Je suis français et j'ai vécu à 800m du stade de Millwall pendant un long moment, (on voit même mon ancien appart dans la vidéo, proche de l'église)
J'allais souvent au stade lors des matchs à domicile, je ne connaissais personne et j'y ai été accueilli à bras ouvert, par des jeunes, des pères de familles et le tout sans la moindre once de racisme. Je suis d'origine algérienne, ma copine est suédoise.
Et quand on racontait qu'on était français avec telle culture ou telle origine, les gens étaient hyper intéressés voir même fiers qu'autant de monde venant d'aussi loin viennent supporter leur club de cœur
Alors certes, c'était pas le meilleur football que j'ai eu l'occasion de voir dans ma vie, mais l'expérience était incroyable
J'y suis également allé au début du mois de février, et j'ai eu la même expérience que toi.
Un club bien sympathique, les gens voulaient m'aider quand j'avais du mal à me repérer dans le stade, c'est comme n'importe quel club. T'as des ultras qui ont une culture ultra et les supporters lambdas qui viennent voir et supporter leur équipe. J'ai même discuté avec un homme assez âgé, sans doute un sexagénaire qui m'a demandé à plusieurs reprises si je passais un bon moment.
Honnêtement, je pense que ce club a effectivement eu sa période "noire" avec le hooliganisme, mais que c'est désormais fini. Hélas, l'image est restée comme ça aux yeux des londonniens et des anglais qui continuent à catégoriser (injustement) le club.
Quelqu'un de raciste ne dira jamais devant toi qu'il est....

Le problème est pas dans le stade ni a ses abords tout a été réglé de ce cote la y’a plus de débordements, ca empeche pas que la culture reste chez de nombreux supporters. Et vos retours d’expériences me font penser que Brown a raison, moi qui suis ultra oméga blanc j’en ai entendu des vertes et des pas mûres comme on dit hein etre blanc barraque avec le crane rasé ca delit les langues ;) Ca aurait ete intéressant qu’il poursuive ensuite son reportage dans des pubs.
Mangeur de grano, tu trainais souvent en bas de chez toi à squatter le pavé passé 23h ?
Tout ça pour dire que mon expérience c’est une faible partie bannie du stade qui dessine des croix gamées, une faible partie de gens cools, et au milieu beaucoup qui disent "oh bon ok les croix gammées c’est pas bien hein mais faut que jeunesse se passe et puis de toute façon ici on est chez nous on est pas mechant mais si les etrangers se comportaient mieux aussi peut-être que ces jeunes (les hool's) feraient moins de conneries".
En tant qu'Anglais qui n'est pas de Londres, je dirai que Millwall n'est pas unique dans son histoire de violence et de racisme, mais il est unique en tant que seul club connu plus pour la violence que pour le succès du football. Leeds, West Ham, Liverpool et Chelsea et bien d'autres étaient tous craints pour leurs fans de hooligans violents, mais ils étaient également célèbres pour leur succès dans le football et ne sont donc pas devenus connus uniquement pour la violence comme Millwall. Désolé pour mon mauvais français.

@@meska1983 Oui mais Wimbledon c'était différent, leurs joueurs étaient des hooligans mais leurs supporters étaient toujours assez agréables donc tout le contraire de Millwall :)

I live right by Millwall, and have taken my autistic son to a few games. On one occasion, he had a meltdown, and I have to say the stewards were absolutely amazing in offering assistance, going so far as to escort us to an internal office, provide water, goodie bag, and words of encouragement as gradually, my son calmed down. Ultimately, we went back and he enjoyed himself, but that not have happened were it not for those fantastic stewards

I went all on my own to the Millwall vs Sheffield united game on saturday and it was one of the best experiences i've had in a football ground in the uk, the people were lovely and the ground was very nice and the atmosphere was amazing certainly after that Bradshaw 89th minute goal, massive respect From a spurs fan
I've never had trouble there. I quite like them.
A lot of the footage you've used from the early 80s is of West Ham fans on a visit to Millwall...always been one of the most violent rivalries but the way the Millwall fans came out in support of a young West Ham girl who was v ill with Cancer gives me hope that whilst the intensity should always remain, perhaps we can reduce if not completely remove the violence on the odd occasions we play. Great video though!

je continue à bingewatcher ton tour des stades et c'est vraiment super quali ! Foot, histoire, fans, culture... tu mélanges tous ces thèmes hyper intéressants et intrinsèques au foot et j'adooore ça . Tu fais ça super bien, continue ! C'est clairement ce que je fais aussi et que j'aimerais faire beaucoup plus : me rendre dans des villes, les visiter et voir des matchs dans les stades de chacune des villes visitées. Et toi tu ajoutes ce travail de journaliste, de prendre la température des fans, des locaux, de ce que tout le monde pense du club de la ville etc... c'est génial !
Je découvre ta chaîne et franchement bravo, tout est intéressant, c'est bien écrit, bien filmé, on sent que tu as de la passion et que tu aime découvrir des clubs ; la vidéo se regarde très vite, tant c'est cool à regarder. Je m'abonne et je vais aller regarder tes autres vidéos. Force à toi pour tout ce travail, les abonnés viendront petit à petit.

En tant que fan de MILLWALL dans sa SEPTIÈME décennie de présence depuis 1962, permettez-moi de dire ceci, d'abord en anglais puis en français, que j'ai étudié à la Grammar School du sud-est de Londres. Ces vieilles scènes hostiles de fans défilant dans les rues et attaquant ce pub n'était PAS des fans de MILLWALL mais des fans de WEST HAM. TOUS ces clichés n'étaient pas, ne le répétez pas, des fans de Millwall. Même les images de la police qui l'accompagnent à l'époque le disent clairement. La VRAIE hostilité était dans The OLD DEN que nous avons quitté en 1983 et qui était situé à seulement 1/2 mile ou 1 kilomètre par cet ancien tunnel. J'ai visité 84 terrains éloignés du nord le plus élevé à l'ouest pour suivre les Lions de MILLWALL, mes amis..😀

Great video, I went to the den last year vs Blackpool and stood in the dockers stand. I was apprehensive as I have a strong northern accent and they were playing a northern team, even tho I was supporting millwall on the day as it was a ground hop. So long as you keep your head down and get behind the team you'll be welcomed with open arms
Just came across this, as a Canadian who understands limited quebecois french I was able to understand some of this, yet despite the language barrier this was still excellently filmed and put together. Your emotions and words were conveyed brilliantly. Will be back for more!

Went there last season with West Brom, got the train down, there was trouble on the train platform but was a great day, beers in London Bridge before the game then down to south Bermondsey. It’s a good old traditional away day
The police have pretty much eliminated hooliganism in England and that includes at Millwall. They really are not that bad at all these days, although there still a small amount hooliganism that still remains (mainly when they play away from home).

Ta vidéo m'a rappelé un souvenir lors d'un mach à Upton Park, j'étais dans la tribune des fans des hammers et là j'ai ressenti une hostilité dans les regards exactement comme sur ta vidèo. Je suis resté jusqu'à la fin du match mais il faut bien l'avouer, un peu traumatisé . En tous cas bravo pour ton courage d'avoir choisi the DEN pour ton reportage. C'est décalé est beaucoup plus personnel qu' à Chelsea, Arsenal etc..... Ton côté Foot populaire / social peut être intéressé par des clubs en Espagne ( Betis, Ossasuna..)

@@allionseatfirst9721 Yes, of course. I MOVED from near Millwall just 11 miles away in 1983 and yes, Millwall moved in 1993 as I only missed 6 home games from my first game in 1962.
also re the Luton town v Millwall video that people insist on showing. No action was taken against millwall as it was almost the only match that night in the London area and the police identified most on the pitch as KNOWN hooligans from various other London clubs.

I am not a Millwall fan, but in April 2022, I went on my own to The Den to see Millwall Vs Peterborough, just to see a new stadium and experience the Millwall atmosphere. I arrived in east London quite early, so I had quite a few beers before, and ended up a bit tipsy during the game. I even stumbled into a couple Millwall lads in the stadium, I just said sorry and we carried on. I had no ‘problems’ at all, being a very obvious outsider on his own, with my very non - London accent, and it turned out to be one of, if not my favourite game I’ve ever been to, great fun!
OffTheGrid, I am a Millwall fan and first went to the old Den at 2 years old, I’m almost 75 years old now. Can I just say, without malice, that Millwall is not in east London but in south-east London! However the club was sited on the Isle of Dogs in east London for some years in the early days. I was brought up just 200 metres or so from the ground (at the far end of Cold Blow Lane railway arches) and even worked at the ground as a kid, you may remember the stalls set up as you enter the ground with chocolates and ice creams. My two uncles ran the stalls and once the game started we used to move among the crowd with trays of chocolate and choc ices, we used to call out ‘Choc ice ‘n’ Cadburys’, in those days there was no ‘trouble’! Strangely,I now live in Peterborough very close to their ground.
I went to the old den in September 74 they played Man United in the old division 2 United won 1-0 with a dodgy penalty (some things never change) but that was all they won it was a real old fashioned good kicking from a proper firm the only mystery remains Millwalls no show at old Trafford earlier in the season

on a été voir milwall-luton town il y a 20 ans et on est allé boire un verre dans un cafe après... c'était le café du noyau dur de Milwall et on l'ignorait, le fait d"etre Belge nous a sauvé la vie au dire du patron du bar, on etait les 1er etrangé à être rentré dans le café.
On a passé une soirée mémorable...

I have lots of friends and family who are Millwall, which is fun because I support West Ham and we love each other. As intimidated as you may have felt that day, it would have been 1000x worse at their old ground down the road, which was three sides terracing with fencing and barbed wire everywhere. It was a real mad place to go as an away fan, for West Ham there were far too many police around to allow both sets of supporters to greet each other, but I imagine for supporters from smaller clubs with less police around going there would have been absolutely terrifying. I went there for the 1988 game (where you showed footage of West Ham fans smashing up an empty pub with no police escort) and it was a wild old affair. Having said that I once went with my Millwall mates to Coventry's old ground at Highfield Road for a Friday night game, and bless them, they made sure everyone around me knew who I supported, but we had a good natured evening and everyone was actually pretty decent towards me.

I met a couple of Millwall fans in Leeds last year, they were staying in the area because they were playing Sheffield away and I had a lot of banter with them, even joking that they are the bad guys and they laughed with me and we all sat at a table together and it was wicked, they were really nice lads

Asking Arsenal and Chelsea fans of their opinion on Millwall is a bit of a stretch. Millwall have played neither team for almost 30 years and times have changed. Those you interviewed likely weren’t born at the time!

Incroyable vidéo, j’y suis allée 3 fois une fois en février et deux fois en mars et j’étais vraiment divisé entre le fait que c’est oui un club à part qui est sectaire et ça j’aime bien mais y’a aussi le fait qu’ils ont une partie holigans qui rigole pas du tout et qui est fait peur et ça c’est compliqué. Je suis fan de sainte et je connais bien la culture ultra mais là bas j’ai vu des supporter à peine majeur avec des barres en fer pour se battre à la fin du match contre West brom et autant vous dire que ça fait tout bizarre, honnêtement c’est assez hostile à certains moments mais bon c’est assez cool à vivre. C’est un club pas comme les autres et tu l’as parfaitement retransmis dans ta vidéo félicitation !
Je suis aussi supporter stéphanois et j’aimerai bien découvrir des clubs avec le même ADN/esprit à l’étranger
