Yeah, they sound quite similar, don’t they? Try and listen for the schwa at the beginning, and the ‘nt’ at the end. She pronounces the T quite strongly here.
G'day Karen! Just wanna say your channel is bloody awesome. I'm an EAL teacher and have been looking for online resources to teach Aussie English. Keep up the great work
I have got everything what you said in this whole video but couldn't get anything from that "Australian Accent Video" . For your 2 questions answer what i heard is 1. Twin Cd's 2. Sister 😢 .....whats can i do to improve my listening(Australian Accent).
The Australian accent can be quite difficult to understand if you don’t hear it often. It just takes time and practice, you’ll understand it more easily over time 💪
I'm glad to hear that this video helped you! Let me know if you have examples of what you find confusing, and I will try to talk about them in a future video 😊
I really love your channel. Is it possible we can "watch the show" not just "listening the show"with the black background while you are playing the practice show?
Hi, thanks for your message. I deliberately just have the audio because it’s more challenging this way. So when you do have real-life conversations, they’ll be easier for you to understand 😊
@@MomentswithKT thanks for your reply. I am very grateful. I find it hard to remember it(all key points). We can recall the image and also sound after we close the movie. but we cannot always recall the words from textbook when we close it. hhahaa
Hi, I am a new learner of Aussie accent. I master US accent and wanted to try Aussie accent. And my question is, do Australian pronounce "er" as "a" for ex. 'better' pronounce as 'betta' In the recording, I was curious what cava letta mean, and I found out it is "cover letter" 😂 Is that correct mam?
Yes! 😅 This happens a lot with the R sound at the end of words. I have made a few videos about this, actually. Here is the first one, if you're intrested: ua-cam.com/video/rVDCYqsYCkk/v-deo.html.
@@MomentswithKT thank you so much 🥰 I have watched a lot of your videos and I think your explanation is beyond of ordinary. Clear, pointed and understandable.
Some of what I wrote .. we have got amazing twin CD's she's is my sister.. your name in the covering letter just to clarify have you spoken to Paul at all no But I will continue my fight...because my new boss is an Australian..
Thanks a lot for your amazing videos and explanation. I still find the Australian accent very weird. The fact that they use the vowels totally differently from those of British or American accents irritates me a lot.
Good question, thanks for asking! I’m not sure what Twin Cities is. It could be the name of a project they worked on together or, yes, it could be the name of a company. In hindsight, I should have explained this at the start of the video, like I do with people’s names in some of my other videos. Knowing this isn’t as important as understanding the rest of the conversation, though, so don’t worry about it if you didn’t hear it 😊
I've watched it until 2:14 and this is what I think: 1. Mary is the woman's assistant 2. The man and the woman know each other, but they haven't seen each other in a long time. Maybe they're friends?
@@MomentswithKT Wow thanks for replying to me! I mean to me that accent actually isn't that hard to understand. Is there something I'm missing? Because I understood it perfectly.
I’m glad to hear that this wasn’t hard for you. A lot of English learners find the Australian accent difficult to understand. You might have an ear for accents 👍🏻 I also try and choose things to study where hopefully you can also learn a few new words and/or phrases. My videos are definitely not meant to be tricky or confusing in any way!
@@MomentswithKT I mean part of it might have been that I'm a native English speaker from the United States. And I just thought the Australian accent sounds really cool. But yeah I subscribed to you because your videos are awesome!!!!
They don’t actually tell us what Twin Cities is in this conversation, so it could be the name of a city or the name of the project that she’s working on or maybe the company that she works for. We’re not actually told 🤷♀️
I use to able score 8.5 in listening practice test with British accent as I practiced alot But in main exam i got Australian accent which I was not ready and in result i got 6.5 in listening
I notice that words like meeting in american accent is clearly pronounced like long e sound, british accent is the same, only using T sound at the end while american english D sound at the end. Australian accent in words like meeting sounds weird. Meeting sounds mating like words such as taking. Karen, I hear meeting clearly in your pronunciation but i wanted to deep into more information about this, indeed australian accent is strange. Other examples in words like say or pathways Australians use 'a' while American English is different pronunciation. Great word Australian pronunciation isn’t the same British or American accent.
'She's my assistant.' I heard it she's my sister even with the slow speed :(
Yeah, they sound quite similar, don’t they? Try and listen for the schwa at the beginning, and the ‘nt’ at the end. She pronounces the T quite strongly here.
