniversary turntable… now it doesn’t. Epic songs and running order .
I like John and the “ Gimme some truth “ line but I kept mine in the box .
I’m gonna listen to mine again , to ascertain the quality again . But I’m pretty sure it’s fine quality
Thanks for the vids .i appreciate them

Keep up your Vitamin D, Brian, check out the foods that have it. Important.
Good deal on the box set except for the actual box set. Good upfront review there.
I was going to add something, a book recommendation I think, or else some interesting historic info, but I've forgotten what it was now. This can happen when you get into your 60s.
Anyway, did get TREASURE TROVE OF THE BEATLES, a cool and quite cheap 2009 hardback 'book' format but about 50 pages only - - because the rest of it is enclosed reproduction memorabilia, gig tickets, vintage promo flyers, script samples, etc, on individual different paper stock and coloring. Not worth a ton of money, but at this cheap price it's real value for money. This is a book memorabilia format that has been and gone now, I think they figured it wasn't making a profit at such a cheap price - - but some good ones out there you can still find near mint, at least in UK. Best by far is on ALfred Hitchcock. Another is on Bob Dylan. Quite a few more.

Hey Brian. Happy you guys are feeling better!😊 I have the 2 album version. Baby blue colored if that's what it's called.I bought it used on Amazon a few months ago. I'm listening to it now. No booklet no poster no postcards nada. It sounds fine.

I’m glad you’re alright now. Thanks for the video. I have the double disc version and I thought about getting this. Now I’ll give it a pass

I have read about that skipping issue with “Instant Karma” ever so often but the only time I have experienced that with a copy has been when it was played on a system with an “okayish” elliptical stylus and a tone arm of the same sort. However, same copy played with a line contact stylus and a tone arm which completely fits the cartridge, and everything worked perfectly (except for some very minor clicks and pops). Maybe that helps.

Get the cd/blu ray set. The Blu-Ray is in 5..1 it sounds amazing! It also has a very groovy hard cover book.

Thank you for your honest opinion. 😃 However, I had no problems with the LPs - I guess I was just lucky! You mentioned Revolver: I was completely out of luck there: I had 3 copies until I now have one where I can live with it (apart from minor errors)...
Like you, I was bothered by the lack of information in contrast to the deluxe CD set, which included a great book. So if you wanted the book, you also had to buy the CD box. That's all for the sake of calculation, of course. After all, they want to make money. But they are screwing us customers very badly. Especially when the LPs are practically throwaways and you have to exchange the whole product...
Hadn't you thought of exchanging the box or returning it altogether? Even 40 bucks is a lot of money in the end! Or is it not possible because it was a special offer? I think the record companies need to have as many returns as possible to really see what kind of crap they're having produced.
When you consider the enormous amount of work and incredible effort that went into these projects, and the cheap, lousy way in which the LPs have then been produced and sold - what can you say? GZ Media screwed it up. Many are totally enthusiastic, I'm not.

Great video. First time I heard that about the run out groove on Pepper and why it wasn't on the US release.

And this is why I always go for CDs. Cheaper, better sound quality.
