- This BMW M3 sat in the desert for 10 years before Jakub saved it and decided it needed a new life! Does it still count as a barn find if you didn't technically find it in a barn?
This is one of our new shop cars that we're going to be transforming over the coming weeks. In this video, we're going to remove all the sand, dust, and dirt this car accumulated over the last 10 years by using Dry Ice Cleaning.
Our Coldjet PCS60 put in some serious work on this one! The before and after shots are incredible!
I love this E46 era of BMW. And it's a manual gearbox, OF COURSE

Why wouldn’t you wash most of that dust off before ice blasting?
Because that would add an unnecessary step.
@@darkness1691 ok. My reasoning is water is less expensive than the blasting media. At least for the dusty under hood areas.
@@jimgerock9190 yes it is, but since they will still blast all surfaces at the same pace, it wouldn't save any media. Some will wash it first to try and get any dirt off that could potentially scratch a surface but you'll just be washing it afterwards anyways.
Less of a visual change, so the video won't get as many views

Have to say, I prefer this ‘good condition, but filthy’ type of content where you really see the difference. Especially on E46 M3s….although that might be a bit too niche to be sustainable.

It really depends. Most of the time, not much, but sometimes we really have to scrub to get the stains or break free some pesky surface grime

To be honest mate that was a mint car to start with and a jetwash would have done pretty much the same thing

Dry ice makes such quick work and with no mess, it's honestly my preference of engine cleaning methods

Dry ice is great, but....looks like it also takes off the protective factory coatings. Do people generally re-apply anything to the underside parts where needed?
As I was looking other videos, it seems they apply some sort of spray wax under the body to re-protect it.
My question is, with the dry ice cleaning technique, where does the dirt go? It has to go somewhere else this is magic

it freezes it and makes it brittle so it can then shoot it away with the pressure as small forzen particles

lol yes. That's why we have a shop specific for dry ice cleaning... and have to clean it literally every single day

How long did it take to clean the engine bay and how much dry ice did you use? Also, which machine are you using? Seems faster than the ones aimed at the detailing industry!
They use a machine called Karcher. Usually they provide a link to their site for their products in their video description.
What were you spraying in the wheel wells?
Its an anti-rust protectant called Waxoyl. Similar to cosmoline but more modern

dude, all that would of came off way faster with a heated pressure washer and would cost you a faction of the coast of a dry ice unit. show me of it removing rust, corrosion and oxidization.

Zee Germans make some gorgeous cars but they can't make a gasket that lasts more than 5 years to save their lives. All of these German beauties you bring back to perfection are slicked with oil underneath. I've had three MB's and an Audi and they all leaked like crazy. Main seals, transmissions, head gaskets - everything leaks.
"If it ain't leakin, it's empty" is words I've lived by ever since owning German or British cars lol

Where does the dirt go?
It gets blasted not the air and lands everywhere the wind carries it. High is usually the floor.
You should edit the clip of the rear end out. Anyone who knows anything about cars can tell that's a solid rear end and the e46 comes with independent rear suspension. That's the wrong vehicle

A car that sat in the desert for 10 years would require a hell of a lot of repairs first. Why wasn’t the repairs done before the dry ice cleaning?

Soap and water would have given a better result.
Personally I’d have steamed the hole car down first to get rid of the majority of the shite then I’ve blasted what was left!👌

1. Step throw some dirt on engine.
2. Take some sort of cleaning device ( sponsor order this today )
3. Clean “ dirty” engine and put it on YT
4. Wow great fantastic etc.

vehicles are meant to be on road and dust.
