People are too harsh on WoG and FoE, the remasters show that there is pretty good games there. It only took a few QoL changes to bring the goodness to the surface. Also, everyone should go play Arzette right now.
finally! these complete, flawless masterpieces get their moment to shine brighter than the golden goddesses! truly, underrated and underappreciated. this is going to be the biggest, bestest bandit vid, ever. mark my words!
Bandit decides to spread his wings to do other things and ends his (usually) solely Zelda content like an absolute mad man. The thought of a blood covered, combat hardened Zelda is scary, yet tantalizing. This should be a thing one day.
I agree with your timeline placement, however I would go a step further and say they are in their own offshoot that I like to call the "Darkened" timeline, resulting from Ganon's minions acquiring enough of Link's blood to revive their dark master. The stories of these three games then lead into the Zelda Animated Series.
All jokes aside, I firmly believe that if the CD-i Zeldas were remade with modern graphics and retooled as a Metroidvania or something similar, I legit think they would be good games. I remember watching Skawo do an LP of Faces of Evil and I noticed some good ideas intertwined into the title, they were just executed atrociously.
@@corruptedplayer I love the fan animations which some UA-cam animators made for a collaboration project in the channel "Zelda CDi Reanimated". Now if only the actual games had that level of animation quality i might have enjoyed them way more.
I feel like these games have had a long enough exposure on YT that they've endeared themselves (at least to me). I would definitely play the remastered versions, they look like fun.
I view the two 2D CD-i zeldas as improved Zelda II's that didn't quite make it out of the oven in time. They had things that should have been good, like beautiful backgrounds, new enemy types, new lands to explore, playable zelda, original music, the second most popular rope and bomb vendor in gaming history, and fully animated voiced cutscenes, but none of it was good enough. If these three games were made by nintendo today with the development time they deserved, they would have been known as masterpieces.
@rtyuik7 I don't know about ropes or bombs, but the most likely candidate for most popular merchant in a game would probably go to the merchant in Resident Evil 4.
@@dogrobot9933 OP's comment says "second most popular rope and bomb vendor"...as in, not just a General Store, but specifically selling explosives and escapes...thats what im asking for (though i will agree with your choice-- i dont even like Resident Evil, never played any games...yet i Still love that old gravelly voice, "WELCOME! ...Stranger!")
It was a bad idea watching this before going to bed. I think I’m going to have nightmares tonight. Thank you very much Mr Bandit. All joking aside I actually enjoyed the video. You did a good job with this one. Hm I wonder… is anyone up for a Zelda cd-I remaster?
@justmeherethereandeverywhere You should take a look at some of the comments in this very video regarding the fun factor of the CD-i games. Also i've also played Rosy Rupeeland and personally didn't enjoy the gameplay either way so good that you managed to enjoy it.
After listening to the plots of the first 2 games, I realized that Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore literally used the exact (almost) same elements from the Zelda CDi games to make a good story opening. Also, the creators of Arzette were the same people who did those two... hilariously bad games. Combining the best elements (including story) of both games into Arzette was a great move.
I couldn't stop watching the video, out of respect for the pain and suffering you endured to make it! It takes courage, strength and wisdom to survive such a trial! Last time I watched a video about these games was a few years back, a French youtuber that makes content about video games made one about the worst Zelda games. And whether it's about the lore, the gameplay, or anything else, these games inflict pain on those who talk about it, it's like a Hero's trial in itself
Thank you for the amazing revelations. Glad to know that the froxes are such a lovely reference to Glutko, about Gaspra, who seems like he could be very interesting with some nice stretches but probably isn't, and that Echoes of Wisdom is just a Wand of Gamelon clone. If she doesn't hold the rod like she holds the wand in the cutscene you showed we riot.

For what it's worth, there IS one detail that could potentially connect Zelda's Adventure to an existing game, and that's the fact that she's wearing her exact same blue dress from ALttP, which suggests to me that ZA may have been intended to take place around THAT game instead (especially since it released years after the other CDI games, just like how ALttP released years after the first two Zelda games, so there's a parallel there). But yeah, the presence of BOTH King Harkinian and the Triforce of Courage in the same game means that the others are 100% after Zelda II.
Crazy theory here: The reason we dont have a zelda game with Zelda as the protagonist is because somehow Phillips have the rights of Zelda as a main character for games

Peebs also said one very important thing about The Faces of Evil, at least: "I'm mad about it!" Granted, that was about something Gwonam said, but I rest my case regardless.
unironically faces of evil and wand of gamelon have my favorite characterizations of the zelda cast. link’s an adorable doofus, while zelda’s more serious, as well as the most capable version of the princess in the franchise. ganon, for as weak as his boss fight is, somehow has far more of an on-screen body count than any canon version of the king of evil, via the boss introduction cutscenes. not to mention king harkinian having the best track record of any other king of hyrule (having been the only one to survive to the end of the game). even the side characters have more personality in their brief cutscenes than most others in the series (morshu especially). also play arzette jewel of faramore
I would love to see a fanon timeline consisting of all the spinoff games and the tv show too, but maybe that couls wait until the movie comes out so it could be there too

These games may be bad, but I feel like they do a good job of presenting Ganon's minions as threats. Goronu is capable of manipulating people by transforming into people they trust. Harlequin is kinda like the Devil in Cuphead, pushing people to gamble and when they inevitably lose, he turns them into monsters that probably obey him and terrorize the island. Militron also turns people into monsters to terrorize the island, but there's no losing to gambling here. He just does it to many people he captures I assule, which gives a merciless and heartless vibe. Lupay also transforms the inhabitants, I don't know what else to say there ^^' But I guess the fact that 3 of the 5 of Ganon's minions are turning the people of Koridai into monsters means that A LOT of people must have been transformed, most of them probably, and I can imagine the remaining inhabitants living hidden, in fear. Sure since this game's... well... this game's everything is bad, this is not shown, but I still think this is interesting. And finally, Glutko literally eats people. He doesn't transform the inhabitants or anything, he straight up kills them by eating them. Who knows how many of them died by the time Link stops him ? The transformed people probably turn back to normal at the end of the game, but the people Glutko are dead forever. He's probably the worst one of them all.

That might have been related to a prophecy where only Link can defeat Ganon when Ganon invades Koridai
Nah these take place in Termina and thus are the ACTUAL REASON why Skull Kid wanted to end it all
