I have read all your details above and have re-watched segments multiple times. Maybe it is my bad eyes but the 4K Ultra appears the best of all by a VERY BIG difference. You posted that horizon leveling is not available in 4K modes but is stabilization (aka anti-shake in Studio) available? I have a couple of RS1 one inch, but they do not have single lens mode, so I have been looking at the X3 and your video has given me hope. Your X3 4k Ultra looks better than some of my RS1 One Inch, but how does it handle motion? Thanks (subscribing now).
Confession - I had completely forgotten that I had posted this video! So I had to rewatch it (well, bits) and re-read my description. I agree that the 4K Ultra mode looks pretty good in comparison with the rest (so long as there was nothing in my test, eg changing light, which skewed the results). However, I think the X3 single lens modes only make sense if your requirement is for a 360 camera that also does single lens. If you simply want 4K from a single lens, then there are many action cameras from DJI and GoPro (and perhaps others) which might well do a better job. As for stability in 4K mode, to be honest I don't think I have tested that - and right now here in Australia it's dark! I may be able to do a fairly crude test tomorrow and upload a short walking video, and link to it from here. I'll compare 4K Ultra, 2.7K ultra, and maybe the DJI Action 2 in 4K and 2.7K. Kind of depends on the weather!
@@Ozpeter Thanks, yes I prefer the 360's (have too many, but not an X3 yet). For example when I use mowers/tractors the 360's are the most stable cams I have. When I also use a GoPro on a chesty or helmet it does not match the much better 360 RS1 stabilization (plus the Insta360 has much higher shutter speed options, etc.), I just need a little more resolution and your 4K Ultra setting test looked great, so I would love to see how it performs with action/movement. I also have an X2 but it is not as good the Insta360 RS1 One-inch 360 (what a confusing name, and I probably have it wrong).
@@Ozpeter Hey Ozpeter fellow Aussie here was wondering which would you recommend the gopro hero 11 or this x3 i want a good camera for doing vlogs or single lens stuff but want something reliable as well.
@@silverpro8356 This camera is only worth buying if you want a 360 camera, producing finished footage at 1080p at best. It can double as a single lens camera with higher resolution than that, but in that mode it doesn't out-perform the Hero 11, and it's radically more fragile. I hope that helps!
Thank you for this, it is EXACTLY the kind of explanation I have been looking for prior to deciding to buy this camera…
Bingo! You answered exactly what I was looking for. New X3 on Sep 1st. Thanks from John in London Canada.
I would say the single-lens mode in 4K is looking much better than reframed 360 crop. In 2.7K the difference is minimal. Thanks for direct comparison.

@@_Oregon_Sunday_Drives_360 Weather unfriendly but I still plan a further test as soon as I can...
Interesting side by side comparison. Can you do the same during night time/low light ?
Maybe... I have a bit of a video backlog at the moment, but watch this space!
Thanks for direct comparison !
Specifically need to shoot 4K without the spherical look so this has just shown me that it is possible..
There is talk of a Pocket 3 being announced next month, that might give me something to dribble about!
6 months later, no news... !
