There's no decisions as to which actions to take. You're literally at their mercy because the only way to beat them is either get lucky and have their AI obey its own rules or cheese it with explosives, which shouldn't be the case. Oh, and they can summon those stupid dogs. As if they didn't break apart the flow of combat already, they can blind and stagger you constantly with that thing and if you even take your eyes off the marauder to deal with it, the thing goes full Capra Demon on you.
Totally agree on the Archville not being introduced properly and the Marauder being a massive pain in the ass. I also want to point out that the engine is insanely optimized. I'm playing on a GeForce GTX 760 and I get 30 FPS most of the time (when combat dies down I get mostly 60 FPS), and even "low" settings look super good, much better than it has any right to be on my crappy computer.
It took me quite a while slashing those red demons until I saw the Archeville and though "whats that?" Some introduction would have been useful. I lost way to many extra lives until I figured out what up.
Agree with all your points here i also had a bit of frustration around the marauder at first as he grinded the sense of speed to a halt. Although when you get used to the quick swap between super shotgun and the ballista he just melts in 10 seconds flat if you bait his attacks at a good range so it is possible to minimise this issue with practice.
The only thing about the game that really bugged me was that Trent Reznor's awesome Quake 1 menu theme wasn't available as a collectible. Doom 3's theme song is awesome though, and it's amazing to finally hear it in high quality instead of ~96 kbps mp3. I think marauder would have been fine if they cut his health in half. The problem with him (for me) isn't so much that he derails the game but that he derails it for such a long time as you whittle him down. They *say* he's invulnerable to super weapons but he does take some damage, and BFG tendrils can still lock onto him if the shot passes behind his back.
You can kill him with bfg at point blank range, if he's attacking you, right at the "green eyes" moment. I do it accidentaly, when my shotgun ammo go to zero and autoswitch give me the bfg.
@@themonstergamer5441 All I can say, after four fights with this shielding-dog-calling punchbag of an ass, you'll need to trigger him to ran to you at full speed. After that he almost always do the 360-axe swipe, and that's the moment where you had him. And I still trying to do that again. That accident, btw, I shoot to the legs, almost at the floor under myself. Fast dash after, looking for the Marauder, and he's dissapeared, just some blood around left. I don't believe it, honestly, there's an imp nearby, and I think that it's pieces of him, but no, because right after that moment starts the monologue. It was an Sentinel city, the place at the entrance with stairs. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the level, think it's Taras Nabad. I'm sure you'll get the bastard! Keep slaying, bro!
couldnt agree more, loved everything about the campaign except fighting the marauder and the gladiator which interrupts the flow of combat and feels like youre fighting some sweaty tryhard for honour player or a sekiro boss, thankfully the marauder goes down with 6 ballista shots and the gladiator is a one off thing, even the multiplayer is fun
Hey Jarek! After seeing your review on Ori, I’m more comfortable recommending this, but I think a game you’d enjoy playing/reviewing (if you already haven’t) is Psychonauts! It’s getting a sequel sometime soon, and while it is frustrating every now and then (looking at you Waterloo), it’s characters and soundtrack have such a unique charm to them that I haven’t seen in any other game!
I fully and completely agree with you on the Marauder encounters grinding the game to a massive halt. Even after I found his major weakness to do the time trial fight against one (the ballista), every encounter with one was just annoying.
I got all the upgrades, all the secrets and all the costumes in Fortress of Doom, as well as all the suit upgrades. I now have excessive Sentinel Batteries and Suit Tokens.
TheAkrillion yea I have no idea why they did that. Granted, it’s better to have more stuff than less stuff but I’m just left confused and kept finding myself thinking “what’s the point in collecting this?”
With a 980 Ti, I think it would be better to wait for 3000 series Ampere cards before upgrading. Buying a 2080 Ti now at full price will have a much shorter life than buying a 3080 Ti in six months. I think mid autumn is a fair guess at when ampere comes out. (I have a 1080 Ti and it's pointless even thinking of upgrading to 2080 Ti.) 4:54 Gonna be honest, I nearly feel off my chair when the Doom enemies spoke English. I hate the marauders too. I quit today because I just got to one, and got slapped a few times. Third one we come across if including the ones in in side battles. I was tipped off by a UA-camr that the ballista is the best weapon against marauders, and it works. It confused me though, and I though ballista would not work, because it sad no special weapons. (Without even explaining what special weapons were.) One last thing though. Why does no-one mention the obscene amount of vomit inducing platforming? If you think marauders break up the gameplay, I quit so many times when faced with platforming. Also quit when facing puzzles too. I just want to play Doom with the great weapons and great sets, and not other game types.
I am half way through my first playthrough on the 2nd difficulty. By the 3rd mission I've realized speed/momentum is everything in this game. Speed-based upgrades will make your experience much smoother.
One suggested fix for the Marauder, ditch the shield, have him tankier for compensation, at the same time allowing the time when his eyes flash for the player to deal Critical damage to him instead of the ONLY window when you can damage him.

One way to deal with the Marauder is the remote detonation mod for the rocket launcher, upgraded. detonating to his side when not aiming at him and he wont block. You can make him flinch here and get enough time to let off a ballista or super shotty round. Or more rockets, lol.
All they had to do to make the marauders more dealable is make him take only 3 or 4 super shotgun blasts (and other weapon equivalents) before he dies. It's the fact that he takes like 10 which slows it down even more
The Marauder is neat on paper, but the results are just... "weird". According to some people, they said that there are occasions wherein he doesn't follow his "rules".
you can damage the marauder can also be damaged with indirect explosive damage so if there are enemies around to chainsaw and you don't mind blowing through your amo just spam stickies and rockets around him (also idk why but i was able to stick him directly a lot when he wasn't even attacking idk why)
If there's one nitpick I have, the berserk power up is only in one level and the berserk power up only works on certain levels. Which is annoying as it's the best one.
The only thing I wish is for the ability to use the chainsaw when you go berserk. Since it basically behaves like a glory kill. Only thing I wish to help amp up this game but just the option would we awesome. Seriously the only thing I wish for but it’s definitely a personal request haha
My only issues with this game is the ammo count and the marauders speed. I understood where they were going with him but how can I look for his green eyes to attack when he moves too fast notice it to register to attack.
My advise is to follow the audio cue, I never look to his eyes, I just stare at him with the Alabaster and whenever the sound of the green eyes comes in, I shoot and he falls back. Do it a few more times and he literally implodes, I think it takes 4/5 Alabaster precise shots.
I agree. The ammo shortage went too far, I get that it was to encourage weapon swaps but there was times I was dry on every weapon slot. The chainsaw exists but it's so tempting to save up 3 fuel to instantly kill a big enemy. I think you can have something like 24 shotgun shells with MAX upgrades. Something like 16 without. Marauders are just awful in general. So many comments, the video itself and myself all agree on that. Sometimes you hear about games that cut an enemy for being 'too annoying' and I'm convinced that the Marauder is a cut enemy in other timelines. It can even block hitscan, because the damage block starts before it even plays the shield animation and he does it almost every time you shoot unless he's melee attacking that exact half-second. The Marauder almost feels like they locked a modeller and a programmer in a room seperate to the rest of id software and told them to make an enemy, without letting them know the balance and playstyle of all the other enemies. Then just put them into the final game together. They still have amazing visuals and lore at least.
I had to replace my R9 280x (it shat itself) with a HD 7870 (R9 270x) and it's amazing that Doom Eternal still runs on my system (I have an FX 6300 and 16gb of RAM). I do plan on getting an RX 5700 XT or an 8gb RX 580 as soon as the Coronavirus is over and I can upgrade to Ryzen (R5 1600 or 3600).
There's a bug where some demons spawn and get launched through walls and get stuck somewhere and you can't proceed. It's minor but annoying because you're gonna have to reset the fight. I think it's due to high frame rate but i don't know and also there's screen tearing in some missions too which makes me unfocused real quick and end up dying. I love the game best purchase iv'e made in 2020 but these minor bugs need to be addressed in some way.
I ran Eternal on a GTX 960- All I really had to do was put everything on medium and I always disable motion blur so that wasn't a big issue. Even on old, not even top tier hardware 1080p60fps is achievable. Even on medium the game looks pretty damn good too.
My issue with the marauder is that at least on a regular xbox one, whether or not he gets faltered by the super shotgun blast is really inconsistent. I cannot tell you how many times I was watching as chunks got blasted off of him, and he just finished his attack anyway. And considering that he was the only inconsistent enemy in the game, the game overall is still awesome, but that one black mark felt all that much more annoying.
I think marauder has alot of problems. I hate how there is only one way to fight them, not sure if the super shotgun is the only way to stagger him but it gets old really fast. Also hate how inconsistent the damage phase is. There are times where I hit him perfectly when his eyes light up but he puts his shield up anyways blocking any follow up shots. Or how he only gives you enough time for you to hit him with like one extra shot. Or how he spawns in at the end of what are usually high enemy arenas. Its irritating because after I burn through all my health and ammo the game throws another super heavy demon at me. It just leads me to run around the arena searching for any ammo/health/zombies for resources. It's weird because the marauder boss fight is so much more enjoyable than any encounters you have after.
One of my best experiences so far in this game is getting into The Flow State in the Master Levels. Just flashing through gun after gun, unconsciously slaying the Super Heavies and quick progressing to the next area to repeat the process is absolute Euphoria🔥🔥
I haven't encountered the Marauders yet in the game. Until I actually encounter them, the best reference that I have is through other players playing the game. I have seen a clip of someone absolutely dismantling a Marauder in mere seconds so with enough practice and experience, Marauders should be easier or more manageable to deal with. If there is a way to adjust them a bit to make them less annoying, I say maybe have it where you can use the BFG and Crucible on the Marauders but it doesn't instantly kill them. Instead, Marauders can block them with his shield at the cost of permanently disabling the shield, thus allowing the Marauder to be damaged normally. Again, I haven't encountered them yet myself. This suggestion is just based on watching other players encounter the Marauders.
Ok, so yeah, I finally fought the first Marauder in the game and...it wasn't that bad. Took me like at least 20 seconds to put him down. Super Shotgun to counter when the eyes flash green, Ballista to do more damage while he's stunned. I'm playing on Ultra Violence as well.
Hey jarek, i thought i'd put my little thing in, a weird thing a friend pointed out to me, disabling steam overlay will greatly increase your fps. i have no idea why this is, but i got an RTX 2070, and i was getting 40's - 60's on ultra nightmare, after disabling steam overlay, i kept above 100's and even 200's.
@@kite3278 Right click on the game in your steam library, then click properties, then you should see right there, two check boxes, one saying Use desktop game theatre while Steam VR is active, and Enable the steam overlay while in-game. you would want to un-check that for doom eternal. its such a strange bug to me. I thought the game was either unoptimized or really demanding. but after disabling that, i gained around 50+ fps. but that would vary pending on what you have.
The Marauder just feels like he's in the wrong game and its annoying. I agree that he isn't hard to beat, just use super shotgun or ballista. The problem is he feels like a puzzle piece that doesn't fit because it belongs to a different puzzle. You can fight every other demon and combination of demons on your own terms (excluding some bosses), use any weapon, and kill them in any order. There are better weapons to use on certain demons and better orders to kill them in, but with the Marauder it feels like there's only one way to fight him. You have to fight him on HIS terms, which is very hard if there are other demons in the arena. I think the solution would be to add a skill shot that would disable his shield for a short period of time allowing you to damage him with any weapon at any range and thus allowing you to fight him on YOUR terms.
nice video I think you had the same issue as me whit doom eternal mine crashed forstress of doom when I unseathed the crucible after obtaining it. I did know it was neither cause because I use a VPN or conection lost whit bethesda server. The marauder figths get worse when you have to face him in one of the slayer gates the arena is just small corridors. I think you can damage the marauder whit splash damage from the rocket launcher using the remote detonator mod
Guess I made a good decision to hesitate on getting the game day one launch if Bethesda's service requirement for the game wasn't fully stable enough to probably handle the massive influx that would of been trying to play the game day one. Still not happy they attached that to Eternal because the moment I saw slayer club be in the trailers after the second trailer just made me worried that it was just gonna be another service instead of a game on its own sadly like the trend for games have become now a days.
i have the version that comes with the bethesda launcher. i did use the launcher to download the game it but youi dont even need to have the launcher running to play
@@Lilzycho That doesn't make me feel any better especially when it comes to using Steam which unlike your case requires the Bethesda launcher just to run Eternal like all the other games that have a launcher shackled to them.
Cursed Hawkins you can actually bypass this when you first launch the game when it asks you to log in or create a Bethesda account you instead close the game then turn your steam to offline mode then launch the game again and then it runs fine without need of Bethesda services just you can’t do any online stuff of course

Oh, and they can summon those stupid dogs. As if they didn't break apart the flow of combat already, they can blind and stagger you constantly with that thing and if you even take your eyes off the marauder to deal with it, the thing goes full Capra Demon on you.
Lol I started it on ultra violent the marauder is just something you have to engage when there are no other enemies on the field
I lost way to many extra lives until I figured out what up.
my god I can't believe this was 7 months ago
I still can’t get over the fact that Doom guy in the 90’s games had a pet rabbit. So awesome
Thank you. You described the issue with the Marauder perfectly.
You're not wrong about this game being one of the greatest Fps's of the decade along side some other great titles there Jared.
Greatest of the decade? It’s like, the only one to have come out this decade
Skiivin half life alyx has also come out
titanfall 2
Hanieh Yousefi that wasn’t this decade genius
Hanieh Yousefi also, this game blows titanfall 2 right out of the water.
I still need to finish Doom 2016 :(
Great video jarek I really enjoyed watching you stream this can't wait to see you play doom 64!
Nicely done dude, agree on the marauder! Going to check out that Ori video now
jarek: if you havent played it , i would definitely recommend you to.
my pc: *dont you dare*
Agree with all your points here i also had a bit of frustration around the marauder at first as he grinded the sense of speed to a halt. Although when you get used to the quick swap between super shotgun and the ballista he just melts in 10 seconds flat if you bait his attacks at a good range so it is possible to minimise this issue with practice.
You can earn the weapon masteries faster by save scumming. The achievement counter persists between loading the same save again and again.
Thanks for this analysis you did a great job! Definitely getting this game now!
I know that trance you're referring to. I caught myself not breathing playing this game and taking huge breaths after fights are over.
@@СергейСоболев-х4ч the same happened to Markiplier.... The Devs says its really hard to do.. And I keep trying but I keep failing.
@@СергейСоболев-х4ч thats what I normally do... He's really easy when you learn how to fight him. It only takes me a minute or two on ultra Violence
@@themonstergamer5441 I'm sure you can frag him with bfg. Just don't forget to make a video of it!
couldnt agree more, loved everything about the campaign except fighting the marauder and the gladiator which interrupts the flow of combat and feels like youre fighting some sweaty tryhard for honour player or a sekiro boss, thankfully the marauder goes down with 6 ballista shots and the gladiator is a one off thing, even the multiplayer is fun
If I really had to nitpick, the HUD aesthetic of DOOM 2016 appeals more to me, but the gameplay alone looks phenominal in this release
I fully and completely agree with you on the Marauder encounters grinding the game to a massive halt.
Even after I found his major weakness to do the time trial fight against one (the ballista), every encounter with one was just annoying.
HOLY SHIT the skateboard is a reference to Doomguy in Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 where you can unlock Doomguy in the pc version
@@windebiesteultima3317 I'm guessing it'll be used for DLC stuff, maybe?
TheAkrillion hopefully. Otherwise it’s just a waste.
I just beat this on ultra violence it was just the most badass game I’ve ever played
With a 980 Ti, I think it would be better to wait for 3000 series Ampere cards before upgrading. Buying a 2080 Ti now at full price will have a much shorter life than buying a 3080 Ti in six months. I think mid autumn is a fair guess at when ampere comes out. (I have a 1080 Ti and it's pointless even thinking of upgrading to 2080 Ti.)
4:54 Gonna be honest, I nearly feel off my chair when the Doom enemies spoke English.
(Without even explaining what special weapons were.)
One last thing though.

Thunder Gaming why?
The game not only looks amazing but it's really well optimized. I was able to play it with an AMD R7200... (All min settings, of course)
you can damage the marauder can also be damaged with indirect explosive damage so if there are enemies around to chainsaw and you don't mind blowing through your amo just spam stickies and rockets around him (also idk why but i was able to stick him directly a lot when he wasn't even attacking idk why)
pretty much what I did, but it's not fun and honestly feels almost cheap to me.
The virgin fur vs the chad scalie.
It took me a few hours to get into the combat rhythm but once it clicked I was all in!
This looks like a game that gives you health and armor for almost anything because you are getting shot and hit all the time.
If you listen closely you can hear jarek talking over slayer gates by mick Gordon.
VERSingthegamez the game gives you more than enough chainsaw fuel to counteract this, and there is an audio cue when its eyes turn green.
And the Doom Slayer shall bring about a new age: The Reckoning of Lead
I have an answer to quicky kiling the Marauder, BFG + infinite ammo + onslaught = total anihalation
One of my favortie FPS games of all time
I had to replace my R9 280x (it shat itself) with a HD 7870 (R9 270x) and it's amazing that Doom Eternal still runs on my system (I have an FX 6300 and 16gb of RAM).
This game looks fucking gorgeous on the Series X with ray tracing at 60fps
The skateboard is a reference to his inclusion Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2

You can run Doom Eternal without a Bethesda account by switching Steam to Offline mode.
I ran Eternal on a GTX 960-
All I really had to do was put everything on medium and I always disable motion blur so that wasn't a big issue.
Even on old, not even top tier hardware 1080p60fps is achievable. Even on medium the game looks pretty damn good too.
it would be cool if the Marauder's behavior changed the moment you whip out the Crucible. turn it into an honorable fight.
My issue with the marauder is that at least on a regular xbox one, whether or not he gets faltered by the super shotgun blast is really inconsistent. I cannot tell you how many times I was watching as chunks got blasted off of him, and he just finished his attack anyway. And considering that he was the only inconsistent enemy in the game, the game overall is still awesome, but that one black mark felt all that much more annoying.
i read all the info in game, 13h? im at hour 26 at the final boss.
I know now that you can rip and tear anywhere on the Nintendo switch
Specs smecks, it’s all good as long as your enjoying the game.
One of my best experiences so far in this game is getting into The Flow State in the Master Levels.
Just flashing through gun after gun, unconsciously slaying the Super Heavies and quick progressing to the next area to repeat the process is absolute Euphoria🔥🔥
Grappling hook super shotgun Is still the coolest thing ever! 👍
Maruder's problem is that he is a duel enemy which doesn't work in Doom gameplay.
I really want to play this game but I got an i3 6006u laptop without gpu :(
*AND PEOPLE CALLED HIM....*
*....THE DOOM SLAYER*
This game is absolutely the best shooter i have ever played, much better than doom 2016.
Don't anyone tell me I have to be online to play DE on PS4 ....
this game is easily GOTY Nominee

This game is nuts
Hey jarek, i thought i'd put my little thing in, a weird thing a friend pointed out to me, disabling steam overlay will greatly increase your fps. i have no idea why this is, but i got an RTX 2070, and i was getting 40's - 60's on ultra nightmare, after disabling steam overlay, i kept above 100's and even 200's.
how do I go about disabling that
@@kite3278 Right click on the game in your steam library, then click properties, then you should see right there, two check boxes, one saying Use desktop game theatre while Steam VR is active, and Enable the steam overlay while in-game. you would want to un-check that for doom eternal. its such a strange bug to me. I thought the game was either unoptimized or really demanding. but after disabling that, i gained around 50+ fps. but that would vary pending on what you have.
I had like 5 crashes
Use splash damage on the marauder
Rip City!
I watch all your videos ! Keep it up dont worry about the ori vídeo it was great
When he is taking about doom fuking is not a option
How much VRAM does your 980ti? Because with that horsepower you should be able to 1440p/ultra it.

Great vid
nice video I think you had the same issue as me whit doom eternal mine crashed forstress of doom when I unseathed the crucible after obtaining it. I did know it was neither cause because I use a VPN or conection lost whit bethesda server. The marauder figths get worse when you have to face him in one of the slayer gates the arena is just small corridors. I think you can damage the marauder whit splash damage from the rocket launcher using the remote detonator mod
U can kill him with the super weapons...but the timing is extremely low
I've killed him with the BFG with luck
Monty python huh?
Yeah I agree the sword should work on the Marauders he is annoying not hard.
Ballista reminds me impaling weapon from Painkiller,
